Tottenham Hotspur are still pushing to strengthen the options available to Ange Postecoglou before the end of deadline day.
Kevin Danso arrived as Tottenham’s third January signing on Sunday, however, following news that Radu Dragusin could miss the rest of the season owing to injury, Spurs might not be done just yet.
Tottenham launched a bid for Marc Guehi, who is expected to leave Crystal Palace within the next six months or so.
Guehi would arguably be an upgrade on all of Spurs’ current options at the back, even considering Micky van de Ven’s quality.
And perhaps news of a huge bid for Guehi suggests that Tottenham might fear losing Cristian Romero to Real Madrid in the future.
Angel Gomes has decided to leave Lille amid interest from Tottenham
Aside from Guehi, Tottenham are also interested in Angel Gomes who recently began his England career under Lee Carsley.
The former Manchester United man is currently playing his football for Lille in Ligue 1, but according to journalist Mike McGrath, he won’t be for too much longer.
Gomes has decided to leave Lille as a free agent in the summer when his contract expires, which is said to interest Tottenham and West Ham United in particular.
Daniel Levy has been pushing to sign Gomes, and his task might now be a bit easier following the 24-year-old’s decision.
Taking to X, McGrath said: “England midfielder Angel Gomes will stay at Lille for the rest of the campaign ahead of move as a free agent in the summer.
“The 24yr-old ex-MUFC player has host of Premier League clubs incl Tottenham + West Ham wanting him at end of contract.”
Gomes will stay at Lille until the summer and then leave for free
Perhaps Tottenham may have liked to have recruited Gomes mid-season in an ideal world, but the midfielder will stay put in Lille, where he has made a ton of progress.
Gomes was originally a number 10 when he came through at Old Trafford, but the Englishman now plays his football in a much deeper role, dictating play in midfield.
In truth, Gomes would be well suited to both Postecoglou and Graham Potter’s style of football given his ability on the ball, a midfielder who defies his diminutive stature to impress in the middle.
TBR Football recently shared that West Ham had offered Gomes a contract which might in turn accelerate Tottenham’s own efforts.
Gomes is now free to negotiate a pre-contract with clubs in the Premier League, a player who arguably has unfinished business in England.
