Premier League clubs chasing major deals in last week of window

Transfer news LIVE!

Arsenal have reportedly made a huge new bid for Benjamin Sesko as they look to sign a new striker in the final week of the January window. Matheus Cunha is also said to be targeting a move to the Gunners, who are trying to beat Manchester City and Aston Villa to a deal for midfield starlet Sverre Nypan, who has been in London for talks, but could miss out to Liverpool on Jorrel Hato.

Barcelona still want to sign Marcus Rashford but need Ansu Fati to leave first, with West Ham chasing the likes of Jhon Duran and Brian Brobbey and Neymar closing in on a shock return to first club Santos. Follow the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip below!

Latest transfer news and updates

Sverre Nypan in London for Arsenal talks

Sverre Nypan was in London on Sunday night for talks with Arsenal, reports claim.

The Gunners are trying to beat Manchester City in the race for Rosenborg’s midfield wonderkid, with Aston Villa also having made a pitch of their own.

According to the Daily Mail, Nypan travelled to London along with his family and agent Rafaela Pimenta for discussions with Arsenal on Sunday, having spent Saturday watching City beat Chelsea in the Premier League in the box of fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

It is worth noting that the 18-year-old has previously stated his ambition to play for Manchester United.

Man Utd set to launch third Patrick Dorgu bid

Manchester United look determined to sign Patrick Dorgu before next week’s transfer deadline.

The Red Devils are already believed to have seen two bids for the Danish left-back rebuffed by Serie A side Lecce, who are trying to resist their interest.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that United will make a third approach for Dorgu early this week and are expected to move closer to Lecce’s €40m valuation with add-ons.

He adds that Dorgu - also wanted by Napoli - has already agreed personal terms over a switch to Old Trafford.

Barcelona still hoping to seal Marcus Rashford signing

Barcelona are still not giving up on a late January swoop for Marcus Rashford, it is claimed.

The Camp Nou is believed to be the England forward’s dream next destination as he pursues a new challenge away from Manchester United following more criticism from manager Ruben Amorim, under whom he has not played since the middle of December.

But having rejected moves to Saudi Arabia and Serie A, it seems that Barca are Rashford’s preferred suitors despite their difficulties in terms of getting deals done.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the LaLiga giants are still in contact over Rashford, but need Ansu Fati to leave first after he was left as an unused substitute again for Sunday night’s 7-1 demolition of Valencia.

The former Brighton loanee has struggled with injury this term and head coach Hansi Flick believes he wants to stay put.

Liverpool could hijack Arsenal with Jorrel Hato deal

Could Arsenal be hijacked by Liverpool in pursuit of Jorrel Hato?

The Gunners are understood to be long-term suitors of the 19-year-old Ajax defender, who already has five senior international caps for the Netherlands to his name.

But Liverpool have also been linked with Hato and were expected to launch a move in the summer transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds could now bring that move forward to this week and may get their man with an offer of around £25.2m.

Hato was rumoured to have been spotted in the crowd at Anfield during Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ipswich in the Premier League, with Ajax not playing this weekend.

Arsenal to learn Sverre Nypan transfer decision

Arsenal are hoping to beat Manchester City and Aston Villa to a deal for Sverre Nypan.

The Gunners are known to have been chasing an agreement for Rosenborg’s teenage midfielder, who is considered as one of the brightest young prospects in European football.

However, City were also said to have opened talks over Nypan, who travelled to Portugal late last week for a training camp with his current club.

Fabrizio Romano has a new update on the 18-year-old this morning, revealing that Arsenal, the City Football Group and Aston Villa have all now made their respective pitches to Nypan.

It’s now down to the player, who is believed to be visiting each club in turn before making a final decision.

Interestingly, it is said that City’s plan for Nypan would involve him initially joining sister club Girona on loan.

Angel Gomes wants Tottenham move

Tottenham may have received a much-needed transfer boost over Angel Gomes.

