Tottenham Hotspur could look to appoint a new manager at the end of the season, and Andoni Iraola has been suggested as the ideal choice.

It has been a disappointing season for them and they are 16th in the league table. Postecoglou was backed significantly during the summer transfer window, and he was expected to guide them to Champions League qualification. Tottenham were expected to fight for domestic trophies as well.

Things have clearly not gone according to plan, and the Australian could be shown the door in the summer. Spurs have been linked with multiple names in recent weeks, and former defender Alan Hutton believes that Andoni Iraola could be the ideal appointment for the north London club.

Andoni Iraola has proven himself in England

The Spaniard has done quite well for Bournemouth, and there is no doubt that he has the qualities to manage a bigger club. Hutton believes that Tottenham need a manager with a more balanced approach. Iraola plays an attacking system with aggressive pressing, but his team is quite strong defensively. On the other hand, Postecoglou has been overly aggressive with his system, and it has cost Tottenham defensively.

Hutton said to Football Insider: “I like Iraola, I think what he’s done at Bournemouth has been exceptional, how he sees the game, how he wants to play, openly expansive at times but defensively very strong. They look to win the ball back quickly, be aggressive with their pressing.

“I think all those things suit a Tottenham team, and look, that’s the way Ange wants to play as well. It just happens that from time-to-time that they’re open.

“They play with a high line that goes two for two at the back, and you’re reliant on Van de Ven’s pace or Romero or whatever it may be, but when you’re playing at this top level, you get punished when you make mistakes.”

The opportunity to manage a club like Tottenham will be quite exciting for Iraola, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can get the deal done. They need to bring in a quality manager in the summer if they want to bounce back next year. Tottenham have a quality squad at their disposal, and the right manager might be able to bring out the best in them.
