Tottenham could be set for a massive windfall this summer as details of a hefty sell-on clause emerged

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on negotiations between newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town and Sunderland for exciting forward Jack Clarke, who joined the Black Cats from Spurs in 2022.

The i reports that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insisted on a massive 40% sell-on clause when the ex-Leeds United star moved to the north east, and two years later, they will land an impressive £10million if Sunderland manage to sell him to the Tractor Boys for the reported £25million.

Sunderland won promotion back to the Championship in 2022 through the play-offs and later secured Clarke on a permanent four-year deal. He played four games for Spurs but has now racked up 112 appearances for the former Premier League side.

Tottenham's quiet business could be handed a lifeline

Tottenham have only signed Archie Gray from Leeds United, even though they also announced earlier in the summer that they have taken up the option to extend Timo Werner's contract for another season.

Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall has also joined the team. He was signed in January but remained at Djurgården before linking up with the Spurs squad this summer. Since then, they have agreed to terminate Tanguy Ndombele’s contract and loaned out Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to Marseille with an obligation to buy and sold Joe Rodon to Leeds United.

They have also left Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil in North London for the club’s pre-season tour, signalling their intentions to move them on. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou impressed in his first season at the club, playing exciting football even though he ultimately missed out on Champions League football by finishing fifth in the league. If they were to get a windfall from Sunderland’s sale of Clarke, then you’d expect more to come through the door as they look to win their first major trophy since the Carling Cup in 2008.
