Ipswich rub salt in Tottenham wounds by mocking James Maddison after grabbing three points

Ipswich rubbed salt in Tottenham's wounds by poking fun at James Maddison following their impressive victory in north London. The Blues held on to secure their first Premier League win since 2002, with Sam Szmodics and Liam Delap getting the goals.

Szmodics fired Ipswich ahead with a stunning overhead kick as Tottenham lost their bearings while trying to hack the ball clear. Delap doubled their advantage before the break, poking home from close range after yet another defensive mix-up from the hosts.

Tottenham halved the deficit through Rodrigo Bentancur but were unable to find a leveller despite ramping up the pressure in the closing stages. There were jubilant scenes in the away end after the final whistle as the Ipswich fans celebrated a famous victory.

Maddison came off the bench in the second half as Ange Postecoglou rolled the dice, but his introduction did not make any difference to the result. After the game, he caught a stray on social media as Ipswich twisted the knife with a cheeky post.

The Blues shared an image of Maddison, a former Norwich player, pulling Omari Hutchinson's shirt alongside the caption: "It's much easier to get a Hutchinson shirt by going to our online store." They included a link to buy the pink third jersey on the club website.

The result saw Ipswich them climb out of the relegation zone with one win, five draws and five defeats from their opening 11 matches. They will host Manchester United after the international break in Ruben Amorim's first game as Red Devils manager.

Kieran McKenna was left delighted with the performance of his players against Tottenham, saying after the final whistle: "The journey to get to here has been a big one. It feels a bit special today. We believe we’ve been improving.

Ange Postecoglou ripped into his players and accused Ipswich of taking 'strategic time-outs' during their impressive win over Tottenham. The Blues secured their first Premier League victory of the campaign thanks to goals from Sam Szmodics and Liam Delap.

Szmodics fired Ipswich ahead with a brilliant overhead kick as Tottenham lost their bearings while trying to defend Jens Cajuste's ball into the box. Delap doubled their advantage before the break, poking home from close range after yet another defensive mix-up.

Tottenham got one back through Rodrigo Bentancur in the second half but could not find a leveller, with Ipswich hanging on to claim all three points. Speaking after the final whistle, a furious Postecoglou gave a damning assessment of his side's lacklustre display.

He said: "Hugely disappointing. We started slow and passively. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Second half we had chances but didn’t do enough to win the game. It's just down to me. I’m not getting consistent performances from the players.

"It’s something I need to address. I’m the person in charge so that’s usually the way it goes. I take responsibility. We can’t give ourselves those kind of mountains to climb."

Postecoglou also suggested that Ipswich players were going down with apparent injuries in a bid to slow Tottenham down and take the sting out of the game.

"It seems to be the way the Premier League is going," he said. "Clubs are taking strategic time-outs. We just have to cop it. It’s up to the officials, not me."

Why is Tottenham vs Ipswich not on TV in the UK? How to watch match

Tottenham play host to Ipswich Town in the Premier League today (November 10) – but the 2pm kick-off won’t be broadcast live in the UK. The visitors face an uphill task of adding to their five points from 10 games.

Spurs have lost just once at home this season and have won their last six there in all competitions. Ipswich, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first win of the season after Leicester’s late equaliser denied them all three points at Portman Road last weekend.

There’s sure to be goals with Ange Postecoglou’s side the league’s top scorers heading into the weekend and Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys conceding the second most behind Wolves. However, fans in the UK won’t be able to watch any of them as they go in.

Why is Tottenham vs Ipswich not on TV in the UK?

The fixture had to be moved to Sunday due to the hosts playing Galatasaray away in the Europa League on Thursday. Manchester United, who welcome Leicester City, and Chelsea, who host Arsenal, are in the same position.

But while the juicy London derby is the main event of Sky Sports’ Super Sunday offerings at 4.30pm, neither of the other games were selected to be televised. Instead, the broadcaster opted for Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle.

From next season, all games apart from Saturday 3pm kick-offs will be shown live in the UK. But for now, teams in Europe’s second and third tier aren't guaranteed to have their domestic fixtures shown.

How to watch Tottenham vs Ipswich

While the game won’t be on in the UK, it will be broadcast via local Premier League TV rights holders in other countries. Sky Germany will be airing it, for example.

Canal+ in France have selected United’s match instead, but those in the United States will be able to access it as NBCUniversal have the rights to all 380 games in the Premier League this season.

UK-based fans will have to wait for highlights to be released by Sky shortly after full-time. Match of the Day 2, airing from 10:30pm on BBC One, will have extended coverage and analysis.

