Tottenham have confirmed their place in the last 16 of this season's Europa League.

In the new league phase format, the top eight teams progress straight through to the last 16 and avoid two extra games in a knockout round play-off tie.

Spurs did most of the hard work heading into their final league-phase match against Elfsborg and finished the job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night to guarantee a top-eight finish.

In stark contrast to their Premier League form, the north London outfit are enjoying a rather impressive European campaign to date.

Winning their opening three matches against Qarabag, Ferencvaros and AZ Alkmaar meant they could afford to take two points from a possible nine against Galatasaray, Roma and Rangers to seal a play-off place, at the minimum, after beating Hoffenheim last week.

Who can Tottenham face in Europa League last 16?

Tottenham's progression straight through to the last 16 means they have avoided two extra games next month. This will be a massive boost for Postecoglou as his depleted squad have struggled with the hectic fixture schedule of late.

The last-16 draw will take place on Friday, February 21. The first leg of those ties will be played on March 6, with the return fixtures a week later.

As a result of finishing fourth in the league phase, Tottenham will either face the winners of the knockout phase play-off between the 13th and 14th seeds, or the 19th and 20th seeds.

That will be confirmed after the knockout phase play-off draw on Friday (January 31).

Potential opponents:

Real Sociedad

Galatasaray

AZ Alkmaar

Midtjylland

Spurs seal top eight finish

Tottenham Hotspur booked their berth in the Europa League's last 16 with a 3-0 victory over Swedish side Elfsborg on Thursday, with youngsters Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore netting their debut goals for the London club.

The victory spares Ange Postecoglou's injury-hit team the two-legged knockout round. It was not all good news for the manager as Radu Dragusin had to leave the pitch with an apparent knee injury.

Spurs thoroughly dominated the game, but struggled to break a well-organised defence down, before Scarlett finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute when Dejan Kulusevski curled the ball into the middle of the six-yard box and the 20-year-old striker headed it into the bottom corner.

The 19-year-old Ajayi netted in the 84th minute when he played a one-two with Scarlett before slotting it into the corner. Moore, 17, celebrated his first goal in a Spurs shirt seconds before the final whistle, driving forward and then beating his man before lashing a shot into the far corner.

Postecoglou beams as Europa League win is 'made in Tottenham'

Scarlett, 20, and Ajayi, 19, opened their accounts for the club within moments of their introductions in the second half, while Moore also scored his first Spurs goal with a well-taken third in stoppage-time. Postecoglou explains Van de Ven substitution in Tottenham injury update

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Micky van de Ven’s substitution at half-time against Elfsborg was pre-planned.

The defender made his long-awaited return to the starting lineup as Spurs beat the Swedish side 3-0 on a fantastic night for the club’s youngsters.

Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore all scored their first goals for the club as Postecoglou’s side finished fourth in the Europa League table.

They will now avoid an unwelcome two-legged play-off later this month and are instead granted automatic entry into March’s last-16 round, where Spurs could face either Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or FC Midtjylland.

Spurs player ratings: Scarlett changes game as Moore and Ajayi dazzle

Academy graduates Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore scored their first goals for the club as Tottenham beat Swedish side IF Elfsborg 3-0 to book their place in the Europa League knockouts.

Scarlett, who was recalled from a loan at Championship club Oxford United earlier in the month, had only been on the field for four minutes when he rose to break the deadlock from Dejan Kulusevski’s cross in the 70th minute.

And Ajayi, 19, had barely had a touch when he drove towards the edge of the box, played a one-two with Scarlett and finished well into the bottom corner.

Moore, 17, who started the came, added a fine third in stoppage-time following a jinking run.

A comfortable victory ensured Spurs finished in the top-eight of the league phase and will go straight into the last-16, avoiding a two-legged play-off next month.

Spurs looking to seal top eight finish

Tottenham tonight host Elfsborg in a big Europa League game. Spurs are currently on course for a top-eight finish in the Europa League table but know they must beat the Swedish side in order to absolutely guarantee they will be there. Given the relentless nature of this season’s schedule, that will be a big boost to manager Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou is under pressure this season after a nightmare Premier League campaign but cup competitions remain his saving grace. One of the favourites for the Europa League as a whole, the fact that Spurs could yet taste silverware success perhaps sums up the divisive nature of their season.

