Tottenham Hotspur have now set their sights on a young English centre-back who is making waves in Belgian football, but they face plenty of competition from fellow Premier League sides for the player.

English youngsters earning their Spurs abroad

Over recent years, we have seen a number of English players make a move abroad at a young age to get regular game time, before making a move to the Premier League once they have established themselves at the top level.

We have seen the likes of Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke successfully do that and it now looks like young defender Archie Brown might follow in their footsteps.

The former Derby County youngster has been winning many admirers with his performances for Gent and the centre-back is now in line for a big move to the Premier League.

Tottenham are fans of Archie Brown

This update comes from TBR Football, who say that Spurs are among Brown’s admirers, having followed his progress closely in Belgium.

The left-sided centre-back’s impressive displays for England’s Under-20 side have now reportedly brought him to the attention of a number of Premier League sides.

The report adds that Chelsea and Man Utd checked on the defender last season, with the Blues retaining their interest.

Meanwhile, West Ham, Fulham, Brentford and Leeds have also allegedly sent scouts to Belgium to watch the youngster in action.

Tottenham reportedly keen on a left-sided centre-back

It has been reported over recent weeks that Spurs are now keen on signing a left-sided centre-back in January due to their concerns about Micky van de Ven‘s injury record.

In fact, journalist Graeme Bailey even told The Spurs News last week that Ange Postecoglou now considers the position his top priority.

Archie Brown is the sort of profile Tottenham will likely target, given his age, raw pace and his technical attributes.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified the player who could replace Crsitian Romero but their North London rivals, Arsenal, will not allow the Lilywhites to sign him without a fight.

Cristian Romero’s future uncertain

Tottenham may not be in any immediate danger of losing Romero, whose current deal at the club runs until 2026.

However, it was reported by GiveMeSport a few days ago that the Argentine is hesitant to commit to a new contract at the North London club.

This is because the 26-year-old’s head has allegedly been turned by Real Madrid and he is tempted to move to the Spanish captain if Los Blancos come knocking for him next summer.

Spurs identify Romero’s replacement

It has now been reported by TBR Football that in case Spurs lose their vice-captain next summer, they have identified Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande as the man to take his place in the squad.

The 20-year-old is quickly garnering a reputation as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, and it is revealed that he has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while.

In fact, the outlet reveals that Spurs were keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast international even before they secured Radu Dragusin from Genoa at the start of 2024.

Ousmane Diomande will not be easy to get

However, TBR Football say that Spurs will face some stumbling blocks in their efforts to sign the Sporting star, with Arsenal also said to be keen on the youngster.

In fact, the Gunners have reportedly been scouting the defender on a regular basis, while Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on his development.

The publication adds that Diomande’s release clause stands at around £68m but the centre-back is expected to be available for a fee of around £42m to £51m.

Kieran Maguire explains what Amanda Staveley and her backers will be thinking as they remain in talks over investment into Tottenham Hotspur and another Ligue 1 club.

Amanda Staveley in talks with Daniel Levy

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Staveley has now put a team together to buy a stake in Tottenham and that she is backed by ‘serious money’ from the Middle East (The Sun)

According to some outlets, the former Newcastle co-owner is in talks with Daniel Levy over buying a 25 per cent stake in the North London club, with the discussions said to be ‘advancing’ (Football Insider).

Tottenham have maintained their silence on the matter, although Levy has been open about the fact that the club are seeking investment (The Guardian).

Staveley is also in discussions with French side

However, the former Newcastle minority owner is seemingly not putting all her eggs in the Tottenham basket. This is because it has been reported over recent weeks that Staveley and her backers are also in talks over buying a majority stake in Ligue 1 side Monaco (Bloomberg).

However, Kieran Maguire has now remarked that there is no reason why a potential takeover of Moncao would stop Staveley and co from investing in Tottenham.

The Football finance expert told TBR Football: “Monaco is the poster child for a trophy asset club given its geographical location. The downside is that the issues in relation to the French broadcasting deal make it difficult to see where the growth lies.

“A lot will depend on which type of person she is trying to pitch the club towards. There is no reason why she couldn’t do both. Her investment at Newcastle was minimal. If she could find two parties to back her investment, there is no reason why both can’t be done independently of one another.”

Tottenham the bigger prize

Maguire believes that Tottenham are undoubtedly the more attractive of the two clubs, given the Premier League side’s strong balance sheet.

