Tottenham now need a big result against Manchester City in the Premier League, as they travel to the Etihad needing one of those performances where they have to be at their best. The problem with Spurs has been their inconsistent performances against what some people call "smaller teams"—they drew against Leicester, lost to Crystal Palace, Brighton, and Ipswich.

Then, the home defeat to Arsenal was also a blow, but they have had big wins as well, including victories over Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Manchester City in the League Cup, showing they can win when the stakes are incredibly high.

The international break came at the wrong time for Postecoglou, who had players leaving for international duty after the home defeat to Ipswich. Even though he stayed behind to train those who did not have international commitments, there was barely any time to respond to the defeat and analyze it properly. The good news is that he’s had two weeks to work out how he can approach the Manchester City game at the training ground.

So, ahead of the game, LondonWorld has been doing its homework and speaking to people around the club to try and find out how the Australian manager might set up against Pep Guardiola’s side, and has come up with the team we expect him to name.

Guglielmo Vicario

The Italian goalkeeper has his critics, but there’s no denying that he’s a very good shot stopper, even if he can be susceptible to corners and set pieces in general. He does the job.

Pedro Porro

The thing about Porro is that he’s an unbelievable full-back, ideal for the way Postecoglou wants to play. So much so, that when he’s not there, not many can fill in and do a decent job.

Cristian Romero

The Argentine centre-back was forced off in his final international match and will arrive in north London later to be assessed. However, he’s one of the players the manager always plays when he’s fit, so you’d expect it will take a massive blow for him not to be involved.

Radu Dragusin

He had an afternoon to forget when Spurs faced Ipswich, but with Mickey Van de Ven injured, he will step in again. Postecoglou will take his time to explain every detail to him to ensure he has a good game.

Destiny Udogie

Udogie hasn't been as electric as he was last season, but he is still the trusted left-back of the team. When he’s good, he’s very good, even though that hasn’t been the case in most games this season.

Yves Bissouma

The suspension of Rodrigo Bentancur means Bissouma gets a straight pass into the game. The manager normally prefers either the Uruguayan or the Malian at the base of his three-man midfield.

Dejan Kulusevski

The Swede has worked his way into the midfield now and is one of the most important players in the way Tottenham play.

Pape Sarr

Sarr is either a hit or miss, and the manager will deploy him as he looks for legs that can sustain the kind of press needed to wrestle the ball away from Manchester City’s players.

Son Heung-min

One of the advantages the break provided is that captain Son Heung-min had more time to recover. It’s been a stop-start season for him, but hopefully, now he can find consistency.

Brennan Johnson

His turnaround has been remarkable—from being on the outside looking in to now being almost undroppable.

Dominic Solanke

The English striker will return from international duty knowing that he must start being incredibly consistent. Against Villa, he showed how good he can be, but now he needs to do it on a consistent basis.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has around five players out injured ahead of next weekend's game against Manchester City. The Lilywhites will be looking for a response after a surprising 2-1 defeat to Ipswich in the Premier League, which came just after the final international break of the season.

Richarlison is a major doubt for the Manchester City game after picking up an injury while coming off the bench in Tottenham's match against Aston Villa. Timo Werner has also been sidelined for a while due to injury, leaving the Spurs boss short of attacking options.

Micky Moore is unwell, but there is a good chance he could recover in time for the match if Postecoglou decides to call on him. However, the biggest loss is undoubtedly the electric Micky van de Ven, who was one of the best performers for the Australian manager last season. Van de Ven sustained a hamstring injury and is now racing against time to be fit for the crucial trip to the Etihad next weekend. In his absence, Postecoglou will likely have to choose between Radu Drăgușin, who struggled in the loss to Ipswich, or the experienced Ben Davies, with the latter possibly being deployed in a back three.

Spurs will be hoping for a positive result in a game that is shaping up to be a massive test, especially since City are also struggling, having failed to win in their last four matches across all competitions.

