TBR Football understands that James Maddison’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is far from certain this summer.

Spurs have had a really poor campaign this season. They have lost 18 games in the Premier League and are currently 16th in the table.

TBR can confirm that Ange Postecoglou is set to leave Tottenham even if he wins the Europa League and ends Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy.

That could have a huge impact on one player this summer.

James Maddison and Ange Postecoglou’s futures could be interlinked

James Maddison’s future at Tottenham could be directly dependent on what happens with Ange Postecoglou, sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

The Englishman was signed by the current Spurs boss when he took charge of the club in the summer of 2023. Maddison was viewed as a marquee signing at the time.

The former Leicester City man started his Tottenham career brilliantly. He was fantastic in his first few months at the club, but since his injury, he hasn’t quite been the same.

Gary Lineker even questioned if Maddison has fallen out with Postecoglou after seeing that the Spurs boss wasn’t giving him consistent minutes.

Maddison has played the full 90 minutes in just two games all season – against Everton in the Premier League and against Tamworth in the cup.

That has led to speculation about his future, but Bailey has confirmed that Maddison is likely to stay if Postecoglou is shown the door.

He said: “James Maddison’s future is far from certain to be at Tottenham. But we could very well see a summer of upheaval at Spurs.

“If Ange Postecoglou leaves, the Maddison conversation will have to be had – I believe there is more chance of him staying, should the manager leave. Maddison has England aspirations and he has that in his mind.

“And I can tell you I know of a couple of Premier League clubs who would want him, but as said, it will depend on who is in charge – he could yet have a long-term future at Spurs.”

James Maddison stats in 2024/25 compared to 2023/24

Maddison has come under a lot of criticism for his performances at Tottenham this season.

The Englishman, hailed as ‘magnificent‘ by Tim Sherwood, has failed to turn up in several games, and that has led to a lot of debate about him over the last few months.

But how have his numbers been this season compared to last?

Maddison’s numbers show clear improvement this season, but the reason for all the criticism has been his performances in recent months.

Since Boxing Day, the Englishman has managed just one goal and two assists in the Premier League, which is not good enough for a player of his quality.

It remains to be seen if anything will change with the new manager next season if Postcoglou leaves.
