Bryan Gil’s frustrating spell at Tottenham Hotspur is set to come to an end, albeit on a temporary basis this summer.

Gil joined Spurs in July 2021 but has made just 43 appearances in all competitions and spent two seasons back in Spain on-loan with Sevilla and Villareal. The 23-year-old is expected to leave north London again this summer with Girona his likely destination.

The La Liga side, who are part of the City Football Group, have qualified for the revamped Champions League after finishing 3rd in La Liga behind only Barcelona and champions Real Madrid. Gil is set to join Girona on-loan with the Spanish side potentially having the chance to buy him on a permanent basis.

Gil made just three Premier League appearances following the turn of the year last season and was the unfortunate player to miss a penalty against Newcastle United during their post-season friendly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The winger may not have long to wait to exact his revenge, however, and could make his debut for Girona at St James’ Park when the Spanish side travel to the north east for a pre-season game on Friday 9 August as part of the Sela Weekender.

Newcastle United will face Girona on Friday night before taking on Stade Brestois in the Sela Cup a day later. That game will take place at 4pm on Saturday 10 August. Newcastle United Women will also play at St James’ Park when they take on AC Milan on that day with that game set to kick-off at 1pm.

Amanda Staveley’s links to investing in Tottenham Hotspur have been slammed following her departure from Newcastle United

Staveley’s departure from Newcastle United was confirmed on July 12 with 5% of her 5.7% stake being absorbed by majority owners the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund while the remaining 0.7% has gone to RB Sports & Media. PIF’s stake now stands at 85% and RB Sports & Media’s is 15%.

But Staveley has already been linked with investing in another Premier League club. According to Bloomberg, Staveley has targeted Tottenham Hotspur as a potential investment opportunity.

Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners have reportedly raised £500million to invest in football with several clubs being looked at. According to Bloomberg’s report, Staveley has held initial discussions to purchase a minority stake in Spurs with Rothschild & Co.

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have also been listed as a potential target.

But financial expert Stefan Borson has questioned Staveley’s links to Spurs, slamming the report as ‘nonsense’.

“It sounds like nonsense to me,” Borson said via Football Insider. “It seems unlikely that she would go from a position of very significant influence to a very serious minority at Tottenham.

“Everybody in football knows Tottenham is available for investment or a sale at the right price. But they have very significant expectations on value, probably something like eight to nine times what Staveley and PIF paid for Newcastle.

“I think it’s pretty unlikely that she’s come out of Newcastle at whatever valuation she has, where she was clearly very influential and is just going to accept a very insignificant role at Spurs.”

Borson also previously suggested Staveley’s departure may have been due to the financial commitments needed at Newcastle.

“I don’t know the arrangement in terms of how they exit,” he admitted. “They have been diluted down over time and will continue to be diluted down.

“Newcastle are substantially a loss-making club on an operating level and that will continue for the foreseeable future.

“Each year that goes by, they will need investment from the parent company. I suspect Staveley and her husband [Mehrdad Ghodoussi] were not in a position to continually put up their share of the equity required every time there is a funds raise.

“At some point, they are just going to keep getting diluted down and they will eventually become irrelevant in the mix.

“I don’t know the extent to which this was all planned in the first place, but they will have always known they were going to get diluted down over time because Newcastle are going to require a huge amount of investment for quite some time before it could be even close to self-sustaining.”

Newcastle has undergone significant changes behind the scenes so far this summer. In addition to Staveley and Ghodoussi’s departure, sporting director Dan Ashworth has been replaced by Paul Mitchell while James Bunce has been appointed as the club’s new performance director.

Brad Miller has also joined the club as chief operating officer with chief executive Darren Eales confirming the club’s ‘c-suite’ team is in place to take care of the day-to-day running of the football club.

The latest transfer talk from St James Park as Newcastle United seek to aim more new faces to their squad during the summer window.

Newcastle United could reportedly add another right-back to their squad amid suggestions Kieran Trippier is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave St James Park during the summer transfer window.