He added: “Spurs is a much higher entry cost but the rewards are much greater. There are so many positives with Spurs. They have grown spectacularly since the move to the new stadium.

“All they have to do is start getting things right on the pitch. That appears to be moving in the right direction at the moment.”

Tottenham Hotspur are in the driver’s seat to sign one La Liga star but Aston Villa are now threatening to enter the picture and swoop for the player ahead of the North London club.

Spurs have an option to buy La Liga midfielder

As part of the agreement to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, Spurs secured a £25m option to sign Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso next summer (Telegraph).

The 23-year-old has won several admirers with his solid displays in the base of the Betis midfield and it has been reportedly that he is on the radar of several clubs around Europe.

It was reported recently by Estadio Deportivo that the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and a few other clubs are eyeing the USA international ahead of the January window.

Aston Villa enter the race for Johnny Cardoso

Ficherio now reveal that Aston Villa are also fans of Cardoso and are keeping tabs on the midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

In fact, the outlet alleges that Unai Emery’s men could even make a double move for the American and his Betis teammate Diego Llorente

The report adds that the Midlands club’s sporting director Monchi is spearheading the pursuits, knowing full well that Tottenham could swoop for Cardoso if they wait until next summer.

Will Tottenham act?

Some sources over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham are certain to activate the option to buy Cardoso next summer (Graeme Bailey – The Spurs News).

However, if Villa or some other club step up their pursuit in January, Spurs would have to get involved in a bidding war as the Lilywhites’ option only becomes active next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are willing to allow one senior star to terminate his contract in January as he looks to leave the club on a free transfer.

Spurs defender eyeing January exit

It came as a surprise to many when Sergio Reguilon stayed put at Tottenham in the summer as it was evident that the left-back was not in Ange Postecoglou‘s plans

Predictably, the 27-year-old has not made Spurs’ matchday squad on a single occasion so far this season and the defender is now reportedly making plans to seal an exit from the North London club in January.

It has now emerged that the Spain international is looking to terminate his contract and leave on a free transfer when the transfer window reopens.

Tottenham willing to terminate Reguilon’s contract

This update comes from CaughtOffside, who claim that although the left-back’s current deal runs until next summer, Spurs are willing to cede to his demands and terminate the final six months of his deal.

This is because the player is not in Tottenham’s long-term plans and the club are keen to get his salary off their wage bill.

A termination is seen as beneficial for all parties, with the Lilywhites expected to aid the Real Madrid academy graduate in his efforts to return to Spain.

Two La Liga clubs interested

CaughtOffside say that a return to La Liga is viewed as ‘ideal’ by Reguilon, who is looking for the right project to get his career back on track.

Sevilla, where he previously spent a season on loan, are thought to be interested in re-signing the 27-year-old, with the Andalusian club valuing the Spurs man’s experience.

Meanwhile, Getafe are also expected to vie for Reguilon’s signature if he is available on a free, with both Spanish clubs ready to start talks with the player’s agent.

Ange Postecoglou opens up on working with Levy after Lloris criticism

Description

Ange Postecoglou gives his two cents on the criticism levelled by Hugo Lloris at Daniel Levy and discusses his own dealings with the Tottenham chairman until now.

Hugo Lloris lifts lid on Daniel Levy’s bizarre gift

Excerpts from Hugo Lloris‘ upcoming autobiography were published in The Guardian this week, and the former captain revealed a shocking detail about a gift that the Tottenham players received four days before the 2019 Champions League final.

The Frenchman revealed that the players received watches which had their names and the words ‘Champions League Finalist 2019’ engraved on them and that the gift was not well received by the squad.

The goalkeeper said: “At first, we were excited to see the elegant boxes. Then we opened them and discovered that he’d had the back of each timepiece engraved with the player’s name and ‘Champions League Finalist 2019’.

“Who does such a thing at a moment like this? I still haven’t got over it, and I’m not alone. If we’d won, he wouldn’t have asked for the watches back to have ‘Winner’ engraved instead.

“I have considerable respect and esteem for the man and all he has done for the club as chairman – I got to know him – but there are things he is simply not sensitive to. As magnificent as the watch is, I have never worn it. I would have preferred there to be nothing on it. With an engraving like that, Levy couldn’t have been surprised if we had been 1–0 down after a couple of minutes: so it was written.”

Ange Postecoglou reacts to Lloris’ comments

Postecoglou has now pointed out that there are always two sides to every story, insisting that the Tottenham chairman’s version would have been a lot different to Lloris’

MORE SPURS STORIES

He pointed out that there have been countless times in his own career when he perceived events very differently from others he was working with.