Spurs are trying desperately to pull off some new signings in the final week of the January window as they hit a new low with yesterday’s home defeat by Leicester, piling even more pressure on embattled manager Ange Postecoglou and deepening fears over a Premier League relegation battle.

But they could have good news over England midfielder Gomes, whom GiveMeSport claim is keen to join Spurs over the likes of former club Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham.

The 24-year-old has been playing in France with Lille since 2020, though could be on the move back across the Channel in the summer.

Patrick Dorgu latest as Man Utd chase late deal

Manchester United continue trying to complete a late January deal for Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils are rumoured to have submitted two offers now for the highly-rated Danish left-back, 20, both of which have fallen short of Lecce’s valuation.

The Serie A club’s president, Sticchi Damiani, has now spoken out publicly on the transfer saga - insisting his club are trying to “resist” having to sell a prized asset in Dorgu.

“There are a series of situations in progress to complete the squad,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are trying to resist, as is logical, because it is in our interest to keep the players who are protagonists of this group.

“So far, our idea is to not sell anyone in January.”

Chelsea get boost over new top target Dean Huijsen

Chelsea are said to have a top new transfer target in their sights in Dean Huijsen.

The teenage defender has continued to go from strength to strength since joining high-flying Bournemouth from Juventus in the summer, playing a key role for a team who have excelled under Andoni Iraola.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea “really appreciate” Huijsen and have him high up on their transfer wishlist, though Bayern Munich are also believed to be watching him closely along with Real Madrid.

In a big boost to all his suitors, Romano says Huijsen has a release clause in his current Bournemouth contract that becomes active in the summer.

It is believed the clause could be worth somewhere around £54m.

Arsenal make huge Benjamin Sesko bid

Arsenal have made a huge bid to sign Benjamin Sesko in the last week of the January transfer window, reports claim.

The Slovenian international striker has once again emerged as a key target in north London as Mikel Arteta desperately tries to boost an attack depleted by the losses of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to injury in the title race.

Sesko rejected Arsenal in the summer in order to sign a new contract at RB Leizpig, though it seems he could now be open to the move just a few months later.

According to Fijaches, Arsenal have now launched a major offer for the 21-year-old worth €70m (£58.7m).

Amorim casts further doubt on Rashford future at Man United

Ruben Amorim said he will play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach before picking a player that “does not give the maximum”, as he criticised Marcus Rashford’s work ethic in training.

It was the Portuguese manager’s strongest answer yet on why he continues not to pick Rashford.

The England forward has made no appearances and been named in the squad just once in Manchester United’s last 11 matches in all competitions.

Rashford again did not feature on Sunday night as United laboured to a 1-0 win at Fulham despite another uninspiring performance.

“It is always the same reason,” Amorim explained.

When probed as to what that reason is, he replied: “The reason is the training. The reason is what I think a footballer should do in training [and] in life. If things do not change, I will not change.

“It is the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum and do the right things, we can use every player.

“And you can see today on the bench, we missed a bit of pace to go, to change the game. I will put [Jorge] Vital [on the pitch] before I put a player that does not give the maximum. I will not change in that department.”

Anti-Levy sentiment growing with Spurs facing up to a relegation battle after Leicester defeat

Getty Images

Dan Kilpatrick @ Dan_KP27 seconds ago

Tottenham's dreadful Premier League form continued as they squandered a lead to lose 2-1 to struggling Leicester in north London.

Richarlison marked his first league start of the second by opening the scoring with a well-taken header but Spurs imploded in a four-minute period after the break.

Jamie Vardy levelled within seconds of the restart from Bobby De Cordova Reid’s cross and moments later Bilal El Khannouss strode forward and finished from the edge of the box. Spurs had chances to level, with Pedro Porro’s free-kick striking the crossbar, but could not find a way back into the game.

Here are three Spurs talking points from the game…

Spurs plumbing new depths

This was another bleak day for Spurs, perhaps the bleakest yet in a season where you can never be confident that the club have reached rock bottom.

