Tottenham are another club expected to be busy. Spurs have already signed Kevin Danso on loan from Lens but reportedly remain on the lookout for a new attacking player to join Ange Postecoglou’s squad. Southampton’s Tyler Dibling is said to be a big target on that front.
Arsenal are also being tipped with a move to sign a new forward, having seen a bid rejected for Villa star Ollie Watkins. Sadly for the Gunners, the England forward came off injured against Wolves. Follow all the action LIVE with Standard Sport’s transfer blog!

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that it’s a permanent deal for Tottenham, who will be paying €25m (£20.8m) for the Austrian international.
Danso is said to have agreed a five-and-a-half year contract in north London and already completed a medical.

Injury-hit Spurs travel to west London looking to stop their slide down the table
Os head coach insists he does not want to jeopardise third-tier London club’s strong relationship with Tottenham
Apology: Richie Wellens aimed a dig at Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou after Leyton Orient lost to Stockport
Getty Images
George Flood1 minute ago
Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens has apologised for a “stupid comment” made about Tottenham counterpart Ange Postecoglou.
The Os boss caused controversy following his side’s 1-0 home defeat by Stockport in League One on Saturday with his response to a question about how much the loss was influenced by injuries to the likes of defenders Sean Clare and Omar Beckles.
“I’m not Ange Postecoglou, keep using it as an excuse,” Wellens said in a post-match interview, referencing Spurs’ ongoing injury crisis that has been a significant factor in their woeful recent Premier League form that has left them 16th in the table and only seven points above the relegation zone ahead of Sunday’s trip to Brentford, piling the pressure on Postecoglou.
The comment did not go down well at all with Tottenham fans on social media, with the two clubs typically sharing a strong relationship and Orient having loaned a number of players from Spurs over the years - most notably England captain Harry Kane back in 2011.
Indeed, two of the club’s current first-team squad - goalkeeper Josh Keeley and forward Jamie Donley - are both currently on season-long loans at Brisbane Road from Tottenham.
Orient released a statement late on Saturday night in which a regretful Wellens retracted his dig at Postecoglou and apologised, insisting he did not want to do anything to jeopardise the relationship between the clubs.
“After today’s game, I was asked about the injuries within our squad and, without thinking, I made a stupid comment about Tottenham Hotspur,” said Wellens.
“That comment was brought to my attention later in the evening and having watched my interview back I am deeply embarrassed and regret what I said.
“At Leyton Orient, we have a strong relationship with Tottenham Hotspur and it was never my intention to say anything that would jeopardise that.
“Their manager, Ange Postecoglou, is a world-class coach and I want to apologise for my comments and wish Spurs all the very best for the second half of the season.”
Wellens is a former midfielder who began his career at Manchester United and also played for the likes of Blackpool, Oldham, Doncaster, Leicester, Shrewsbury, Salford and Macclesfield, before retiring and managing Oldham, Swindon, Salford and Doncaster.
He has been in charge at Orient since succeeding Kenny Jackett in March 2022, leading the team to the League Two title and a first return to the third tier of English football for eight years in the 2022-23 campaign.
Wellens led his side to a mid-table finish last season and currently has them inside the play-off positions on goal difference despite the loss to fellow top-six hopefuls Stockport that ended a nine-game unbeaten run. Orient host Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup next weekend.

Transfer news – LIVE!
The January transfer window is set to close in just a few days’ time but the drama continues right up until the deadline. Arsenal are keen to sign a new striker but have seen a bid rejected for Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins, though there could still be hope when it comes to signing him. Indeed, reports now suggest that personal terms won’t be an issue for the England international, meaning they just need to agree a fee with the Midlands giants – albeit that will be easier said than done.
Manchester United are also expected to be busy. Patrick Dorgu from Leece is understood to be closing in on a move, while they reportedly retain an interest in Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich. There are now claims Ruben Amorim is looking to bring Sporting winger Geovany Quenda to Old Trafford.

Ollie Watkins is seemingly Arsenal’s major transfer target during what remains of the January transfer window.

Tottenham fail in Alejandro Garnacho loan enquiry
Tottenham have failed in an enquiry over taking Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho on loan.
According to the Mail, United are not interested in loaning out the player to a rival but would consider bids of around £60million.
Chelsea and Napoli are also interested.
Spurs hold a long-standing interest in Garnacho, but it remains to be seen if the player is similarly inclined.

