Tottenham have confirmed the latest transfer move ahead of a busy final few weeks of the window

Tottenham have confirmed that defender Emerson Royal has left the club to join AC Milan after it became clear that he wasn’t a primary part of Ange Postecoglou's plans going forward.

The 25-year-old's move marks the end of his three-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Signed in the summer of 2021 when Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge, Emerson featured regularly under both Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Emerson was a key member under Conte, but he has since become the second choice to Pedro Porro, who has been the preferred option under Postecoglou. Despite this, Emerson managed to make 24 appearances under the Australian manager, mostly as a makeshift centre-back.

A Tottenham statement confirmed his departure: “We have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Emerson Royal. The right-back joined the club in August 2021 from Barcelona and made his debut the following month in a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.

“Emerson made a total of 101 appearances in our colours, scoring four goals, and in May 2024, reached the century milestone for the club when he featured for us against Liverpool at Anfield. The 25-year-old has 10 caps for Brazil after making his senior debut in November 2019. We wish Emerson all the best for the future."

Tottenham are looking to move in a different direction, having shown ambition by signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke this summer, as well as Archie Gray from Leeds earlier in the summer.

Timo Werner, who was out on loan last season, will also get another chance to impress before the club decides on his future.

Tottenham’s manager had been keen on a striker, and the signing of Solanke signals that the club is backing him as they seek to re-establish Spurs as a top-four side. Solanke, who scored 22 goals last season, is expected to replace captain Harry Kane, who left the club last summer to join Bayern Munich.