Latest injury blow:

In what will undoubtedly be another setback for Postecoglou, Spurs have confirmed that £30 million summer signing Wilson Odobert has undergone surgery on his right hamstring. The club did not specify when he would return. A club statement, released on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), read: "We can confirm that Wilson Odobert underwent surgery on his right hamstring yesterday (Saturday, November 16). The 19-year-old will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training."

Injuries always present a puzzle for managers, and how they adapt to these challenges often plays a crucial role in determining their team's performance.

Tottenham and West Ham have both been linked to Nuremberg striker Stefanos Tzimas, who is on loan at the Bundesliga 2 club from Greek side PAOK where he began his footballing career in the youth academy.

He joined Nuremberg on loan in the summer and has since made nine league appearances, scoring five goals and providing one assist. The Greek youngster has been tipped to become a star in the future which is why there is said to be significant Premier League interest in him.

However, according to SportBILD via Sport Witness, amid interest from Spurs and West Ham, Nuremberg are looking to sign Tzimas on a permanent deal from PAOK as there is a £15m buy clause in his loan deal, with a view to then flipping the player soon afterwards to make a tidy profit.

The hope for Nuremberg is that they can sell Tzimas for over £17m to ensure a healthy profit - a fee should be more than affordable for most Premier League clubs.

Spurs and West Ham face Premier League competition to sign Tzimas

The Greece U21s striker isn’t just courted by West Ham and Spurs as the report from SportBILD also suggests that Newcastle United are keen on the 18-year-old, which could prompt a bidding war between the three sides.

However, it could also be an option that Nuremberg isn’t able to afford the £15m buy-out clause, and so the likes of West Ham and Spurs would have to pursue Tzimas from his parent club in PAOK who are competing in the Europa League this season alongside Ange Postecogou’s Tottenham.

They recently played against Manchester United and lost 2-0 to a Ruud Van Nistelrooy-led side. The United interim boss left Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim has taken over but he is now one of the favourites to take over should West Ham decide to sack Julen Lopetegui.

It is not clear yet as to whether the Premier League teams would be prepared to pay £17m or more for the Tzimas, as his current market value is only estimated to be around £1.5m. However due to his potential, if they remain interested then Nuremberg will be prepared to pay the hefty £15m buy-out clause.

Tottenham have reached an agreement to bring Yang Min-hyeok from his club in South Korea next month, ahead of his planned move in January, according to a report on Football.London.

The South Korean was signed in the summer, but part of the deal allowed him to remain in South Korea until the winter transfer window. However, it's now reported that he will join earlier than expected, in December, although there will be no rush for him to join the team right away.

The idea is for him to have enough time to adapt and prepare for the second half of the season.Spurs agreed a £3.3million deal with the South Korean club for his signature, and the figure is widely reported to be a record deal for a player coming from the K-League.

He will also have the support of the club’s captain, Son Heung-min, who is likely to help him settle in.Yang has been impressive since signing for Tottenham, scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists in 37 K-League matches while playing on either the left or right wing.

He could be the difference in a team that has been incredibly inconsistent. Spurs have scored 23 league goals, which is more than any other team in the league, but they are currently 10th in the table.

The problem seems to be their inconsistency against lower-ranked teams. While they’ve performed well against top sides, as seen in their wins against Manchester City and Aston Villa, they could only draw against Leicester on the opening day of the Premier League.

They also threw away a two-goal lead against Brighton, lost to a previously winless Crystal Palace, and suffered a defeat to Ipswich Town.

Postecoglou could certainly use some firepower up front, and the fact that Yang will join earlier than expected should help him adapt and potentially be ready for game time as soon as possible.

London trio Crystal Palace, Tottenham and West Ham are all said to be interested in snapping up an emerging talent. It has been an underwhelming campaign for all three of those clubs so far this season, with Palace still stuck on one win and in danger of being sucked into a relegation battle.

Tottenham remain in touching distance of the top four, but largely thanks to inconsistencies from their rivals given the number of times they have already slipped up, including a defeat to newly promoted Ipswich Town over the weekend. As for the Hammers, Julen Lopetegui has had a tough time impressing fans during his first season, with the Hammers having only won three games, stuck in the bottom half of the table.