After last weekend’s 3-2 loss to Everton, a side with one win in 12 league games, Spurs went down at home to a team with just one victory in their previous 14 top-flight fixtures.

This will go down as the week when the concept of ‘Dr. Tottenham’ went from gallows humour from supporters to a mainstream concept.

It is no longer an exaggeration to consider Leicester as Spurs’ potential relegation rivals, such is the alarming rate of their decline; Ange Postecoglou’s side are in freefall, with one win in 11 league games and sliding ever close to the drop zone.

It is increasingly difficult to avoid the sense that Ange Postecoglou is running out of time to save his job

AFP via Getty Images

After a dreadful first half at Goodison Park last weekend, Spurs were undone in a four-minute period at the start of the second half, in which they twice conceded.

Both Leicester's goals were the result of dreadfully sloppy defending and a jaded Spurs, who were missing 10 players to injury again, laboured to get back into the game at 2-1 down in a sloppy and low-energy performance.

But the players looked exhausted, the majority of Postecoglou’s depleted squad running on fumes and Pape Matar Sarr, who started the game despite struggling to train in the week, clearly not fit.

As poor as Spurs were, it remains difficult to cast too stern a judgement on the manager and his players when the squad is stretched so thin but, regardless, it is increasingly difficult to avoid the sense that Postecoglou is running out of time.

Fans turn on Levy

An apathy of hopelessness has taken hold of large swathes of the Spurs fanbase - and who can blame them? - but when fans did find their voice, it was invariably to vent at Daniel Levy.

Leicester’s second goal was met by a volley of ‘We want Levy out’, followed by cries of ‘Daniel Levy, get out of our club’ from around the ground.

Frustration at the chairman has generally been restricted to the travelling fans during this bleak mid-winter but now anti-Levy sentiment appears to be growing.

While the players and Postecoglou cannot be considered blameless for a dreadful slump, there is a compelling case that Levy and the board are primarily responsible.

Supporters turned on Levy and the board as Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Leicester

Getty Images

After signing just one first-team ready player for Postecoglou in the summer (as well as offloading several senior squad players), Spurs are still to sign an outfield players after 26 days of the transfer window, in spite of the manager’s repeated calls for “help” for his exhausted squad.

It has been blindingly obvious for months that Tottenham’s squad simply could not cope with the schedule and the pile up of major injuries to key players, so waiting until the end of the month to act (or not acting at all) should not have been an option in this window.

Four-minute spells like the one Spurs suffered at the start of the second half are understandable when the players are out of their feet, running through treacle.

While Postecoglou will eventually be the fall-guy if Spurs cannot quickly address their freefall, supporters are justified in turning the heat on Levy and the board.

Porro and the fine margins

As Spurs searched for a leveller in the second half, Porro looked - somewhat surprisingly - to be their biggest threat.

Just after the hour the right-back’s fierce 30-yard free-kick skimmed off a head in the wall and rattled the crossbar, with goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk well beaten.

A few moments later, Porro burst through Leicester’s defence and found himself free inside the box, with Archie Gray unmarked and screaming for the ball in the middle.

Spurs are just eight points above the relegation zone after four straight defeats

AFP via Getty Images

Instead, Porro took on a low-percentage shot himself from the angle, predictably finding the side netting and prompting furious howls of frustration from the single-tier South Stand.

A free-kick an inch too high and a poor decision in the box from a jaded player; suddenly these feel like the fine margins by which Postecoglou’s job might depend.

Given Leicester’s quality and form, if Spurs had levelled with 30-odd minutes to play, they might have had a chance to turn the game on its head again.

As it was, Porro’s efforts proved the closest they came to an equaliser, along with a Dejan Kulusevski effort which was well saved.

Such is the precariousness of Spurs’ situation, you genuinely wonder how big these moments will prove to the bigger picture.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has admitted he does not know if he will still be in charge in two weeks' time but insists he still feels the support of the dressing room.

The Australian was without 10 injured players for the match and said "at least two others", including midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, were not fit enough to start the game in less extreme circumstances.

But Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence are among the players who could be available in the next "10 days to two weeks", which Postecoglou hopes will give his side "the boost they need...to make an impact in the second half of the season".

Richarlison marked his first league start of the second by opening the scoring with a well-taken header but Spurs imploded in a four-minute period after the break.

Deservedly leading 1-0 at the break through Richarlison’s header, Spurs conceded twice in four minutes at the start of the second half with Jamie Vardy tapping in from close range and Bilal El Khannouss finishing from the edge of the box.

Tottenham suffered a surprise defeat at home to Leicester as the Foxes came from behind to beat Spurs 2-1.

Deservedly leading 1-0 at the break through Richarlison’s header, Spurs conceded twice in four minutes at the start of the second half with Jamie Vardy tapping in from close range and Bilal El Khannouss finishing from the edge of the box.

Pedro Porro’s free-kick struck the crossbar and Dejan Kulusevski went close but a depleted Spurs, who were missing 10 players through injury, could not find a way back into the game.

Created the opening goal with an excellent cross for Richarlison and twice came close to scoring, including with a deflected free-kick off the crossbar at 2-1. But De Cordova Reid escaped behind him for the equaliser and, a few minutes after his free-kick, he selfishly shot instead of squaring to Archie Gray.

Occasionally loose in possession and lost Vardy for the equalising goal but is putting in a shift every game and must be in need of a proper rest.

Made a couple of important blocks in the first half but could have been more assertive at the start of the second half when Leicester turned the game on its head.

Looks tired but coped well at left-back before moving into a more familiar midfield role for most of the second half.

Went missing for Leicester’s second goal and was sloppy in possession at times, suggesting he remains rusty following a series of recent absences.

Set up big chances for Porro and Son in the first 20 minutes and kept battling in another impressive display in the circumstances.

Involved in the build up to the Spurs goal but did not look fully fit. No surprise when he was hooked early in the second half.

Continues to work hard and look a huge threat on the counter but is obviously jaded. Went close to a leveller in the second half but the keeper stood up well to his shot.

Looked sharp after his double mid-week, twice forcing excellent saves from Stolarczyk at 0-0, but faded in the second half.

Marked his first league start of the season with a well-taken headed goal to break the deadlock. Looked a threat and his withdrawal shortly before the hour was met with boos.

It is a measure of Postecoglou’s current options that the Spaniard is now considered a game-changer from the bench. Got up and down well enough but short of quality in possession.

Tottenham dealt fresh injury blow as Ange Postecoglou explains James Maddison absence

Midfielder not in Spurs squad for Premier League clash with Leicester

Getty Images

Dan Kilpatrick @ Dan_KP59 seconds ago

Ange Postecoglou has explained why James Maddison is not in the Tottenham squad for their game against Leicester.

Maddison arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the Spurs squad on Sunday but the midfielder was a surprise absence when Postecoglou named his team.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Postecoglou said: “He [Maddison] is still a bit sore from the other night.

“It took a fair bit out of him and he was not 100 per cent, so he misses out.”

Maddison scored and stood up with good performance when he played 89 minutes to help Spurs beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in the Europa League on Thursday.

Asked if the injury is anything serious, Postecoglou said: “No we hope not. He should be alright for next week.”

Spurs play Elfsborg in the Europa League next Thursday before travelling to Brentford in the Premier League next Sunday.

Postecoglou is also without Djed Spence against Leicester after he failed a late fitness test.

Pape Sarr passed a late fitness test to start in midfield alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall.

Losing Maddison and Spence for the Leicester game is another blow for Spurs, who remain without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert.

Spurs face struggling Foxes amid dire form and injury problems

While Spurs have slumped to 15th in the table and remain without a host of key players due to an injury crisis, they at least remain on track in the various cup competitions still to play for and Postecoglou will hope they can build on their 3-2 Europa League win over Hoffenheim on Thursday .