Ben Davies defends 'devastated' Tottenham star after Galatasaray loss

Ben Davies has called on his Tottenham team-mates to rally after their Europa League heartbreak at Galatasaray, urging them to clinch a victory against Ipswich following a 3-2 midweek defeat.

Despite a valiant effort from 10-man Spurs in the second half, their first-half blunders led to them conceding three goals and after they were further hampered by Will Lankshear's red card, a goal from substitute Dominic Solanke was not enough to secure a draw.

The absence of key defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at Rams Park compounded their woes, with Romero potentially rejoining the team for Sunday’s match with Ipswich.

Nonetheless, Davies is prepared to step up. Reflecting on the game, Davies admitted: "A tough one. I think we were the masters of our downfall in that first half and left ourselves a little bit too much to do in the second.

"It was something we definitely needed to handle better in the first half because I am sure if we look back on the video and take the atmosphere out of it, there was space to play. We just need to be a lot better on the ball."

Looking ahead, Davies highlighted the importance of the weekend's match: "It’s another big game for us (against Ipswich). It would be nice if we could go into the international break with three more points on the board. That’s the hope."

Despite facing a one-match ban in Europe, Lankshear will be available for Sunday’s home fixture. Davies assured that the team would support the 19-year-old, who scored his first Tottenham goal after 18 minutes but was given two yellow cards in quick succession after half-time.

"Unfortunately for Will it is tough and these things happen but he’ll learn from that. He’s pretty devastated in there but it’s up to us to help him through it now," Davies insisted. Galatasaray’s victory was driven by a two-goal performance from Victor Osimhen.

This was Galatasaray’s first match since Jose Mourinho launched a scathing attack on Turkish football and the "system" his Fenerbahce team are allegedly fighting against.

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk refuted Mourinho’s claims and Osimhen asserted that the Super Lig champions believe they can go all the way in the Europa League.

Osimhen stated: "This is a big win for us and I think we have the squad to go further and of course try to win the Europa League, but it’s not going to be easy.

"We have also a lot of obstacles and a lot of good teams we are going to face, but we will be prepared for any of them."

Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou points finger after Galatasaray humbling

Ange Postecoglou's rejigged defence gifted Galatasaray endless opportunities in a harrowing showdown, marred by Dejan Kulusevski's agonising miss in the dying moments that nearly salvaged a point for Tottenham.

The Swedish substitute failed to hit the target in the 93rd minute with Galatasaray's goalkeeper Fernando Muslera stranded – capping off a night where Spurs could have embarrassingly conceded into double digits against the Turkish titans who amassed 29 shots.

Despite Tottenham's sloppy performance and missed chances from the opposition that bordered on comical, the Premier League side narrowly avoided utter humiliation. Victor Osimhen capitalised on Spurs' incessant blunders with a brace before halftime, shadowing Yunus Akgun's sublime six-minute opener.

Although youngster Will Lankshear struck gold with his maiden senior goal before receiving his marching orders at the hour mark, it was evident Postecoglou's backup defence was out of their depth in what was billed as Tottenham’s sternest test.

That is despite three initial victories offering some leeway for an injury and illness-hit squad. The defensive naivety, from opening whistle to the crushing finale, left the coach deeply concerned.

Postecoglou lamented his team's generosity, stating bluntly, "It was self-inflicted," pinpointing their habit of relinquishing possession.

"It was self-inflicted," Postecoglou said. "The moments that stick out to me was giving the ball away."

The hotly-tipped Osimhen could have walked away with a double hat-trick had he not been thwarted by Fraser Forster, the offside flag and some rare wayward attempts.

His brace came thanks to defensively shambolic play that wouldn't pass in Sunday league football, especially from Radu Dragusin, who crumbled under pressure, setting up Osimhen's opener.

The Romanian defender was also caught flat-footed when Osimhen breezed by for his second after a slick pass from Dries Mertens. "In the first half we gave the ball away too much," lamented Postecoglou.

"We lacked composure and we allowed Galatasaray to get a foothold in the game and we paid the price for that."

Forster seemed to be the only player on the visiting team worth his salt as a half-time switch, which saw captain Heung-min Son withdrawn, did little to stem the tide of Galatasaray's relentless assault post-break.

After a flurry of chances for Galatasary and a stunning though ultimately fruitless strike by Akgun, the scale of their impending victory seemed immeasurable.

Victor Osimhen fires message to Chelsea and Arsenal after Tottenham demolition

Victor Osimhen is once again making waves on the European football scene, serving as a stark reminder to Arsenal and Chelsea of his transfer potential. The Nigerian striker, who was previously linked with both London clubs during his time at Napoli, has been in fine form despite a high asking price that initially dampened interest.

