The person left most upset - in one aspect - after James Maddison's man of the match display for Tottenham against Brentford was his own mother.

The 27-year-old was in top form on Saturday with a dominant performance which not only brought the final goal of the 3-1 victory but also a strong involvement in both of Spurs' first two goals and everything good the team did. However, in celebrating his late goal in the game he also managed to upset his mother ever so slightly when he whipped his top off and threw it in the air, earning a yellow card from the referee in the aftermath.

"I don't know why I took my top off," admitted Maddison in his club interview after his first goal of the new season. "My mum just texted me and said, 'Keep your top on next time because I’ve got you in my fantasy team and I got minus one for the yellow card' - so sorry, mum."

Maddison was in fine form throughout the game which also brought goals for Dominic Solanke, his first for the club, and Brennan Johnson - his second in four days.

In the latest episode of their podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, our Tottenham correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discussed all of the above and everything to do with the match on Saturday as well as looking ahead to Thursday night's Europa League match against Qarabag.