When asked about the former Spurs man’s comments, the Tottenham head coach responded (via Football.London): “In my own life, people will often talk about experiences they’ve shared with me and I’ve got a totally different view on it to what they have. Both of us are speaking the truth. We all have our own truths for these things and we look at things through the prism of how they affect us.

“I think Hugo’s – and again I haven’t read it, so I don’t want to take it out of context – but Hugo’s talking about his own experience but is that the experience of everyone? I’m sure Daniel had a different view on it and if you asked him he’d have a different type of context to why it transpired that way.

“I think when something doesn’t work, it’s very easy in a post-mortem to look for reasons why. I never think it’s just one. I think it’s bigger than that. It would have been a very different story if it had have gone the other way, because it was a pretty tight final as well.”

Ange Postecoglou on working with Daniel Levy

The Tottenham head coach refuted suggestions that Levy is not focused on helping Tottenham win on the pitch. The 59-year-old insisted that from the moment he joined the club, no one at N17 has curtailed his ambitions of wanting to make the club successful.

Postecoglou added: “My dealings with Daniel anyway at the club… I haven’t changed from the moment I took on this task. I know what ambitions I have for this football club and there’s been nothing here that I feel has curtailed me achieving what I want to for this football club.

“A lot of that is in my own power, I control a lot of that. The rest of it is trying to get people along for the ride and to believe in what we’re trying to do.”

Tottenham in talks with agent of Jack Grealish over sensational move

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now in talks with the agent of Manchester City star Jack Grealish regarding a big move to N17 in January after first testing the waters back in the summer.

Spurs want to bolster their attack

It has emerged that Ange Postecoglou wants to bolster his attack in the January transfer window, with the Tottenham head coach allegedly wanting to bring in a versatile option who can challenge James Maddison and Heung-min Son for a starting birth.

According to a report by Football Transfers, the Lilywhites are fans of Jack Grealish and are now speaking to his representatives regarding a move to N17.

The Man City star has fallen down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order, and it is revealed that after coming ‘very close’ to signing the 29-year-old in the summer, Spurs are now trying again in January.

Johan Lange spearheading approach

Football Transfers say that Johan Lange played a crucial role in Grealish’s big-money move to Manchester City when he was Aston Villa’s sporting director.

The England international is said to be ‘appreciative’ of how Lange handled the transfer and made it as smoothly as possible, with the pair having maintained a good relationship since then.

The Dane reportedly spoke to Grealish about a move to Tottenham in the summer, but the player chose to remain at the Etihad and fight for a place in City’s starting eleven at the time.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet adds that during the summer talks, there was also a £3m gap between the wages that the City star wanted and what the North London club were willing to offer.

This report smells fishy

Several things do not add up about the suggestion that Tottenham want Jack Grealish.

Firstly, James Maddison is not in the Spurs’ strongest eleven at this point, and the idea that the City star could be bought in to compete with his fellow England teammate for a place in the team makes no sense.

Spurs are also well stocked with options for the left-flank and Grealish is not your typical Postecoglou winger as he is not the best when it comes to pressing out of possession and takes too many touches on the ball.

Finally, the former Aston Villa man also does not fit the age profile of Tottenham’s typical targets under the current regime.

Club confirm 'constructive talks' with Tottenham Hotspur this week

A European side have confirmed that they have held constructive talks with Tottenham regarding close collaborations in the future both on and off the field.

Two Tottenham players shining on loan

Spurs have loaned two of their young talents, Alfie Devine and Luka Vuskovic, to the Belgian side KVC Westerloo, and the pair have been getting regular minutes in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

Vuskovic, in particular, has caught the eye, with the 17-year-old not only being solid defensively but also contributing significantly at the other end of the pitch, with four goals and an assist in 13 league matches so far this season.

On the back of the successful loan agreement from two clubs, it turns out that the Premier League side and the Belgian side are in talks to strengthen their ties.

Westerlo confirm talks with Tottenham

Westerlo have confirmed on their official website that while doing their monthly review of the performances of Devine and Vuskovic, Tottenham also held an additional meeting with the Jupiler Pro League side’s officials.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, chief football officer Scott Munn, and technical director Johan Lange met with Westerloo’s vice-president Hasan Cetinkaya and board member S. Berk Ercan.