Micky van de Ven is back in training for Spurs and could feature tonight. That will be a huge boost to Postecoglou, who has seen his squad wrecked by injury all season. Tottenham handed biggest January boost amid push for new signings

Tottenham vs Elfsborg: Europa League score prediction today

Injury crisis or not, anything less than a win would be considered another nadir for Spurs this season. Postecoglou’s side will again be down to their bare bones, but there is enough quality - tired or not - to see off the fifth-best team in Sweden.

Spurs will hope to build a comfortable lead in the first half so Postecoglou can rest some of his exhausted players ahead of a trip to Brentford on Sunday.

Spurs to win, 2-0.

Tottenham team news vs Elfsborg today

Spurs’ injury woes have somewhat improved with Richarlison being passed fit after being forced off early against Leicester. Pape Matar Sarr is also expected to be “OK” after Ange Postecoglou confirmed the midfielder should not have played during the loss on Sunday.

Brandon Austin will again play in goal with Antonin Kinsky ineligible, sitting out the game along with Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon. Will Lankshear could get the nod up front, though Heung-min Son is the more obvious choice to lead the line despite being clearly in need of a rest.

James Maddison has been ruled out of the game for Tottenham, although Micky van de Ven is back in Spurs training. Cristian Romero has been back in training for a week too but is unlikely to be risked.

Micky van de Ven is tonight set to return to Tottenham's squad for the first time since December 8 as Spurs take on Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Regardless Van de Ven will play some part in a major boost to depleted Spurs, who will be without eight players through injury, with Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon and Antonin Kinsky ineligible.

Brandon Austin will again deputise for Kinsky in goal and, if Van de Ven is on the bench, manager Ange Postecoglou's back four picks itself.

Pape Matar Sarr has been carrying a knock and may not be risked from the start but Yves Bissouma is fit to return to the midfield.

Richarlison is also unlikely to start again after feeling his groin against Leicester last weekend, with Mikey Moore poised to start and Heung-min Son the likeliest candidate to play through the middle.

Premier League clubs working hard in final days of January window

Alex Young @ alexwsyoung12 minutes ago

Transfer news LIVE!

The January window is primed for a thrilling finale as the Premier League’s biggest teams step up attempts to sign, and sell, players. The biggest news is Arsenal seeing a bid for Ollie Watkins rejected, though a second one is being prepped with the Gunners confident of landing the striker. Jhon Duran's expected move to Al Nassr complicates matters, though, with the striker set for a medical today.

Latest transfer news and updates

Dortmund appoint Niko Kovac as new manager

Borussia Dortmund have announced Niko Kovac as their new manager.

Nuri Sahin was sacked earlier in January.

Kovac has signed an 18-month contract and will officially take charge next Sunday after the club’s Bundesliga match against Heidenheim.

Man Utd not making a move for Mathys Tel... yet

Manchester United are waiting on movement on Marcus Rashford before advancing with their interest in Mathys Tel, opening the door for Tottenham and Chelsea.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, United would only be interested in a loan move for the Bayern teenager at this moment.

With Antony out the door, Rashford in talks with Barcelona and ongoing uncertainty over Alejandro Garnacho’s future, there is an expectation that United will firm up their interest soon.

Evan Ferguson move to Bayer Leverkusen hits a snag

Another twist in the Victor Boniface tale.

According to The Telegraph, Bayer Leverkusen have agreed to sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton as Boniface’s replacement... but with the latter now not heading to Saudi, the former deal is in the balance.

Bayer still want to sign Ferguson and could now start offering Boniface out in the final days of the window.

West Ham had hoped to sign Ferguson, who they will no doubt be monitoring the situation.

Tottenham face Dibling competition

Bayern Munich are keen on Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.

The 18-year-old has caught the end in a struggling Saints side, and Tottenham are understood to have Dibling as a top target, either in January or the summer.

However, The Sun report that both Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have now entered the race, complicating the matters for Spurs.

Saudi end Victor Bonfice talks as Jhon Duran flies out for medical

Al Nassr have ended their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface as they prepare to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

Boniface was reportedly all set to move to the Saudi side, with a plane on standby to fly him out for medical tests.