The England international became the first high-profile signing following a PIF-led takeover at St James Park when he completed a £12m move to Tyneside after the Magpies had agreed a fee with then-La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. After making his debut in a shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of Cambridge United, Trippier went on to become a standard setter for the Magpies and enjoyed a remarkable first full season with the club.

With a high level of consistency, Trippier played an integral role in helping the Magpies secure a top four finish and end their two-decade wait to compete in the Champions League. The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back was also in the Magpies side that reached a first major cup final since 1999 before suffering a Wembley defeat against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final. Although the defender remained a key part of Eddie Howe’s squad last season, he was the subject of interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in January and there have now been suggestions Trippier could join one of two Saudi Pro League clubs this summer.

Should the experienced full-back depart, Tino Livramento would be in line to become a permanent successor to Trippier on the right-hand side of Howe’s backline. Emil Krafth remains a trusted figure with the Magpies boss and would provide backup and competition for the England Under-21 star but a major decision over Harrison Ashby’s future could lie in wait as the former West Ham United youngster has failed to make a meaningful impression during his time on Tyneside.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of full-backs in recent months and reports in Italy have suggested the Magpies are particularly keen on Fiorentina star Michael Kayode. The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive first season in the senior setup with La Viola and received praise from head coach Vincenzio Italiano after he impressed during a 4-1 win at Genoa on the opening day of the season. He said: “Kayode has a strong character, he fears nothing and it’s important when you are this young. Moreover, he is physically strong and motivated after winning the Euros. When he returned to Florence he kept the gold medal around his neck for a few days.”

Kayode is currently in England as their preparations for the new Serie A season continue with a training camp. Corriere dello Sport have reported on his future and claimed the full-back is ‘flattered’ by interest from the Premier League and revealed La Viola are open to a loan deal if a fee over an optional permanent move can be agreed. With Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also said to be interested in the Italy Under-21 star, Fiorentina have reportedly suggested they would be open to selling Kayode if they receive an offer in excess of £24m.

Ivan Toney is reportedly prepared to run down his contract at Brentford if he does not secure a move away from the club this summer.

Toney has been linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium ever since his suspension from football ended in January. A whole host of Premier League clubs have shown interest in Toney this summer with West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur among those considered frontrunners for his signature.

And whilst there is plenty of suitors for the former Newcastle United man, there has yet to be an official bid submitted for him and, according to TalkSport, Toney will run down his contract with the Bees and leave as a free agent next summer if he is not sold before the August 30 deadline. Speaking about the striker, Thomas Frank admitted that it was ‘obvious’ the 28-year-old would leave the club this summer.

Speaking in February to Danish media, via Tipsbladet, Frank said: “It is relatively obvious that Ivan Toney will probably be sold this summer. We also know what he is worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.

“He is a really skilled striker who is in his prime football age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney but one day it could be fun to see him on a top team. This winter we actually had no offers for him, but it will surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs that will be interested in him.”

Two Premier League stars could step into the shoes of a former Magpies winger.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur stars are reportedly being lined up to replace former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin at Saudi Arabia Pro League club Al Ahli.

The enigmatic Frenchman became a popular figure with the St James Park faithful after joining the Magpies in a £15m deal from Ligue 1 club Nice during the summer of 2019. Saint-Maximin’s pace and trickery meant he became a rare source of positivity throughout what was a difficult time for the Magpies as they successive bottom half finishes in the Premier League under former manager Steve Bruce.

The arrival of Eddie Howe as Bruce’s successor saw Saint-Maximin continue to feature prominently as the former Bournemouth boss guided United away from the relegation zone during his first six months in charge at St James Park before leading the Magpies to a surprise fourth placed finish and a place in the Champions League during his first full season on Tyneside. Yet Newcastle’s preparations for a return to European football’s elite were hampered by Saint-Maximin’s departure to Al Ahli - although the reported £23m fee enabled the Magpies to make a move for Leicester City star Harvey Barnes.