Instead, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres became the focus for both clubs. Last summer, Osimhen was told to find a new club but failed to secure a move before the transfer window closed across most of Europe.

However, he was snapped up by Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal. Despite only netting four times since his move, Osimhen has played a crucial role in Galatasaray's rise to the top of the Turkish league and their strong start in the Europa League.

He scored in the major derby match against Besiktas last Monday, continuing his scoring streak. When Tottenham visited RAMS Park, Osimhen scored twice in the first half, helping his team to a 3-1 lead at half-time. Substitute Dominic Solanke reduced the arrears in the second half.

His first goal came after an error from Radu Dragusin, with Osimhen neatly finishing a first-time effort. His second followed shortly after, volleying home a cross from Dries Mertens.

The 25-year-old had four shots on target in the first half and also saw another effort ruled out. In just 45 minutes, Osimhen reminded everyone of his talent, a performance that could be pivotal in determining his future.

Upon leaving Naples for Turkey, he inked a new deal until 2027 that includes a break clause which can be activated in January and a new release clause believed to be around £66.6million. Compared to previous summers, Osimhen could now leave for half the price Napoli previously demanded.

Sesko and Gyokeres could cost in that region with recent revelations suggesting the latter may leave Sporting for as little as £50million.

Tottenham player ratings vs Galatasaray: Three flops get 3/10 in loss

Tottenham were hugely fortunate to fall to only a 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray with several stars failing to perform in the Europa League clash. The Turkish side could have scored at least two or three more goals as Victor Osimhen ran riot in Istanbul.

Osimhen, who has been linked with Arsenal in recent transfer windows, netted twice after Yunus Akgun's stunning long-range volley opened the scoring. Galatasaray waded through Spurs' side with ease at times and should have enjoyed a far more comfortable scoreline.

The night looked set to be a special occasion for academy forward Will Lankshear. He equalised after Akgun's strike but his game unravelled and he was sent off in the 60th minute having collected two yellow cards.

Too many Spurs players were hugely below-par, with nine starters scoring below a 5/10 rating. Here is how Express Sport scored Ange Postecoglou's team.

Fraser Forster - 3/10

Considering Forster could do little for any of the goals, this was still a poor display from the goalkeeper. Twice he was bailed out by his own defenders after flapping at crosses - although there was one strong save to deny Akgun. Galatasaray should have had five or six.

Pedro Porro - 4

Porro struggled to get forward and was positioned deeper than he might like - perhaps due to Postecoglou not quite trusting his two centre-backs. One of his only forays into Galatasaray territory saw him cross for Dominic Solanke’s consolatory goal.

Radu Dragusin - 3

Romanian defender Dragusin must just want this Europa League campaign to end. Sent off against Qarabag, the 22-year-old lost possession with a poor touch for Osimhen’s first goal and was then caught flat-footed for the striker’s second.

Ben Davies - 4

Osimhen had the better of both Spurs centre-backs all evening. Postecoglou will need to try something different for Premier League games against Ipswich and Manchester City if Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are to remain sidelined.

Archie Gray - 5

One of very few Spurs players to come out of this game with any credit. Gray dealt well with Galatasaray’s attacking threats in an unnatural left-back role.

Lucas Bergvall - 4

Bergvall started brightly but faded far too quickly. The highly-rated Swedish star needs a confidence boost.

Yves Bissouma - 4

Bissouma actually had a good first half but lost his composure in the second period. He was booked for protesting Lankshear’s red card and came very close to talking himself into a second yellow card.

James Maddison - 3

On a day when Maddison was once again snubbed for an England recall, he showed why several midfielders have gone ahead of him in the thinking for international recognition. He scored a wonderful free-kick against Aston Villa at the weekend but was wholly anonymous in Turkey. The playmaker must step up more often when Spurs’ backs are against the wall.

Brennan Johnson - 5

Johnson provided a threat in the first half and grabbed the assist for Lankshear’s goal. The Wales international was taken off at half-time.

Will Lankshear - 4

It started so positively for the 19-year-old. He tapped home his first senior goal despite touching the ball just twice in the first half. Frustration got the better of the academy graduate and he must have forgotten he was already on a yellow card when he lunged into a silly challenge on Gabriel Sara.

Son Heung-min - 4

Son is surely still playing with the injury which kept him out of three matches in September and the start of October. The club captain looked hindered in the first half and did not emerge for the second period.

Substitutes

Dejan Kulusevski (for Son, ‘46) - 5

Kulusevski tried and tried but could do little to turn around Spurs' performance. A couple of driving runs threatened to bring his side back into the game.

Rodrigo Bentancur (for Johnson, ‘46) - 5

Bentancur performed well after being introduced at half-time.

