Tottenham are looking to bring in a proven goalscorer this summer as they look to compete for both domestic and continental trophies.

Tottenham have been holding talks with Bournemouth regarding the signing of English forward Dominic Solanke as Ange Postecoglou looks for a proven Premier League striker to sharpen his side, LondonWorld has been told. Solanke has taken his career to the next level and bagged 19 league goals last season.

According to a report in The Sun, Spurs are aware that the 26-year-old has a release clause of £65 million, but they are hoping they can strike a deal that lowers the price and bring him to north London before the transfer window closes later this month.

The Tottenham interest has been so strong that when the striker missed the pre-season game against Rayo Vallecano this week, manager Andoni Iraola had to clear the air on why his lead striker was not called up for the game.

The Bournemouth manager told the Daily Echo when asked about the whereabouts of Solanke this week: “It was a stomp from Zaba. It is not a big injury, it is nothing big. But it was the big toe, a stamp.

“He came today, we checked him, and in the end, it didn’t make any sense to take risks. He will be fine. He will play against Girona.”

When asked about the latest Spurs interest, he added: “I don’t have any other news. For me, it is the same situation. I always give you the same answer, because for me, it is the same situation. Until the market closes, this is how it is, not only for Dominic Solanke but other players too.

“I don’t know how we are going to finish. But today I can tell you, because I saw it live, it is something that happened in training. It is not going to be anything big. It was just a matter of he couldn’t even put his boots on comfortably. For a friendly, it didn’t make sense to take that decision.”

Tottenham finished fifth last season, missing out on Champions League football to Aston Villa, who punched above their weight to reach the semifinal of the Europa Conference League and secure a top-four finish.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is hoping that his team can learn from both the positives of a strong start that saw them win eight of their first 10 games of the season, but eventually being unable to sustain the momentum and finishing outside the top four.

They have already strengthened by adding Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall, a central midfielder who was signed in January but joined the team this summer.