But Al Nassr were negotiating for Duran at the same time and had a bid accepted by Villa last night.

Bayer director Rolfes said: “There have been talks, but we are happy that he will be training with us today. I assume that he will stay”.

“He feels comfortable here, his attitude towards the club is unchanged.”

Four-way battle for Mathys Tel in final days of window

Tottenham are ready to go “big” for Mathys Tel.

The young winger has told Bayern that he wants to leave before Monday evening’s deadline, prompting interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tel is Spurs’ no1 target in the final days of the window.

However, other reports claim it is United who lead the chase for the teenager.

It’s set to be a busy few days!

Manchester United to announce £31.5m Patrick Dorgu deal today

Manchester United will today finalise a £31.5million deal with Lecce for Patrick Dorgu.

United will pay a guaranteed £25m and the rest is in performance-related add-ons, and the player flew to Manchester yesterday for his medical.

Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio both report that the deal should be wrapped up today, with an official announcement imminent.

The expectation is that Dorgu is registered in time to make his debut against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Tottenham make Yoane Wissa move

Tottenham have opened talks with Brentford over a move for Yoane Wissa.

Foot Mercato claim that Spurs have made contact with the Bees to discuss the 28-year-old’s availability, and have also told Wissa’s camp about their interest.

Spurs are keen to add a forward to their squad before the end of the window, but could face competition from Nottingham Forest.

Wissa has 18 months left to run on his current contract.

Man Utd and Barcelona in talks over Marcus Rashford loan

Barcelona are making progress on a deal to sign Marcus Rashford.

The Telegraph report that Manchester United are now in talks over a loan exit for the exiled forward, with Barcelona hoping young striker Ansu Fati will join Ajax to free up the funds to land Rashford.

Barcelona need space to register Rashford so an exit is first necessary to make room in the squad.

The clock is ticking to complete the deal.

Arsenal confident of signing Ollie Watkins as second bid lined up

Arsenal are confident they can sign Ollie Watkins before the transfer deadline, with a second bid being lined up.

An opening bid worth £60million was rejected by Aston Villa yesterday, just minutes after being submitted, but the Gunners are not deterred.

A second bid is expected, despite Villa accepting a bid from Al Nassr for Jhon Duran and the striker set for a medical today.

Watkins wants to join Arsenal, the Mail adds, and in 2020 said of moving to the Gunners: "That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it’s a long shot."

Premier League clubs work on deals in final days of January window

Alex Young @ alexwsyoung53 seconds ago

Transfer news LIVE!

The January transfer window is in its final days and the Premier League's biggest sides are building up for a grandstand finish. Arsenal continue to be in the market for a striker amid ongoing links with Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Nico Williams, but it appears teenage midfielder Sverre Nypan is the likeliest new recruit first through the door as confidence grows over an agreed deal. Wolves are expecting bids for Cunha.

Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Mathys Tel, who has told Bayern Munich that he wishes to leave before Deadline Day. The Blues saw an enquiry for the young striker rejected earlier in the window. Manchester United are ready to cash in on Chelsea-linked Alejandro Garnacho having agreed a £31.5million fee with Lecca for Patrick Dorgu. Meanwhile, Barcelona are still hoping to land Marcus Rashford on loan, and United could replace him with Christopher Nkunku.

Tottenham are working hard on securing at least one outfield signing this month, and have been linked with an audacious move for Williams, while interest in Angel Gomes and Tyler Dibling is likely to be ahead of summer switch. West Ham have made their first move to sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton. Follow the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip below!

Man Utd lead Jamie Gittens chase

Jamie Gittens has prioritised a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United now leading the chase for his signature.

The Reading-born winger is attracting plenty of interest and, after spells at both Chelsea and Manchester City, wants to move back to England after five years with Borussia Dortmund.

According to Sky Sports in Switzerland, United have now moved ahead of the likes of Liverpool in the race for his signature, as they look to steal a march of potential suitors.

He won't come cheap, though. The report claims Dortmund would be looking for close to €100million for a player who has already scored eleven goals and provided five assists since the start of the season.

Liverpool rule out Darwin Nunez sale

Liverpool have ruled out an exit for Darwin Nunez before the January transfer deadline.

The striker has failed to live up to his staggering £85million price tag, which made him the club’s most expensive ever signing.