Pape Sarr (for Maddison, ‘66) - 5

Spurs gained some control following Sarr's introduction.

Dominic Solanke (for Bergvall, ‘69)

Solanke gave Spurs hope with a lovely flicked finish midway through the second half. It would have been remarkable if Spurs got anything from this game.

Tottenham: Lloris shares brutal Daniel Levy story as he asks questions

Description

Hugo Lloris has criticised Daniel Levy's decision to present Tottenham's players with luxury watches for reaching the Champions League final, claiming it demonstrated a lack of winning mentality.

Spurs made their first-ever European Cup final in 2019, defeating Manchester City and Ajax in dramatic fashion to reach the final against Liverpool.

Before the final, Levy gifted each player an Aviator watch engraved with the word "finalist". Despite their Champions League success, Tottenham's poor league performance was evident as they were soundly defeated by Liverpool in Madrid.

Mohamed Salah scored an early penalty, followed by a late goal from Divock Origi. Lloris felt that the club, particularly the chairman, had settled for second best.

In his new book serialised in The Guardian, Lloris wrote: "Who does such a thing at a moment like this? I still haven't got over it, and I'm not alone. If we'd won, he wouldn't have asked for the watches back to have 'Winner' engraved instead."

The French goalkeeper admits he's never worn the watch and believes Levy's decision to reward them simply for reaching the final may have contributed to their early deficit in the match.

Tottenham, who have not reached such heights since, were left to reflect on their defeat. However, Lloris noted that many associated with the club "were not sufficiently despondent at having lost" despite missing out on Europe's top honour.

The former No 1 added: "When I returned to my room on the night of the final, I think I had the same feeling as Mauricio (Pochettino) and Harry (Kane): does the club really want to win? Real Madrid would never have celebrated a lost final, and we shouldn't have either."

Pochettino was dismissed just months after the Champions League final, and since his departure, no Tottenham boss has lasted more than two seasons. They've also rarely threatened to win any silverware, their best effort coming when they were defeated in the Carabao Cup final in 2021.

Traditionally, quarter-final ties commence on the week starting Monday, December 16, leading many to assume United's face-off with Spurs would be on Tuesday, December 17 or Wednesday, December 18. However, it has been revealed that United's match against Ange Postecoglou's team will take place on Thursday, December 19 at 8pm, with the other three quarter-finals taking place the previous night.

This game has been chosen for live broadcast on Sky Sports. As it stands, United are also set to play Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday, December 21 at 3pm, leaving manager Ruben Amorim with the daunting task of preparing his team for two matches in under 48 hours.

Despite the Premier League announcing its TV picks for the festive period last month, United's match against the Cherries was not selected for live UK broadcast, meaning it remains in its original 3pm slot on December 21.

Tottenham learn Richarlison 'injury timeline' after gut-wrenching statement

Richarlison is reportedly set to spend the next four weeks on the Tottenham sidelines.

The Brazilian came on as a substitute in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, only to hobble off again 26 minutes later. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has been waiting to discover the extent of the damage to his forward's hamstring while tests were conducted this week.

And he has not been given good news. According to journalist Paul O'Keefe, Richarlison will be out for a 'minimum' of four weeks.

The 27-year-old had only been back for five games after a groin strain which kept him out for almost two months. Richarlison made it clear that the outlook was bleak when he posted a heartbroken Instagram message on Wednesday. "Difficult moment that will be overcome again," wrote Brazil's No 9.

"[I] was very happy training and playing. And suddenly the injury comes again. [It's] hard to talk at a time like this. I only ask that you pray for me and that God gives me protection."

His absence adds to Postecoglou's injury worries, with Cristian Romero's toe injury being continually assessed, Wilson Odobert suffering a 'serious setback' shortly after returning to fitness, and Micky van de Ven likely to miss the next two games.

Richarlison has took time to settle in at Spurs following a £60million switch from Everton in the summer of 2022. Alarm bells rang when he managed just one Premier League goal in his first season, but he kicked on to hit 12 in all competitions last term.

Though not a guaranteed starter, the former Watford star is an important member of Postecoglou's squad. And depth is a key requirement for the north Londoners, who are in the midst of a taxing Europa League campaign and vying for a strong run in the Carabao Cup.

The upcoming international break will at least limit the number of games Postecoglou is without Richarlison. If the four-week projection proves to be accurate, he will miss clashes with Galatasaray, Ipswich Town, Manchester City, Roma and Fulham before returning at Bournemouth in early December.

Spurs are currently seventh in the Premier League table and a tough fight for the top four is set to take shape over the course of the campaign. Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are seen as prominent contenders for fourth spot behind title challengers Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal.
