Tottenham Hotspur are now likely to lose defender Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid in the upcoming transfer window, according to a report from talkSPORT.

Romero moved to Spurs back in 2021, initially joining the club on a season-long loan. The north London club turned the loan deal into a permanent after an impressive start to life at Tottenham, and he's become a key player ever since under a host of different managers.

Despite his impressive form, a departure in the summer transfer window appears to be a possibility. There's a strong chance Tottenham will be without European football next season, unless they win the Europa League, which could see some of their star players seek moves away from the club.

Romero to Leave Tottenham This Summer

He's likely to join Atletico Madrid

According to a report from talkSPORT, Romero is likely to join Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window. Spurs are eyeing a possible move for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen as a result, but they face plenty of competition to secure his signature.

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a departure was possible for Romero, but it would have to be an important financial package for Daniel Levy to allow him to head through the exit door.

Romero has been criticised for his recent behaviour at Tottenham after he stormed straight down the tunnel after the final whistle against Wolves. Tottenham suffered a disappointing defeat, with Romero given a 3/10 rating by writer Alasdair Gold, and he refused to stick around to show his appreciation to the supporters.

Romero, who has been described as 'world-class' by team-mate Micky van de Ven, might not be the only player departing, with Richarlison reportedly likely to leave in the summer window.