After just four goals so far this season, two of which came in the same game, it was suggested Liverpool may try to ship out Nunez amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

But The Athletic report this morning that Liverpool have no intention to lose Nunez despite an approach from Al Nassr.

Premier League clubs circle Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba has been approached by a number of Premier League clubs.

The 31-year-old was handed a four-year ban for a positive drugs test, but that has been reduced to 18 months and he can play again from March.

Sky Sports report that clubs in the Premier League, as well as across Europe and Saudi Arabia, have reached out to Pogba’s representatives over a potential deal.

The free agent is expected to make a decision on his future closer to March.

Why Arsenal will earn £12m by beating Girona in Champions League

Arsenal can bank an additional £12million by beating Girona tonight in the Champions League.

Clubs competing in the Champions League receive a £1.8m bonus for every win they achieve in the league phase.

Each position in the table is also worth £230,000, with Arsenal set to bank £7.8m if they hold onto third spot.

A win against Girona is essentially worth an additional £2.9m for the Gunners, while it would also rubber stamp them reaching the last-16 stage and securing at least a further £9.3m in prize money.

Clubs who make it to the last 16 are guaranteed £9.3m in prize money. Not a bad boost during the transfer window.

Man City pushing to wrap up Cambiaso deal

Manchester City are closing in on another January signing.

Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have all arrived this month already, and Andrea Cambiaso could be next.

Arsenal calls for Arsenal transfer activity - and not just a striker

Mikel Arteta is eager for Arsenal to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window closes - even if they cannot sign a new striker.

Arteta has stressed the need for the Gunners to add an attacker after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus suffered injuries.

Arsenal’s targets in that position - such as Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko - would prove difficult to sign this month.

And asked if he would be open to Arsenal adding to the squad elsewhere as a result, Arteta said: “Well, there are situations open and I always say the same.

“If we can improve the squad with players that can impact us for now, for the future, we will try to do that if it is the best thing for the club - and I stand on that.”

Tottenham working on three deals

Tottenham have held talks over moves for Southampton midfielder forward Tyler Dibling and Lille's Angel Gomes.

However, according to the Telegraph, both deals are more likely for the summer.

Dibling is currently injured for the next month or so, while Gomes is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Spurs, though, still hope to add at least one new player to the squad in the final week of the transfer window. It remains to be seen who that is, and if they will get him.

West Ham bid to beat David Moyes to Evan Ferguson

West Ham are hoping to win the race to sign Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, with the Seagulls increasingly likely to let the forward leave this month, writes Malik Ouzia.

The Hammers’s long-standing interest in Ferguson is well-known and has only been amplified since the appointment of Graham Potter, under whom the player made his initial Brighton breakthrough.

Ferguson remains the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton, whose manager David Moyes admired the Irishman during his time in charge of West Ham.

Man Utd book Patrick Dorgu medical

Dorgu has already agreed to the move, and will now fly to Manchester to complete a medical and put pen to paper.

Arsenal set to give up on Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal are ready to accept Benjamin Sesko will not join the club this window.

Journalist Graeme Bailey claims that the Gunners will not be able to persuade RB Leipzig to sell this month.

It’s reported that Sesko, along with Alexander Isak, remains a top target for Arsenal, and a fresh approach in the summer is still on the cards.

But a move for either in January is considered too tough to pull off.

Spurs likely need just a point to secure a top-eight finish

REUTERS

Alex Young @ alexwsyoung1 minute ago

Tottenham are looking to secure a spot in the Europa League knockout stage when facing Elfsborg.

Spurs are certain of a playoff spot after beating Hoffenheim last week, but could really do with avoiding a two-legged tie in February by finishing in the top eight of the League Phase standings.

A point should be enough but Spurs will be expected to beat a team who lie in 20th place and have just lost their best player to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Spurs face three away games after this, one in each of the Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. A resounding win in front of their home fans would prove a perfect tonic.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Tottenham vs Elfsborg is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The match will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham vs Elfsborg team news

Spurs’ injury woes continue to worsen with Richarlison now a doubt after being forced off early against Leicester. Pape Matar Sarr will also be assessed after Ange Postecoglou confirmed the midfielder should not have played during the loss on Sunday.