Saint-Maximin scored four goals and provided ten assists in 31 appearances in all competitions for the Pro League club but his stay in the gulf state could now be limited to just one season after he linked up with Jose Mourinho by agreeing a season-long loan move to Turkish giants Fenerbache.

In an emotional Instagram post following the move to Istanbul, the French winger said: “Last season wasn’t easy, but we pushed through, and I’m happy that we managed to secure third place in the league. Overall, I enjoyed being with exceptional teammates. Seriously, I made brothers for life in this team! I am truly grateful for the experience and your warm support. I wish I could have given you more. With proper pre-season training, I wanted to offer so much more, but next season, my story will be written elsewhere as I am going on loan for a year to a new club. “Thank you for all your messages! I wish you all the best. Until we meet again.”

Reports in Saudi Arabia have now claimed Al Ahli have shortlisted two Premier League stars to replace Saint-Maximin and help them challenge for the Pro League title after they ended last season 31 points adrift of eventual champions Al-Hilal. Saudi outlet Al Riyadia have suggested Spurs forward Richarlison and Arsenal’s four-time Premier League winger Gabriel Jesus have ‘entered the list of options’ to replace Saint-Maximin and coach Matthias Jaisle is ‘assessing the feasibility of signing a player before giving his technical approval.’

Richarlison, who was tentatively linked with a move to Newcastle earlier this summer, has already suggested he would not entertain a move to Saudi Arabia as he said: “I left my vacation and came to work to come back better ahead of next season. Regarding what’s been said in the media in the last few days, it’s fake news. I will NOT leave England ahead of next season.”

The latest transfer talk from across the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have been told to make a shock move for Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils academy product scored just eight goals in 43 appearances in all competitions last season - but did help Erik ten Hag’s side lift the FA Cup with a final win against arch rivals Manchester City that ensured Newcastle United would miss out on a place in European competition for the upcoming season. His inability to find consistent form throughout the campaign cost Rashford a place in the England squad for the Euro 2024 as now former manager Gareth Southgate opted to name the likes of Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze and Cole Palmer in his 26-man final selection.

There have been some suggestions the 26-year-old has a difficult relationship with Red Devils manager Ten Hag after the duo clashed following Rashford’s decision to go on a night out following a home defeat against eventual Premier League champions Manchester City in October. With speculation regarding the forward’s future at Old Trafford still ongoing, former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara has suggested he ‘would love’ to see Rashford join his old club, even if it meant paying over £80m to secure what would be a surprise deal.

He told talkSPORT: “I’ve got a soft spot for Rashford. I don't know why because watching him last season frustrated the hell out of me. When he's walking around at Luton and you're thinking come on mate give me more, but he's got star quality. He's got the X-factor and if you get a manager who gets the best out of him you're going to get a top player.

“He doesn't get on with Erik ten Hag, that's a problem that they've got to solve. You can't have someone on £375,000-a-week just sitting on the bench not doing anything and not featuring and not being involved. He's got to play, you've got to find a way of getting him in the team. He makes brilliant runs, but never gets the ball. Would you pay £80m for him? Yes I would, I would love to see him at Tottenham.”

Hammers to make move for England defender

West Ham United are reportedly preparing a move for AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori as part of a double defensive deal.

New Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui has already landed Wolves captain Max Kilman and is now looking to continue strengthening the defensive options he inherited from David Moyes by moving for former Chelsea star Tomori. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a successful three-year spell in Italy and helped Milan land the Serie A title in 2022 and has appeared in the Champions League during his time in the San Siro.

Newcastle are one of several clubs to be linked with a move to bring Tomori back to the Premier League in recent months but Italian outlet CalcioMercato has now claimed West Ham have ongoing ‘open dialogue’ with Milan over a possible move for the defender and have been quoted a fee of between £34m and £38m to make a deal happen.
