Atletico Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder and Tottenham target Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham could now miss out on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with Spanish side Atletico Madrid improving their bid and pursuit of the England midfielder. LondonWorld has been told Gallagher is set to return to Cobham next week for pre-season after helping England reach the final of the Euro 2024 in Germany.

His future, though, is far from settled, with Chelsea willing to listen to offers for him but determined to get the right fee. The BBC is reporting that Gallagher is yet to agree on personal terms with the Spanish club, but talks have accelerated in the last 24 hours.

LondonWorld sources say Atletico Madrid are looking to seal a deal in the region of £34 million for the midfielder, who missed only one league game for Chelsea last season. The fee is still less than the £50 million valuation Chelsea placed on him but is an improvement on the lowball bid they initially made when talks started.

Gallagher has just one year left on his current deal, and sources say he is desperate to leave and will sit tight knowing he can begin to talk to teams in six months. London clubs Tottenham and West Ham both showed interest in him last summer, but there has been little indication of a potential move to a Premier League club this year.

Enzo Maresca was asked about Gallagher's future before a match against Club America in Atlanta, United States, and he admitted everything was still possible as talks continue. He told reporters in the U.S: "The transfer window is open, so unfortunately something can happen, not only with Conor but all the players."

Chelsea are still without a win in their first two games of the pre-season after drawing with Wrexham and being beaten by Celtic.