James Maddison missed game against his former side due to “soreness”, but it is hoped he will be fit. Cristian Romero has been back in training for a week but, again, is unlikely to be risked. Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and Wilson Odobert are sidelined.

Tottenham vs Elfsborg prediction

Injury crisis or no, anything less than a win would be considered another nadir for Spurs this season. Ange Postecoglou’s side will again be down to their bare bones, but there is enough quality - tired or not - to see off the fifth-best team in Sweden.

Spurs will hope to build a comfortable lead in the first half so Postecoglou can rest some of his exhausted players ahead of a trip to Brentford on Sunday.

Spurs to win, 2-0.

Premier League clubs chase major deals as final week of window begins

George Flood45 minutes ago

Transfer news LIVE!

The January transfer window has entered it's final week as the Premier League's biggest sides are tipped for a flurry of late business. Arsenal have been heavily linked with Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha as Mikel Arteta looks to sign a striker before Deadline Day. The Gunners are confident of beating Manchester City to the signing of teenage midfielder Sverre Nypan.

Chelsea have been linked with Alejandro Garnacho with Manchester United willing to cash in on the young star as they look to raise funds for a third bid for Patrick Dorgu, with Lecce demanding £35million. Blues' interest in Mathys Tel and Dean Huijsen could also be reinited as Axel Diasi heads to Aston Villa on loan. Meanwhile, Barcelona are still hoping to land Marcus Rashford on loan, and Christopher Nkunku could replace him.

Latest transfer news and updates

Chelsea target Jhon Duran could leave Aston Villa before Deadline Day

It is not considered a real possibility that Jhon Duran leaves Aston Villa before Monday’s deadline.

The Athletic report that Unai Emery’s preference for a lone striker means the tussle between Ollie Watkins and Duran is likely to end with one leaving - and the latter is attracting plenty of interest.

A £57million bid from West Ham has been rejected, with the club wanting close to £80m.

Villa’s interest in Joao Felix gives Chelsea the edge. The Blues have long been interested in Duran having previously failed to sign him.

Al-Hilal terminate Neymar contract ahead of Santos move

Neymar has seen his contract terminated by Al-Hilal as the Brazilian closes in on a return to Santos.

The forward moved to the Saudi club in August 2023 in a deal worth €90million, but played just seven times after suffering a serious knee injury just two months later.

"Al-Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr. have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent,” the Saudi club posted on X.

Neymar is now expected to return to his childhood club Santos, who he left in 2013 to join Barcelona.

Barcelona still hold Marcus Rashford hope

Barcelona have not given up hope of signing Marcus Rashford.

Rashford at the weekend faced another blow to his desire to continue playing for Manchester United as manager Ruben Amorim said he would rather put his goalkeeper coach on the bench.

Rashford has not played since the middle of December and has rejected moves to Saudi Arabia and Serie A. It seems that Barca are Rashford’s preferred suitors despite their difficulties in terms of getting deals done.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the LaLiga giants are still in contact over Rashford, but need Ansu Fati to leave first to raise funds.

Evan Ferguson ready to reject Tottenham

It appears that one player who will not be joining Tottenham this week is Evan Ferguson.

The same Telegraph report says that Spurs are trying to get at least one deal over the line before the January window slams shut next Monday night.

However, potential striker target Evan Ferguson is reluctant to join Tottenham due to fears that he would be third-choice in the pecking order once Richarlison is back from his latest injury.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to leave Brighton on loan before the deadline.

Chelsea have clear opportunity to sign Duran

Chelsea have a clear opportunity to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

According to Football.London, the Blues' striker target has never been closer to leaving despite Villa's asking price of £80million.

Duran has been tipped to push for the move having been playing second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, and has turned down overtures from Saudi Arabia to remain in a competitive league.

With Villa and Chelsea in talks over Axel Disasi and Joao Felix, and Christopher Nkunku attracting interest from Manchester United and Bayern, the subject of Duran moving in the opposite direction is likely to be raised.

A big few days ahead.

Man Utd submit third bid for Dorgu

Manchester United have increased their bid to sign Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils have seen two bids for the Danish left-back, 20, rejected by Serie A side Lecce.

