Spurs take on The Foxes at the Gaughan Group Stadium in their first game of the calendar year.

Leicester City are in 11th place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table having won just once in the first half of the season. They’ve also scored just three times. Despite the East Midlands club’s struggles, Spurs boss Vilahamn knows that they could still cause his side problems on their day.

“You can tell that they have a very knowledgable coach who has created a good identity for the team,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They had a great game against Chelsea before the break and got a draw.

“They’re good in defence but they’re not bad in-possession either. They have some really good players but haven’t really nailed the goalscoring. A player like [Jutta] Rantala was really important for them last season.

“I see a team that’s a good team, they’re not a bottom of the table team that cannot perform. They can hurt us, defend very well but I also see us taking steps now, so I hope we can come to this game and show that we are a team that can dictate a game, create chances but still defend because they have some quality players in their starting XI and in their squad.

“It’s going to be interesting to see where we are after not playing for a month.”

The race is on for places in the top half of the Barclays Women’s Super League table and Vilahamn says that three points would be important for pushing his side closer to the clubs above.

He said “Result-wise in the table, it’s an important game. If you win the game, you can take a step away from the teams below you. Self-confidence-wise it’s also good to start with a win because we have a lot of games coming up.

“The result is important but if we lose, we have another game on Wednesday. It’s just going to be nice playing again after a month without games.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets will be available to purchase at the Gaughan Group Stadium ahead of the game.

After scraping past non league side Tamworth after extra time, Tottenham Hotspur were drawn against Premier League side Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup. We knew that the game would take place between the 7th and 10th of February, but without knowing which day.

Fans were particularly curious considering the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Liverpool is to take place on Thursday, the 6th of February. It has now been confirmed that the tie with Villa is to take place on Sunday, the 9th of February - putting to rest any concerns that Spurs would have to play two days later. The game will be shown live on BBC One and on iPlayer for those in the UK.

Interestingly, and perhaps weirdly - the game at Villa will kick off at the extremely lesser spotted 17:35 slot, which has lead to a lot of confusion from both sets of fans. Some have wondered why the game couldn't be played on the Monday night slot, with the game set to take place < 72 hours after the Carabao Cup tie.

However, there is something else to consider. Given we saw Spurs pick up two points from three games against Galatasaray, Roma, and Rangers - they may well only finish in the play-off positions in the Europa League. If that is the case, they will play the first leg of their play-off tie on the 13th of February - three days after that said Monday.

Furthermore, Liverpool - the Carabao Cup opponents - play their game at 3pm, two 1/2 hours before, and with much more travelling. Albeit, that is caveated by the fact they have a much weaker opponent in Plymouth Argyle.

Back to the Europa League point - February could be even crazier than January if Spurs do have a play-off tie. They could play on the; 2nd, 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, and 26th. Eight games in 24 days. They would be scheduled to play Ipswich Town two days after their second leg, though ideally that would be moved to one of the non televised 14:00 Sunday slots.

Pretty safe to say that Spurs are going to need to go all out in the cups to salvage the season. As frustrating as the league form is, and there are some things that are still not excusable, the cup competitions are absolutely paramount at this point. With the current squad, Spurs cannot go full throttle in every competition, so the league becomes the least important one.

Kinský To Start Again? | Predicted 4-3-3 Tottenham Hotspur Lineup To Face Everton | OneFootball

The pressure must be mounting on Ange Postecoglou following Tottenham Hotspur’s midweek defeat against Arsenal in the North London derby. They have dropped to 14th spot in the Premier League standings and a setback against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon could further jeopardize Postecoglou’s future as the Spurs chief.

Tottenham grabbed a commanding 4-0 win when they hosted the Toffees in the early weeks of the 2024-25 season. However, several injury woes and the Aussie boss’s lack of adaptability led to a downfall in recent months. The Toffees, battling for survival yet again, have brought David Moyes back as Sean Dyche’s successor. The Scotsman is now desperate to turn things around despite a defeat against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The absence of Guglielmo Vicario is a significant blow for the Lilywhites who roped in Antonín Kinský earlier this window. The young Czech custodian, known for his ball-playing ability, is expected to keep his place ahead of Brandon Austin. Fraser Forster is a doubt due to illness and Kinský, therefore, must exhibit more composure between the sticks after a nervy outing against the Gunners.

Pedro Porro has been consistent down the right as he has balanced his game between defence and attack. Long-term Injuries to Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Micky van de Ven have left the Aussie gaffer with Radu Drăgușin as the only senior centre-half available for selection. Teenage sensation Archie Gray has been exquisite in the heart of the backline, also, a hamstring injury has ruled Destiny Udogie out thus allowing Djed Spence to feature as a left fullback over Sergio Reguilón.

While Rodrigo Bentancur remains sidelined following a head injury sustained against Liverpool in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal, Yves Bissouma must step up and deliver as the deep-lying playmaker. Pape Sarr should showcase his box-to-box traits, and so is 18-year-old Lucas Bergvill, who has impressed with his passion, energy and skillset. James Maddison could be introduced as a second-half substitute similar to the Emirates clash.

Despite the absence of Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner, Tottenham have depth and flexibility high up the pitch. Dominic Solanke should get the nod over Richarlison to spearhead the attack, but the mediocrity of skipper Son Heung-min has been a concern for the Lilywhites down the left-hand flank. Dejan Kulusevski has made an impact from the right, and it is high time for the South Korean veteran to exhibit his excellence in and around the attacking third. Brennan Johnson could also be involved as a ‘super sub’ along with Maddison and Richarlison.