Postecoglou: No need for anonymous sources to explain Spurs struggles

Ange Postecoglou says injuries are the only explanation for Tottenham's troubled form and has insisted the club is “in a much better place in all areas” than when he took over in the summer of 2023.

Spurs are slumped to 15th in the table, leaving Postecoglou's tactics in the spotlight and the head coach under pressure to reverse the slide.

Spurs could be without 11 first-teamers this afternoon, including four of his regular back five and key forward Dominic Solanke.

Asked for insight into why Tottenham were struggling for points, Postecoglou said: “Just injuries.

“You can walk outside and say ‘Jeez, it’s really bright’ and look at the sun and think ‘maybe it’s not the sun.’ But it’s the sun, mate. We’ve just got injuries.

“You can do a million investigations and talk to anonymous sources but you don’t need to talk to anonymous sources you can talk to me.

“Every decision that is made is on me. I’m responsible for it. I’m the one that is guiding this. If you’re looking for a head on a stick take mine.

"But I am absolutely 100 per cent confident that we are in a much better place in all areas of the club today than we were when I started.”

Tottenham vs Leicester prediction

Spurs may be in dire form but their attacking players surely have enough to overcome Leicester, who are one of few teams in the league in worse form than them.

The Foxes have lost seven on the spin and new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is already under pressure. Anything less than a win for Spurs would be a disaster.

Tottenham to win, 2-1.

Leicester team news

Full-back Woyo Coulibaly is likely to make his debut after joining from Parma last week.

Wilfred Ndidi and Mads Hermansen will not return, while Abdul Fatuwu and Ricardo Pereira remain long-term absentees.

Tottenham team news

Tottenham have injury doubts over Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr.

Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson remain sidelined among a long list of absent Spurs players including Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Being without Spence, Bissouma and Sarr would leave Ange Postecoglou desperately short of options.

Archie Gray appears in need of a rest and will have to play next Thursday against Elfsborg in the Europa League, so Sergio Reguilon could make only his second start of the season at left-back.

If Sarr and Bissouma do not make the cut, Postecoglou will have no choice but to stick with the same midfield three that played in the Thursday's 3-2 win over Hoffenheim in Germany,

Postecoglou is down to just four first-team forwards, including teenager Mikey Moore.

Premier League giants eye major deals as the window heats up

George Flood2 hours ago

Transfer news LIVE!

Arsenal look to have been handed a late January transfer boost with Benjamin Sesko said to have already picked the club over Chelsea or Manchester United. The Gunners are still being heavily linked with Matheus Cunha as they seek a new striker before the deadline, while Arsenal are also now said to have opened talks over a deal for midfield starlet Sverre Nypan but face a battle with Manchester City.

Latest transfer news and updates

Napoli confirm Garnacho interest

Napoli have confirmed their interest in signing Alejandro Garnacho before the January transfer window deadline.

Manna told Gianluca Di Marzio: "Karim Adeyemi and Alejandro Garnacho are two names that interest us, that we like. They are not the only ones, we will try to evaluate the opportunities.

"We will certainly not pay off-market prices. Kvara [Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] must be replaced, a transfer for the player's will

"We are not holding back. We also have other ideas, let's see what happens in the next few days."

Veiga set to seal Chelsea loan exit

Renato Veiga looks set to clinch his exit from Chelsea this weekend.

The versatile Portuguese international only arrived at Stamford Bridge from Swiss outfit FC Basel in the summer, but is now heading out on loan to Serie A with Juventus.

According to Fabrizio Romano, everything has been agreed now for Veiga to seal his switch to Turin.

He will undergo a medical and officially sign his contract this weekend, remaining with Juve until the end of the current season.

The loan will include no obligation or option for a permanent transfer, so the 21-year-old - who apparently wants to spend more time playing at centre-back - will be back at Chelsea in the summer.

Newcastle plan Isak contract talks

Newcastle will offer Alexander Isak a huge new contract at the end of the season in an attempt to keep him out of the grasps of interested clubs, such as Arsenal.

