Tottenham star now appears three times in the top four for impressive stat

One Tottenham man is already breaking Premier League records despite only arriving in England just over 12 months ago. He now has his name in the top four of one stat three times!

A force of nature

The player we are referring to is Micky van de Ven, who continues to amaze everyone in the Premier League with his electric pace and acceleration.

The 23-year-old is a unique athlete as he is somehow able to glide across the pitch despite having such a large frame, standing at 6 feet 3 inches.

Van de Ven doesn’t just bail Tottenham out defensively with his pace but he is also able to use it to devastating effect going forward, having already produced two outstanding assists this season.

Micky Van de Ven – Record breaker

According to the Premier League’s official website, Van de Ven’s sprint at Old Trafford in the third minute of Tottenham’s 3-0 win is the fourth fastest-ever record speed in the Premier League.

Astoundingly, it is revealed that the Tottenham defender is responsible for three of the four fastest speeds recorded by a player in the division despite being in England for just over a year.

The fastest of those is the one he set against Brentford in January of this year, being clocked in at 37.38 kilometres per hour.

Tottenham’s most important player?

One can argue that Van de Ven is now Spurs’ most important player, given the way Ange Postecoglou’s men play. The central defender’s pace allows the Lilywhites to press high up the pitch without having to worry about balls over the top.

It is no coincidence that Spurs conceded two goals to counter-attacks against Newcastle last month when Van de Ven was out with an injury.

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a substantial financial boost over the next couple of weekends as their stadium gets ready to host a major sporting event, TBR Football reveal.

Tottenham’s stadium is a money minter

Tottenham’s stadium was designed with a retractable pitch, which allows the club to host other sporting events and concerts in close time proximity to Spurs games.

That is not something that other clubs across the Premier League can do, thus giving the Lilywhites a big financial advantage.

In addition, the stadium was also designed to be accommodating of NFL games, with the venue emerging as the home of American football in the UK.

Tottenham set for windfall

TBR Football have now revealed that Spurs are set for a huge financial boost as they will host two NFL matches at their stadium over the next two weekends.

The New York Jets will face the Minnesota Vikings this Saturday, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguar’s clash with the Chicago Bears a week later.

According to the outlet, given the hosting fee and the revenue from food and drink sales in those two matches, Tottenham are set to generate close to £8m.

Levy is unapologetic about hosting events

It was put to Daniel Levy in the recently held fan forum that Tottenham were in danger of becoming an entertainment brand first and a football club second.

The Spurs chairman rejected that claim, insisting that he will not apologise for trying to generate more revenue through the events that can be pumped into the football team.

He said: “We’re about providing the resources for our teams to win. And we don’t make any apologies that we’re trying to increase our revenue base so we can invest more in our teams.

“If that means we have the opportunity because of this great stadium to have concerts, that’s great because we’re giving it all to the teams. I don’t apologise at all. I think it’s good.”

Ange Postecoglou placed his faith in Tottenham’s youth against Ferencvaros, starting four teenagers in the 2-1 win – although the coach is not a fan of the potential new nickname given to his team.

Tottenham started four teenagers on Thursday

Spurs continued their fine run form of late against Ferencvaros on Thursday as goals from Pape Sarr and Brennan Johnson meant Tottenham’s win streak extended to five.

Many fans were excited about Postecoglou’s youthful line-up in Budapest with Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall all handed starts.

It was the first time Tottenham had fielded four teenagers in a major UEFA competition since 2009, when a 19-year-old Gareth Bale featured. (OptaJoe)

Postecoglou has laughed off Spurs’ new nickname

Following Tottenham’s victory, Ange Postecoglou was told of a potential new name for his young group of players as a journalist questioned:

“Ange, we’ve had the Busby Babes and the Fergie’s Fledglings – are those four teenagers Ange’s Angels?”

Postecoglou laughed off the suggestion, chuckling: “No, no, no… you’ve got to do better than that mate. No, no chance!” (HaytersTV)

Tottenham’s new generation

I’m sure as much as Ange Postecoglou shot down the idea of his youngsters being given a nickname, he would certainly welcome performances akin to ‘Fergie’s fledglings’.