Saturday is now looking to be a huge fixture for Tottenham Hotspur, as they are desperate to get their Premier League form up and running again, after a good performance against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Semi-Final first leg, and an unconvincing performance but a win nonetheless against non league Tamworth in the FA Cup, it was a defeat in the league again as Spurs lost to their arch rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

After initially leading through captain Heung-Min Son's volley, the Gunners pulled it back to come out 2-1 winners over the Lilywhites, leaving Spurs with just one point from their last five league games, and five from their last twenty seven available to them, with the only win since the incredible 0-4 away at Manchester City coming at Southampton in mid December.

So this weekend is a good chance to put things right, at an Everton side who are also really out of form, picking up just one win in their last twelve outings, including Wednesday nights 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa, which saw Scotsman David Moyes take charge of the Blues for the first time since 2013. Moyes is back in charge and he has one job, to keep Everton in the Premier League for when they head to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in the summer.

Everton's biggest problem is simply putting the ball in the back of the net, with just one goal in their last six Premier League games, and just fifteen all season. On the other hand, however, Spurs cannot defend, conceding 32 in the league this season, leaving them with the 13th worst defence, which is absolutely nowhere near good enough.

Yes of course injuries play a part, and having to constantly change the backline can be disruptive in terms of not playing with each other enough to know each other's game, but that is still nowhere near the standard a club like Spurs should expect.

Spurs are still without a number of players, key assets like Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero all still look to be sidelined. Antonin Kinsky looks likely to keep place after he impressed, albeit being on the losing side, during his Premier League debut away at Arsenal midweek.

Meanwhile, Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson are doubts for the game, making Spurs' injury list ever more depleted. Should Johnson miss this game, it would be his first absence since October 2023.

Everton are still without Tim Ireogbunam, Dwight McNeil and Youssef Chermiti, as well as the likes of Armando Broja and James Garner still being a doubt. McNeil certainly is a big loss for the Toffees at the moment, with three goals and three assists so far this season, he is a player who could very much suit a Moyes side for when he comes back. He has a set-piece delivery on him and we know exactly how dangerous a Moyes team can be from them.

Even without the winger, the Blues still have some big players that are always a threat, such as James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, so Spurs better do their homework for Sundays game.

The game is being played on Sunday at 14:00 GMT, and is being broadcasted in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

“They’ll Build Him a Statue” – Former Tottenham Hotspur Manager Makes Bold Ange Postecoglou Claim | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has come under some serious scrutiny over the past couple of months, with his side sitting down in 13th place in the Premier League table and level on points with struggling Crystal Palace.

Only Liverpool have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Spurs too, which really highlights their defensive frailties. However, Postecoglou has struggled massively with injuries to key players such as Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Richarlison.

Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on Postecoglou’s situation…

“It’s a difficult situation, but he knows that comes with managing Tottenham Hotspur,” began Sherwood, “It’s a big talking point, especially when he is so charismatic.” There’s a long list of Premier League managers who came to the league with plenty of charm and charisma, only to have the media flip the narrative quickly. Just look at the likes of Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp, for example…

“Under Conte, Mourinho and Nuno, they struggled because the fans weren’t entertained,” continued Sherwood, “If there’s one thing that Ange [Postecoglou] guarantees, then it’s entertainment. There’s never a bad Tottenham Hotspur game!”

Whether it’s high-scoring games, beautiful football or refereeing controversy, Spurs seem to have it all under Postecoglou. However, the need for consistency remains…

“You still need that level of consistency though,” said Sherwood, “But they still have a great chance of winning the Carabao Cup and the Europa League is a real opportunity too.” Spurs currently hold a 1-0 lead over Liverpool going into the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield, whilst also expected to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League over the next few weeks.

“Top six has to be the target for them to hit at the end of the season,” continued Sherwood, “They’re capable of hitting that, as well as lifting a trophy this season!”

“If they do win a trophy, then they will build him a statue outside of the stadium!” claimed Sherwood.

Next month would mark 17 years since Spurs last won a trophy, winning the League Cup with a victory over Chelsea in the 2008 final. Postecoglou hasn’t hid away his expectation to lift a trophy this season, constantly bringing it up in press conferences and emphasising it as his priority.

The second leg of the Carabao Cup will be really tricky at Anfield against a really strong Liverpool side, but they won’t have a better opportunity than this in a long while…

One of the fiercest rivalries in Europe is renewed when Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.

Just three days after being bounced from the FA Cup by Manchester United, Arsenal must win against their bitter rivals to restore confidence moving forward. Mikel Arteta's squad, particularly in attack, is thin with Gabriel Jesus suffering an ACL injury in the cup. Bukayo Saka continues to recover from a hamstring injury leaving just Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz as the attacking options.

Liverpool dropping points to Nottingham Forest once again provides an opportunity for Arsenal to close the gap to the top while taking back control of second place. Anything other than a win would be dire.

Here's how Arsenal could look come the north London derby on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Arsenal Predicted Lineup vs. Tottenham Hotspur (4-3-3)

GK: David Raya—Raya was heavily criticized for his performance in the penalty shootout of the FA Cup.

LB: Kieran Tierney—With Riccardo Calafiori a question mark and Myles Lewis-Skelly having played in the FA Cup three days ago, Tierney gets a start in the derby.

CB: Gabriel—Gabriel must dominate on set pieces to allievate Arsenal's goal scoring woes.

CB: William Saliba—Saliba pairs Gabriel once again looking to keep a clean sheet.

RB: Jurrien Timber—Timber starts once again.

CM: Mikel Merino—Merino starts on the left side of midfield looking to dominate and shut out and transitional attacks from Spurs.

CM: Declan Rice—Rice starts as the midfield anchor.

CM: Martin Ødegaard—The captain has to be better and either facilitate more for the attackers, or get in on the scoring.

RW: Leandro Trossard—Trossard starts on the right flank considering his ability to play with both feet.

LW: Gabriel Martinelli—Martinelli gets the nod on the left.
