Tottenham Hotspur have the chance to bring in some more players this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. According to a report by Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ange Postecoglou's side have identified the La Liga man as a potential addition this summer.

However, they aren't the only team to be credited with an interest in the player. Rival Arsenal are also said to be keen on luring him over to the Premier League in this transfer window, whilst Real Madrid are also believed to be eyeing a potential swoop, so there appears to be a lot of competition for his signature.

Spurs could see Garcia as someone to bolster their goalkeeping department. Guglielmo Vicario made the number one spot his own at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the last campaign after arriving last summer from Empoli in Italy.

The London outfit are being patient with their recruitment as they wait for the right targets to become available. Timo Werner has joined on a permanent basis from RB Leipzig following his loan in the last campaign, whilst highly-rated prospect Archie Gray has also been snapped up from Leeds United in the Championship.

Postecoglou has shared this update regarding transfers: “At this time of year it’s pretty hard for supporters because they don’t have all the information and it’s fair to say there’s plenty of misinformation out there.

“We’re working hard to bring players in and it’s a process that you sometimes have to be patient with. But in terms of what we set out to do, that’s still the plan and you have to stay disciplined with that. Sometimes the timings don’t work out and it doesn’t happen as quickly as you want and you don’t get them (players) in at the right time but I think it’s really important you stay disciplined and not run off and chase other things.

“So, what we started with at the start of summer are still there, and I wouldn’t want to put timelines on it. A lot of that is out of our control and we just need to be patient. From where I sit at the moment we’re still in that phase where what we identified is still what we’re after.”

Reported Spurs target Garcia has been on the books at Espanyol since joining them as a youngster from local side Damm. He has since risen up through the academy ranks of his current club and was a regular for them at various different levels.

The Spain youth international, who is 22-years-old, broke into their first-team in 2021 and has since become one of their most prized assets. They will now face a real battle to keep hold of him down the line amid attention from other teams.

Garcia remains under contract for another few years so Espanyol are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer to come in for his services before they consider selling. They were promoted to La Liga from the second tier last term.
