Crystal Palace rejected a bid from Tottenham for England defender Marc Guehi over the weekend.

It is another setback for Spurs in their ongoing search for reinforcements in what is proving to be a frustrating January transfer window for the north London club.

Tottenham have also been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich and Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan. Both players are understood to have rejected the opportunity to move to Tottenham.

It is expected Guehi will remain at Palace during this window. Newcastle and Spurs could revive their interest in the summer when he enters the final year of his deal.

Chelsea were also keen on re-signing Guehi earlier this window before they decided to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Palace.

Spurs are looking to add another defender after the loan (with obligation to buy) signing of Kevin Danso. They ended their pursuit of Chelsea defender Axel Disasi earlier on Deadline Day.

Ange Postecoglou's side has suffered several injuries in the centre of defence. Radu Dragusin picked up a worrying knee injury last week in their Europa League victory over Elfsborg, with Cristian Romero also on the sidelines.

Micky van de Ven has only just returned from a long-term injury and was not named in Spurs' matchday squad in the win over Brentford on Sunday to manage his minutes ahead of Thursday night's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Liverpool, live on Sky Sports.

'A major show of solidarity and support from Palace'

Sky Sports News' Michael Bridge at the Tottenham Hotspur training ground:

"Spurs really do need another centre-back. There are reports that Radu Dragusin's injury is more serious than first feared. They signed Kevin Danso from Lens on Saturday evening for around £21m.

"Deadline Day is usually quite busy here and stories come from out of nowhere. The story we're getting now, via widespread reports, is that Crystal Palace have rejected a bid worth up to £70m from Spurs for Marc Guehi.

"That is a major development - major money as well that Palace have turned down. Given his contract length [Guehi's deal expires in 2026] that's a real show of solidarity and support from Palace's side for keeping Guehi.

"We brought you news in the summer of the four rejected bids from Newcastle for Guehi, who was happy to stay."