Moore in particular shone on Thursday but Spurs appears to slowly be rediscovering their previous tendency to become a breeding ground for some of football’s most exciting youngsters. Take us back to the days of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, and Danny Rose.

Tottenham Hotspur owe Djurgardens a sizeable sum after Lucas Bergvall’s impressive start to life in North London, Fotboll Direkt reveal.

Bergvall has not disappointed

Bergvall arrived at Spurs with a huge reputation, with many back in Sweden considering him to be one of the best young footballers to come out of the country over recent years.

Many might have not expected Bergvall to make an instant impact at Tottenham, given the huge leap in quality from Allsvenskan and the Premier League.

However, the 18-year-old has hardly put a foot wrong in his first few months at Spurs, impressing every single time he has got an opportunity.

Tottenham owe an additional fee

Fotboll Direkt now point out that while Spurs paid £8m to sign Bergvall in the summer, they now have to pay more to Djurgardens following his Premier League debut.

It is asserted that the Swedish club are now owed an additional £2.5m-£3m from Tottenham as some bonuses have been triggered.

The outlet points out that if all the add-ons are met over the coming months and years, the total fee for the midfielder could rise to £16m.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, not all of the fee will go to Djurgardens, with the report pointing out that Bergvall’s former club, Brommapojkarna, would be owed around 20 per cent.

Spurs will be happy to pay

One would imagine that Tottenham would not be too disappointed if they do end up paying £16m as that would mean that Bergvall has fulfilled his potential and been a successful signing.

In Ange Postecoglou, the teenager has the ideal man in charge to aid his development, with the Australian coach’s system allowing players to express themselves on the pitch.

Bergvall could have an important role to play in Tottenham’s cup runs and in the Europa League this season.

After rumours linking Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero to Real Madrid, it has now emerged that Los Blancos are eyeing a move for another Tottenham player.

Van de Ven and Romero on Madrid’s radar

It was widely reported that Madrid explored a move for Romero in the summer but were scared off by Daniel Levy’s exorbitant demands (TEAMtalk).

Over the last few days, some sources have suggested that the La Liga giants are also keeping a close on Van de Ven and have been impressed by his development at Spurs (Defensa Central).

It now appears that Carlo Ancelotti’s man have their eye on a third player from Tottenham’s defensive line.

Porro in their sights

CaughtOffisde allege that Madrid are considering a move for Pedro Porro if they fail to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.

It is pointed out that Alexander-Arnold remains their top right-back target, with the Reds star now into the final year of his deal at Anfield, but should that move not be possible, they are prepared to turn their attention to the Spurs man.

Ancelotti is said to be an admirer of Porro and allegedly sees him as a ‘strong alternative’ to the England international.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham fearful

The outlet claims that Spurs are fearful that they could lose the Spaniard if Real Madrid turn his head with a tempting offer to move back to his homeland.

It is asserted that it could take an offer of around €65m to get Porro out of the North London club and take him to the Spanish capital.

However, the publication adds that Madrid’s interest in Porro might simply be a smokescreen intended to force Trent’s hand to push for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Reports in Spain reveal that Real Madrid have now set their sights on another one of Tottenham’s emerging stars after their unsuccessful efforts to sign Cristian Romero this summer.

Madrid attempts snubbed by Spurs

It was widely reported that Real Madrid were keen on securing Romero in the summer and even made advances towards the Spurs vice-captain.

However, when Los Blancos came knocking for the Tottenham man, Daniel Levy reportedly quoted them a price of £150m, which scared away the Spanish giants (TEAMtalk).

It has now emerged that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have turned their attention to Romero’s defensive partner, Micky van de Ven.

Van de Ven now in Madrid’s sights

According to a report from Defensa Central (as relayed by Fichajes), Madrid are looking to add a centre-back to their squad and are fans of the Dutchman.

