Bryan Gil makes intentions clear to leave Tottenham Hotspur permanently at the end of the season

Tottenham Hotspur are set to undergo some hardcore changes to their squad during the off-season.

Tough decisions must be taken after a woeful second season under Ange Postecoglou, with the Lilywhites losing their 19th Premier League game on Sunday—a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of champions Liverpool.

As the ongoing Premier League season has worn on, frustrations have continued to build among the Spurs faithful. Majority of the fanbase have understandably lost faith in Ange Postecoglou, and the Australian tactician has done nothing to change the club’s fortunes.

The veteran boss is expected sacked even if the North Londoners win the UEFA Europa League, while several players could be offloaded at the end of the season. In fact, one player has already said he is leaving the club. Bryan Gil has now conceded that he is planning to leave Spurs this summer, stating that he and the club agreed to move their different ways.

Bryan Gil left Tottenham to join Girona on a season-long loan last summer. As part of the winger’s new Tottenham contract, the winger has had a £12.8million release clause inserted, and Girona have been given priority to trigger it before June 30 if they want to.

However, the Spaniard has endured a premature end to his season with Girona after being forced to undergo surgery on his right knee in March. Before that, the 24-year-old had registered three goals and as many assists in 25 La Liga fixtures. Now, Gil states that he has decided to leave the Lilywhites permanently, with both him and Tottenham on the same page.

Gil had a torrid time at Spurs and never felt like he had the qualities to thrive in the fast-paced and physical nature of Premier League football. The creative winger is more suited to playing in a bit slower, more technically proficient league such as La Liga, where we saw the Spanish international thrive in the first half of the season on loan at Girona.

With just one year left on his Tottenham deal, Girona will try to negotiate a lower fee than the £12.8million release clause inserted in his contract. And as the player has no future at N17, the club bosses must be ready to accept a lower fee to move him on.
