The half-time whistle has sounded in Germany, signalling the end of the opening forty-five minutes in the Europa League clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur – and it’s now time for our first-half player ratings.
After a poor showing on Sunday afternoon against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur are back in Europa League action for their crucial second-leg quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ange Postecoglou and his players would be hoping to secure a victory at the Deutsche Bank Park Stadium, as a win would keep their hopes of ending Spurs’ 17-year-long trophy drought alive.
Throughout the first half, we analysed each player’s individual performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s take a look at our Tottenham player ratings…
Tottenham’s first-half player ratings vs Frankfurt
Guglielmo Vicario: Much better this time from Vicario, who has kept it neat and tidy with his passing – he’s not taking any risks and that is much better than Sunday. He hasn’t been called into any serious action just yet. 6.
Pedro Porro: It’s clear that Tottenham are picking their moments in this game. Porro is very conservative and is barely making overlapping runs; instead, he’s inverting into midfield. He’s been solid defensively and has looked to play long balls from deep – none of which have come off just yet. 6.
Cristian Romero: Romero has tried to play those telling balls from deep, aiming to start attacks and be more direct – it’s positive play from the Argentine. No mistakes so far, a welcome bonus. 6.

Micky van de Ven: We’ve already seen why he’s such a big part of this Tottenham team – his recovery pace prevented Hugo Ekitike from going through on goal. He’s also been solid when dealing with crosses from Frankfurt. He’s made a difference in defence. 7.
Destiny Udogie: A few overlapping runs from Udogie, and he did have one moment where he was released and allowed to get forward – his cutback, though, didn’t find anyone in the box. 6.
Lucas Bergvall: The midfield is where the game is going to be won, and that battle is an interesting one. So far, it’s been 50/50, and Bergvall is a big part of Tottenham’s engine room. 6.
Rodrigo Bentancur: Bentancur has been quiet but very solid. He’s had to cover for Udogie a few times when the full-back has been caught out of position. The Uruguayan has also been tidy with the ball at his feet, playing passes that keeps the team ticking. 7.5.
James Maddison: At times, he seemed anonymous in this game. However, the few times he had the ball at his feet, he tried to make things happen, and his clever run into the box saw him win a penalty late in the first half. The penalty did come at a cost, as Maddison had to be subbed off after a collision with the Frankfurt goalkeeper. 7.
Brennan Johnson: In that opening forty-five, we saw flashes of Johnson’s pace as he carried the ball from deep and delivered a cutback that found Tel – but the young wide man scuffed his effort. 5.
Dominic Solanke: No goals yet, but there’s loads of desire and energy in his game tonight. He’s going for every ball and pressing with intent. He finally got his goal from the penalty spot. 7.5.
