Ange Postecoglou’s side had a great end to their Europa League campaign, beating Elfsborg 3-0 to finish 4th in the league phase and secure their place in the last 16. How Tottenham Hostpur Have Lined Up Recently

Brandon Austin returned in between the sticks against Elfsborg with Antonin Kinsky not registered for the Europa League. Tottenham’s new signing will return to the team against Brentford as he looks to impress before Guglielmo Vicario returns near the end of February. The young goalkeeper had a good start to life in London but has conceded seven goals in his last three games.

Tottenham welcomed Micky van de Ven back against Elfsborg, The 23-year-old had only made one appearance since October and will provide some much-needed quality to the Lilywhites’ backline. With the Dutchman preferring to operate on the left of defence, Archie Gray moved to right centre-back with Ben Davies at left-back. Pedro Porro continued at right-back and will likely be the first to be rested whenever Spurs get some defensive relief.

Pape Matar Sarr continued to fight through a knock to play the full 90 minutes against Elfsborg. Another player whose minutes will be raising concerns among Tottenham’s sports scientists is Lucas Bergvall. The 18-year-old has been an ever-present as of late as Spurs midfielders continue to drop like flies. Rodrigo Bentancur did get a deserved break when he was taken off at half-time for Yves Bissouma.

Mikey Moore scored his first Tottenham goal, making the most of an opportunity to start with Dejan Kulusevski rested. Richarlison’s 81 minutes were the most the Brazilian striker has managed since returning from injury. Heung-min Son played well in the first half before being substituted at half-time.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Recent Form and Tactics

Tottenham had a terrible start to 2025 but ended the first month on a high note with a win over Elfsborg. The Lilywhites lost all four of their Premier League matches and will be glad to see the back of January. Their form was inexcusable, losing to relegation-threatened Everton and Leicester City. They will start February needing to improve on their 15th place in the league.

The win over Elfsborg saw some youngsters take centre stage. Dane Scarlett, Moore, and Oyindamola Ajayi scored as the the tea, secured their place in the last 16. All three will be hoping for another opportunity to shine against Brentford. With Postecoglou still missing at least seven players for the trip across London, the academy may get another chance to steal the headlines.

Injuries and Suspension To Consider

As soon as Tottenham got one centre-back fit, another was hit with the injury bug, Radu Dragusin was taken off 20 minutes after replacing the returning Van de Ven against Elfsborg. Djed Spence should also return after missing the Leicester game with injury. Postecoglou will finally have a decision to make regarding his backline, choosing either Gray or Davies to partner Van de Ven.