Postecoglou sends message to Spurs transfer targets
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou says any prospective signings who need the "hard sell" to join the club are "not right" for Spurs this month.
Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel is reported to have turned down Spurs after the clubs agreed a £50million fee for the 19-year-old forward, while they are also exploring available centre-backs ahead of Monday's deadline after Radu Dragusin suffered a knee injury against Elfsborg.
Johan Lange, Spurs' technical director, flew to Munich this week to discuss a move with Tel's camp but the Frenchman is thought to be considering other options.
Postecoglou has consistently said he only wants new signings who are enthusiastic about the club's potential and, asked about the challenge of convincing players to join given Spurs' league position, he said: "It depends what the players are looking for.
Postecoglou said: "It’s still a big club, it’s still a club that can challenge for honours and it’s whether the player sees the potential that we see right now, or certainly that I see. If it’s too much of a hard sell it’s probably not the right one for us."

Bees looking to sting Spurs in the Premier League
Two suspects are appearing in court over the murder of a man shot dead near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London.
Talip Guzel, 33, was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds at an address on White Hart Lane just after 11.30pm on July 30, 2023.
Jan Mercan, 23, of Rushey Hill, Winchmore Hill, was first arrested in August of that year.
He was charged on Thursday with murdering Mr Guzel and possession of a prohibited weapon, namely a Sig Sauer P75 semi-automatic pistol.
Stanislava Kukusheva, 35, of Compton Crescent, Tottenham, is accused of perverting the course of justice and the same gun charge.
According to court records, Kukusheva is also charged with assisting an offender by “transferring money to [a third suspect} knowing he had left the jurisdiction, with intent to impede [his] apprehension or prosecution”.
Both will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday, the Metropolitan Police said.
Police arrived at the junction with Pretoria Road to find Mr Guzel with multiple bullet wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died a short time later.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams said at the time: “Talip’s family has been left devastated, and they need to know what happened.”
Dejan Kulusevski believes Dane Scarlett can be important for depleted Tottenham in the second half of the season after the striker was one of three academy graduates to score in Thursday's win over IF Elfsborg in the Europa League.
Scarlett, 20, broke the deadlock with his first Spurs goal - a fine header from Kulusevski's cross - minutes after coming off the bench and then set up fellow youngster Damola Ajayi, 19, for the second goal. Mikey Moore, 17, also scored in stoppage time, as Ange Postecoglou's side booked their place in the last 16 with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Scarlett was recalled early from a spell at Oxford earlier this month, with Spurs initially hopeful of finding him a new loan, but he will now remain in north London for the remainder of the season as players cannot feature for more than two clubs in a single campaign.
"We had a look at his situation," Postecoglou explained. "He has had a couple of disappointing loans. Sending him out again without any sort of real prospect of him developing, we just felt let’s keep him training with us and give him an opportunity to train with us and play with us and see how it goes."
Kulusevski is convinced that Scarlett can make an impact for Spurs, who are currently missing Dominic Solanke to a knee injury, and says the young players have added energy to Postecoglou's stretched squad.
"They have to [listen] as young players, but the important thing is they come and give everything they can," said the Swede. "They changed the game and I love Dane Scarlett a lot. I think he is a great player and I believe he will help us these months.
"It was a great goal so I’m very happy for him. Also the other players that scored, they have to give the energy now. We have a lot of injuries and they did an amazing job."
Scarlett made his Spurs debut as a 16-year-old in November 2020, with then-manager Jose Mourinho tipping him for the top. But his progress has stalled amid underwhelming loan spells at Portsmouth, Ipswich and Oxford in each of the last three seasons.
"I've been waiting for so long for that one chance to fall for me and today it came," Scarlett said. "It's just the start really, I just want to kick on and keep doing it. Tonight I just wanted to get on the pitch in a Spurs shirt again and play.
"I knew as soon as Deki [Kulusevski] got the ball, it could come in the box because pre-season I scored one of them as well where he crossed it. So I just attacked it and thankfully it came straight onto my head.
"It was surreal, really. It happened so fast. It was just a good feeling that went through my body and I want plenty more of them.
"I really enjoyed my loan. I got some games, I would've wanted to get more but I feel like I gained a lot of experience from that loan and I've played a different style of football. I think it will help when I'm involved here. I'm just grateful for the opportunity. I've been waiting a long time to get a chance."
Kulusevski, who was one of the players introduced, is hopeful that a fresher Spurs can now address their alarming Premier League slump at Brentford on Sunday.
"We have to climb the ladder and we have a great chance on Sunday," he said. "A couple of players rested like me. I only played 45, Sonny only played 45, Micky is back and played 45. I think we’re going to be more fresh and ready to win that game.”