The Telegraph report that the striker is not for sale at any price despite talks over an extension last year being paused, and discussions were begin again in the summer.

It is understood that £150million would tempt Newcastle into selling, a price which is realistically out of reach for any club, while the striker has not been distracted by continual transfer speculation.

But a summer bidding war is anticipated, and Newcastle want to get ahead of it by making Isak the highest-paid player in their history.

Real Madrid want to sign Fernandez without paying a transfer fee

Real Madrid are plotting an audacious move for Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez is a target for the Spanish giants, though they hope to sign the £107million midfielder without paying a transfer fee.

That is because, according to reports from South America, Madird want to negotiate a swap deal by offering Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni, who cost almost £70m in 2022, is reportedly open to leave Madrid because he's been played out of position in defence.

Fernandez initially struggled at Chelsea but has since grown into a key player in the team.

West Ham clear to sign Brobbey after Tottenham links

The path looks clear for West Ham to sign Brian Brobbey.

The Dutch international forward has apparently been offered to the Hammers by Ajax, who will only accept a permanent transfer this month or at least an obligation to buy in the summer rather than a straight loan deal.

It remains to be seen if West Ham will be willing to commit to that, though it seems that Tottenham will not battle their London rivals for Brobbey.

Standard Sport understands that he is not a player currently on Spurs’ transfer radar amid reports of their interest on Friday.

Bade confirms Aston Villa rejection

Loic Bade has confirmed he has rejected Aston Villa to stay at Sevilla.

He told reporters a short while ago: “I'm staying, yes. It was very important for me to stay.

“Aston Villa have a very good project, but I am happy here and I wanted to stay.”

Antony's shirt number

More details regarding Antony’s loan move to Real Betis have been revealed.

The Brazilian will wear the number 17 shirt for the La Liga side.

No.21 is taken by Marc Roca whilst Cedric Bakambu is in possession of No.11.

Sanchez u-turn?

Enzo Maresca has said Robert Sanchez will remain Chelsea’s No1 for the remainder of the season.

However, will the Blues boss change his mind following yet another costly mistake from the goalkeeper in today’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City?

Well, this is what Maresca has said: “I’m not thinking about the seasons coming. I’m thinking about this season.

“For this season? No doubt. But then in the future, we don't know. It is not only about Robert. It is not even about me, you know? I’m focused on this moment, this season. Since we started, Robert is getting better, but he is still far from where I want him to be.”

Real Madrid expect to sign Alexander-Arnold

Major development, potentially, in the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Yesterday we brought reports that Real Madrid are beginning to accept that Alexander-Arnold will stay at Liverpool in this window after seeing a bid rejected.

However, Marca claim that an agreement between Madrid and the English international is well advanced, and is expected to be finalised in the summer.

Of course, Alexander-Arnold's contract at Liverpool expires in the summer which means he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England.

Spurs under big pressure ahead of Premier League visit of the Foxes

Spurs meet Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday

Tottenham are under pressure to put struggling Leicester to the sword in the Premier League on Sunday.

Amid what has been a dreadful run of form, Tottenham at least beat Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday night to raise some confidence.

It remains to be seen if that really was enough to provide some kind of turning point for Ange Postecoglou’s side, with Spurs having been torn apart in the first-half of their last League outing at Everton.

Spurs have lost seven of their last ten League games and failing to beat a Foxes side second from bottom in the Premier League table would only pile more pressure on Postecoglou.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Tottenham vs Leicester is scheduled for a 2pm GMT kick-off time on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London will host.

Tottenham vs Leicester team news

Spurs are likely to be without Djed Spence, Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma for the game.

The likes of Antonin Kinsky and Sergio Reguilon and Min-hyeok Yang will all be available too, with none of them registered for the first stage of the Europa League.

Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Timo Werner, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke are all out. Romero has returned to Tottenham training but is unlikely to feature on Sunday.

For the Foxes, new signing Woyo Coulibaly could be available but all of Mads Hermansen, Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Abdul Fatawu are injured.