It is suggested that the La Liga club’s chief scout, Juni Calafat, has been impressed by the 23-year-old’s development and is continuing to keep an eye on his performances.

However, the publication makes it clear that at the moment, Tottenham have no intention of selling either of their two starting central defenders.

Tottenham will not budge

If it is true that Spurs demanded £150m for Romero, they could well demand an even higher fee for Van de Ven, given his age and his unique attributes.

Ange Postecoglou provides update on Richarlison

Description

Injuries to key players proved to be costly for Tottenham Hotspur last season when their campaign took a turn for the worse in November.

Tottenham need to avoid an injury crisis this season

It was no surprise that the injuries suffered by Micky van de Ven and James Maddison correlated with a significant downturn in form for Ange Postecoglou’s side, and he will be hoping to avoid anything similar this season.

Spurs captain Heung-min Son became the latest casualty this season when he suffered a hamstring issue in the 3-0 win over Qarabag, joining the likes of Richarlison on the sidelines.

Destiny Udogie was forced off at half time when Tottenham beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday and was not risked against Ferencvaros in midweek, however, it is hopeful that the defender will return against Brighton.

Ange Postecoglou delivers update on Richarlison

Ange Postecoglou has offered an encouraging update on the fitness of Richarlison, who has been out of action since featuring in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Everton in August.

The Brazilian has been seen back on the grass at the club’s Hotspur Way training facility as he builds up his fitness following his calf issue.

The Spurs boss told Football.London: “He’s going well. Hopefully post-international break we’ll get him involved in team training.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Richarlison faces competition for game time within the Tottenham first-team squad following the arrival of Dominic Solanke in the transfer window, with Postecoglou looking forward to having more options at his disposal.

He added: “I would love that. It’s exactly what we want. That was the plan at the start of the year and then you end up, second game of the season, neither of them is available.

“We’ve got a hell of a lot of games and we want to be competitive in all of them.

“I can’t wait to get Richy back available. When he played for us last year and was fit, he scored goals. To have him and Dom as our strikers – and Richy can play wide as well – can’t wait to get him back.

“His recent history over the last two or three years is that he hasn’t been able to sustain it, he’s broken down. What we’re trying to do this time around is do everything right so that when he comes back, he stays back. That’s the key with Richy and hopefully that is the case.”

Richarlison needs to try to avoid injuries

Injuries have always been Richarlison’s downfall during his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, just when he looks to be building up some consistency in front of goal, he has found himself back on the treatment table.

Sandro is 'not happy' that Chelsea have beaten Spurs to exciting wonderkid

Description

While Tottenham may have found a few young gems in the transfer market over the last couple of years, there is one player that Sandro believes the Lilywhites missed a trick on, and he’s annoyed that Chelsea got there first.

Spurs should have signed Brazilian starlet

Obviously, Spurs have scouts all over the world looking for the best young talent to feed into their own pipeline. The problem is, so do other clubs, and sometimes a rising star can be missed, or sometimes they will decide to join a different project.

Chelsea have a knack for unearthing great young players, particularly in South America, a region Tottenham have not always had the most luck in.

The Blues snapped up Willian Estevao this summer, but the 17-year-old will not arrive at Stamford Bridge until next year. He’s having a brilliant season in Brazil with Palmeiras though, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in the league so far (Transfermarkt).

But, for Sandro, this prodigious talent should not be planning his future with Chelsea, he should be heading to Tottenham.

Speaking to PL Brasil, the former Spurs midfielder said: “All I can say about Estevão Willian is that Spurs should have bought him first. I’m not happy that he signed for Chelsea, but he’s the kind of player who can change Brazil’s future.”

Is Estevao ready for the Premier League?

Naturally, any player so young will be questioned as to his readiness to compete in the English top flight, but Sandro has no concerns about his teenage compatriot.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He added: “He’s a top player and I think he’s ready to play in the Premier League, as long as Chelsea give him time to find his best level and take the next step.

“He is a great player and has shown in recent years that he can face players, shoot and is very skilled. He is an exciting player to watch. There is a huge difference between football in Brazil and the Premier League, but if he trains hard, he could be one of the best players for Chelsea and Brazil.”