Celtic eye Malacia after Arsenal block early Tierney exit
It looks like Kieran Tierney won’t be leaving Arsenal quite yet.
Celtic are believed to have agreed a pre-contract for their former star to return to Glasgow on a free transfer when his current Gunners deal expires in the summer.
There were hopes that the reigning Scottish champions might be able to bring that move forward to January by taking Tierney on loan for the remainder of the season, but The Telegraph report that Arsenal have now blocked that possibility.
It is said that Celtic could look at Tyrell Malacia as a potential loan option now instead as Manchester United close in on the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

So how will Chelsea afford that rumoured bid for Alejandro Garnacho?
Chelsea look to be having a slight issue with offloading some of their unwanted players this month, with exits not quite yet agreed for the likes of Cesare Casadei.
According to TEAMtalk, the Blues could help finance a blockbuster move for Garnacho by offloading Christopher Nkunku.
Manchester United have held an interest in the Frenchman in this window and were said to have made a loan approach following rumours over a swap deal, but it seems now that Bayern Munich could revive their interest when they agree the exit of compatriot Mathys Tel.
The report also states that Chelsea remain interested in Garnacho’s Old Trafford team-mate Kobbie Mainoo ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

All three clubs are believed to have made their respective pitches to Nypan and his camp last weekend, with a decision now expected imminently.
According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal will learn by Sunday if they have been chosen by one of Europe’s highest-rated young players in what would be a huge transfer coup.

Man Utd want to hijack Tottenham deal for Mathys Tel
Along with Ollie Watkins, Mathys Tel remains the other big name in transfer dispatches as the deadline gets ever closer.
The teenage French forward has decided to leave Bayern Munich this month in search of more regular football and appears to have interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Aston Villa.
L’Equipe report that Spurs have won the race for Tel with a £50m agreement, though Sky Germany claim that, despite Tottenham’s progress, United remain active in the race and are considering a loan offer after holding fresh talks with the player’s agent.

Arsenal handed new Ollie Watkins boost
Arsenal look to have been handed a new boost in the race for Ollie Watkins.
The Gunners are pushing to sign a new striker in the final days of the January transfer window and saw an opening bid worth in the region of £60m rejected by Aston Villa on Wednesday.
But reports suggest that Arsenal are plotting a second approach for Watkins, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan and has previously spoken of his dream to play for the club.
Indeed, the Daily Mail now report that the former Brentford star is open to a late switch to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal weigh up a new offer, but the chances of pulling off any deal are tough with Villa about to sell fellow striker Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

MORE ABOUT
First Tottenham goals for academy graduates Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore clinched a 3-0 win over Elfsborg and secured the club's passage into the last 16 of the Europa League.
Spurs knew a point would likely secure a top-eight berth and help them avoid next month's play-off phase, but Ange Postecoglou watched two unlikely figures come off the bench and earn a precious three points.
Scarlett only returned to the club earlier this month from a mixed loan spell at Oxford but scored four minutes after his second-half introduction with a superb header for his first Tottenham goal on his 18th appearance.
Ajayi, a regular for the Under-21s, followed it up with a superb second six minutes from time before Moore grabbed a brilliant third in stoppage time to help Spurs claim fourth spot in the league phase.
It was not a completely positive night for Postecoglou, however, as while Micky van de Ven's comeback passed by without note, fellow centre-back Radu Dragusin was forced off in the second half.
Postecoglou made three changes from Sunday's dismal 2-1 loss to Leicester, with Van de Ven handed a start on his eagerly-awaited return.
Moore was also drafted into the line-up and tried to make an instant impression with an exciting run down the right, but Son Heung-min failed to apply the finish at the back post.
Son had some joy himself shortly afterwards when he whizzed past Simon Hedlund and was brought down outside the penalty area.
The resulting free-kick came to nothing and Lucas Bergvall was soon the centre of attention after Postecoglou told him to calm down following a couple of sloppy passes.
While Bergvall was overeager to impress against a team from his native Sweden, Son continued to look sharp and set up Pedro Porro, who had a header saved before the Spurs captain got the better of Niklas Hult but Pape Sarr's low effort was blocked by Isak Pettersson.
Pettersson was required again before the break to deny Moore from another Son dribble to ensure the game remained goalless at half-time.
A triple substitution followed from Postecoglou with Van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Son brought off with Sunday's trip to Brentford in mind.
Elfsborg created the first opportunity of the second period when Besfort Zeneli's shot deflected into the path of Jalal Abdullai, but he hooked over.
Bergvall had a diving header saved by Pettersson soon after before Tottenham's injury curse struck again when Dragusin landed awkwardly on his knee 16 minutes after he had replaced Van de Ven.
Dragusin tried to continue but was forced off and Scarlett was introduced in the 66th minute for his first appearance for the club since last May.
Four minutes later and Scarlett made the breakthrough when he powered home a header from Dejan Kulusevski's sumptuous cross.
It was a special moment for Scarlett and another followed for 18-year-old Ajayi, who marked his debut with an excellent individual goal.
Ajayi cut inside and exchanged passes with Scarlett before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
There was still time for Moore, arguably the most talented of Spurs' young crop, to open his account in the second minute of stoppage time when he burst away from his marker and fired home.