The Antwerp-based club stated that the meeting could be a “catalyst for strengthening future collaborations” with Spurs both on and off the field, adding that the two sides have taken “the first step toward a future exchange of ideas, players, and resources.”

Are Spurs taking steps towards a multi-club ownership model?

This sort of agreement is not a one-off, with Tottenham also agreeing a similar sort of partnership with Djurgardens IF earlier this year after striking a deal to sign Lucas Bergvall.

Djurgardens sporting director Bosse Andersson confirmed back in March that the Swedish club were discussing a partnership with Spurs which would facilitate the exchange of players and other collaborations in the future (Footballskanalen via Fotboll Direkt).

Perhaps, this is a sign that Tottenham want to move towards a multi-club ownership model like Manchester City, RB Leipzig and others.

Spurs admire winger but his club are determined to keep him

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are named as one of the admirers of a 17-year-old forward who is taking Portuguese football by storm, but it looks like it will be extremely challenging for the Lilywhites to get the youngster out of his club.

Portuguese starlet continues to dazzle

While Tottenham fans have been transfixed by what Mikey Moore has done at N17 this season, Geovany Quenda, who is of the same age as Moore, is doing even more impressive things in Portugal.

The teenager has not only established himself in Sporting Lisbon’s starting eleven but has dazzled onlookers on a regular basis with his exciting and inventive wing play.

It has now emerged that Spurs are one of the clubs eyeing a move for the young starlet ahead of January but getting him out of Sporting will be easier said than done.

Sporting Lisbon determined to hold onto Geovany Quenda

TBR Football name Tottenham as one of several Premier League clubs who admire Quenda, with Chelsea and Man City also said to be watching the youngster’s situation.

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly to be one step ahead, having already made enquiries about the Portugal Under-21 international’s availability.

However, it is revealed that Sporting are desperate to hang on to the winger and want him to continue developing at the Jose Alvalade Stadium until the 2026 World Cup.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lisbon giants are well protected as the player has a €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract, which is not likely to be activated by anyone for the moment.

Quenda is the perfect profile for Spurs

While Ange Postecoglou has several options for the left-wing role, there is no natural right-winger at Tottenham other than Brennan Johnson, now that Dejan Kulusevski has moved to a central role.

Quenda is a natural right-sided player, who prefers cutting in on his left foot, thus offering a point of difference compared to Johnson.

His age and tactical profile match the kind of players that Spurs have signed under the current regime, but Sporting are notoriously difficult to negotiate with, which is why this will be a hard one for the North London club to pull off.

Regular Spurs starter 'increasingly likely' to push for 2025 transfer

Description

One of Tottenham’s most important players is reportedly set to push for a move away from the North London club if one side substantiates their interest in him next summer.

Spurs star’s head being turned?

Cristian Romero is one of the pillars of the Tottenham side under Ange Postecoglou, with his aggressive front-foot style of defending and his line-breaking passing ability being crucial to the way the Lilywhites play.

The Argentine is also one of the main leaders of the side, being the deputy to captain Heung-min Son, but it now looks like Spurs face the prospect of losing him next summer.

This is because it has now emerged that Romero has become Real Madrid’s main target for next summer’s window, with Los Blancos set to prioritise a move for the Tottenham man over Arsenal’s William Saliba.

Cristian Romero likely to seek a move away from Tottenham

This update comes from GiveMeSport who say that Romero is now ‘increasingly likely’ to seek a move to Madrid if the European Champions come calling at the end of the season.

The prospect of a fresh challenge at the Spanish capital is said to appeal to the 26-year-old, which is why Tottenham have had to remain patient in their efforts to tie their vice-captain down to a new contract.

The outlet explains that despite Romero‘s head being turned, Spurs ‘remain determined’ to tie him down to a new long-term deal on fresh terms.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is pointed out that Ange Postecoglou‘s men are in a strong position at the moment as the centre-back still has two and a half years left to run on his current £165,000-per-week deal.

What Tottenham are willing to do to keep Romero

GiveMeSport say that Spurs are willing to make Romero their joint-highest-earner alongside Heung-min Son in an effort to persuade him to sign a new deal.

The Lilywhites are reportedly ready to put him on the wage bracket as the South Korean, who takes home £190,000 per week, but it is unclear if this would be enough to persuade the former Juventus man.

The publication adds that Tottenham remain hopeful that the defender will commit his future but they fear that the situation could drag on for several months, given the player’s refusal to rule out a switch to Madrid.