A third offer has now been submitted to bring them closer to the €40m (£33.5m) price being demanded.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the bid has gone in, but should that fail the Daily Mail claim United could exercise their £15m buy-back option on Alvaro Fernandez at Benfica.

Arsenal and Tottenham to trigger Williams' release clause

Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to trigger Nico Williams’ €58million (£49m) release clause in a thrilling end to the transfer window.

Williams, one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers, is set to be the target of a head-to-head between the north London rivals as they both look to bolster their attacks.

The 22-year-old, who plays with Athletic Club, has scored three goals and given five assists in 29 matches in all competitions this season.

And now Spanish publication Fichajes claim he could be heading to the Premier League.

Chelsea to decide on Disasi exit

Aston Villa have agreed terms with Axel Disasi to join on loan for the rest of the season, with talks now ongoing with Chelsea to seal the deal.

According to Football Insider, Disasi is available this month having fallen down the pecking order at the Blues following the return of Trevoh Chalobah.

Villa need a new centre-back having sold Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce and failed to sign Loic Bade.

Arsenal to benefit from Sesko's 'gentleman's agreement'

Arsenal's pursuit of Benjamin Sesko will be boosted by a "gentleman's agreement" the striker has.

According to CaughtOffside, Sesko and RB Leipzig have agreed to part ways in the summer should his "achievable" asking price be met.

That's good news for the Gunners, but not so much this month with the club in desperate need of a new striker.

Former journalist Charles Watts said: “Sesko still feels like the most likely one for me I have to say. His decision to stay at Leipzig in the summer and sign a new deal did not put Arsenal off. In fact it’s a decision we know they understood, whilst obviously being disappointed.

“The belief is that there is a gentleman’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig that he could leave this summer for an amount that would certainly be achievable for Arsenal.

“So right now it feels like that will be the route they will try and go down. The big challenge, however, will be convincing Sesko that he will get plenty of game time should he decide to make the move, something they were unable to do last summer.

Arsenal to beat Man City to Nypan signature

Arsenal are confident they have won the race to sign Sverre Nypan.

The 18-year-old is attracting interest from the Gunners, Aston Villa and Girona, the latter of which are part of the City Group and would likely provide a stepping stone to Manchester City.

However, The Independent report that Arsenal have made progress in recent days, and it is believed that Rosenborg are willing to do a deal with them.

Tottenham’s crisis continued on Sunday in perhaps their worst defeat of the season thus far.

Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Leicester despite taking the lead to increase the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

While there may be bigger issue in play to explain Tottenham’s dire Premier League form, the injury crisis at the club cannot be ignored.

James Maddison was ruled out for Spurs before even playing Leicester, adding to the list of unavailable players.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Tottenham injuries.

James Maddison

Maddison sat out of the Leicester defeat due to soreness but Postecoglou is confident he will return for the trip to Brentford next week.

Asked if Maddison’s injury was serious, the Spurs boss said: “No, we hope not. He should be alright for next week.”

Potential return date: Sunday 2 February 2025

Richarlison

Richarlison has only just returned from injury and gave the Spurs the lead on Sunday.

Still, the Brazilian was subbed off for Spurs early in the second-half, a decision to have been met by a smattering of boos from the home support.

After the game, Postecoglou confirmed the decision was made due to a groin injury.

“Richarlison was feeling his groin, he had to come off, I should have took him off at half-time and he wasn't running out,” he said.

Potential return date: Unknown

Pape Matar Sarr

Pape Matar Sarr was ruled out of Tottenham’s trip to Hoffenheim with a minor knock. The midfielder then started against Leicester but Postecoglou admitted he “shouldn’t have played”, due to his lack of fitness.

Potential return date: Unknown

Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero is back in Tottenham training but is still working his way back up to full fitness.

Asked if the Argentine or Micky van de Ven could return for the Europa League clash with Elfsborg later this week, Postecoglou said: “We’ll see. There are definitely a couple getting close, Micky and Cuti, they’ll be training with the group and even just having them training is great.”

Potential return date: January/February 2025

Micky van de Ven

Like Romero, the Spurs boss has hinted Micky van de Ven could return reasonably soon.

Potential return date: January/February 2025

Djed Spence

Djed Spence has been playing much more of a role in recent weeks but missed the Leicester game following a knock sustained against Everton.