Postecoglou reacts to Maddison's latest England snub despite great Spurs form

Ange Postecoglou says that James Maddison is doing everything in his power to get back into the England squad.

Bittersweet news for Spurs fans

The England squad announcement contained some bittersweet for Spurs fans as Dominic Solanke made it into the team for the first time in seven years but Maddison missed out.

The attacking midfielder has been in sensational form this campaign, having rediscovered his mojo following a difficult end to last season.

The 27-year-old has not just been at his creative best but has also been helping Spurs build out from the back, operating in a slightly deeper role this season.

Postecoglou reacts to Maddison snub

However, the Tottenham vice-captain has not done enough to force himself back into the Three Lions set-up, with Lee Carsley looking past him once again.

Postecoglou insists that Maddison has done what he can, remarking that the circumstances are beyond his control.

When asked about the former Leicester man missing out, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “I’m sure he is disappointed. He’s playing well, but sometimes that is all you can do. Sometimes there are certain circumstances that mean you can’t always get what you want.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Intense competition for places

One can argue that the attacking midfield role is where England are most heavily stacked, with Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer all shoo-ins in the squad.

Carsley also appears to be a fan of Jack Grealish, which is why both Maddison and Eberechi Eze have missed out this time.

However, if the Tottenham man continues performing as well as he has been so far this season, it is going to be impossible to keep him out of the squad for long.

Johan Lange explains his role at Spurs, and how involved Postecoglou is in transfers

Submitted by daniel on

Description

We are now approaching a year since Johan Lange joined Tottenham Hotspur as their technical director, and he’s largely operated from behind the scenes during that time. But, he’s spoken now about how that might change, and how much Ange Postecoglou has a say in transfer strategy, too.

Lange plans to step out of the shadows

Much has changed at Tottenham over the last couple of years. Fabio Paratici’s global ban from football sparked the need for an overhaul in the scouting and recruiting department at Tottenham, but the club’s successful transfer record of late has been maintained with effective signings over the summer.

Spurs moved swiftly and shrewdly in the summer market to sign Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, and the more high-profile Dominic Solanke.

Discussing how he operates within the club, and how his role may evolve in the near future, Johan Lange reflected on the ways of the past and how the demands of modern football now call for something different from a man in his position.

He told TV 3 Sport: “[The lack of public comments] is undoubtedly cultural… In the old days, there was a local rich man who owned his local club, and he hired his manager, and then they met on Friday afternoon for a cup of tea, and then they turned the world upside down and found out how the team was supposed to play the next day, and what kind of players they had to buy.

“But you could say it’s about changing a culture, it’s not something that happens overnight. It takes time, but I think you’re starting to see sports directors and technical directors in the clubs be a bit more in the media as well, and I think you’ll see that more in the future.”

Postecoglou is key to transfer talk

There is always a concern that, when there are technical directors and the sort involved in a club, a manager can be excluded from important decisions when it comes to transfers.

MORE SPURS STORIES

There should be no such fear at Spurs, though, as Lange explains the way he and Ange Postecoglou collaborate to determine the short-term and long-term future of the squad.

He added: “It’s not like, you can just put it in a formula and say, well then it’s me who makes the decision at that point. It’s about discussing different topics over months and weeks, and then of course you arrive with a shorter list, and then you discuss back and forth.

“It’s about a process where we end up agreeing, that this is our top target. We discuss our performance and the game, but Ange and his coaches are the ones who work with the game and the players, for everyday life, and prepare the team for matches.

“And then my role is more to concentrate on the longer term, and ensure that we are successful, not only this year, but also in three years, in five years.”

The system seems to be working at Spurs

There appears to be a real cohesion and clear strategy at Spurs right now, with the owners, the higher-ups like Lange, the coaches, and the players all pulling in the same direction. I don’t want to get carried away, but everything I see and hear from within the club tells me we are destined for great things very soon, and for a long time beyond that, too.