All three clubs could be on the lookout for new signings, if not in January then certainly next summer. According to GIVEMESPORT, all three are interested in a deal to land Lens midfielder Andy Diouf. The 21-year-old has been with Lens since arriving from Basel last year, making 36 league appearances since.

Diouf is a France under-21s international, and he recently represented his nation as part of the Olympics team, making three appearances during the tournament. According to reports, Tottenham have already sent scouts to watch Diouf, specifically at Lens’ Conference League clash with Panathinaikos in August.

Meanwhile, West Ham could do with more legs in midfield, struggling in that area this season, while Palace have been left exposed with the injuries suffered by Adam Wharton and Jefferson Lerma in recent weeks and months. That could lead them to signing a new middle man in the not too distant future.

It’s unclear how much Lens will ask for Diouf, but the midfielder joined the French club for £11.6million last summer, and his stock has certainly risen since then. Transfermarkt value the midfielder at £7.5million, but actual market value is usually significantly more than such values due to the potential on offer, especially when it comes to young players.

Former West Ham and Everton manager Sam Allardyce has heaped praise on the work of Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke and Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin for their desires to bring back the traditional striker role.

It'll be no surprise to football fans to hear that Big Sam harbours nostalgia for a more old-fashioned form of football, featuring regularly on a podcast titled No Tippy Tappy Football. On a new episode, the 70-year-old sat down with Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

During the chat, Begovic was asked about the development of Dominic Solanke, who signed for Spurs on a huge £65 million deal this summer from AFC Bournemouth. The goalkeeper played with Solanke while with the Cherries and also knows the talisman from time at Chelsea.

Asmir Begovic: ‘Relegation was the best thing for Solanke’

Begovic said: "When he came to Bournemouth, the best thing that happened to him was Bournemouth getting relegated. He never had a run of games where he could play 30+ games in a season and develop as a player overall - his finishing, his runs, everything like that.

"In going to the Championship that year, I remember playing with him, it was the best thing that happened to him. That's when he really started to take the next step and get the trust in himself to be given the number nine shirt. That started his development and, three or four years of regular football, he moves to Tottenham."

Allardyce was in agreement with Begovic and went on to compare that experience to one had by one of his former players in Calvert-Lewin. The manager worked with the striker while at Goodison Park.

Chelsea were linked with a move for Calvert-Lewin this summer according to GIVEMESPORT, but were deterred by a £25 million asking price from the Merseyside outfit.

Big Sam explains POMO analogy

Big Sam said: "I talk the same about Dominic Calvert-Lewin when I was at Everton. There was absolutely nothing wrong with his play up to the box but his goal conversion was not happening. All of a sudden, when he gains more and more experience in the Premier League and working under Carlo Ancelotti, he became that goalscorer."

The duo went on to talk about the importance of crosses with Begovic admitting that the most danger a striker can pose him between the sticks is when they are waiting for a ball in the penalty box, the conversation inspired by Alexander Isak's goal against Chelsea earlier this month.

With a wry smile, Allardyce then asked the room if they understood the term 'POMO', which could be applied to both the strikers.

He said: "There's a POMO position in the box, you know that? Position of maximum opportunity. Go in there, find where the ball is and you'll start scoring goals.

"A lot about the POMO is not the first phase but the tap-in and being in the right spot, and also being on the move most of the time. There is a POMO position."

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero is said to have been subject to transfer interest from Real Madrid recently, amid reports that Spurs are trying to tie down the Argentine to a long-term contract keeping him in north London.

Reports emerged in September suggesting that La Liga giants Real Madrid were considering making a move for Romero, who has impressed since joining Spurs back from Atalanta back in 2022. However, Ange Postecoglou’s side aren’t keen on letting him leave.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham will not entertain bids for the 26-year-old as they are ‘desperate’ to keep hold of Romero as they aim to strengthen their defence in January, rather than allow the centre-back to leave. The defender is currently under contract at Spurs until June 2027, but the club hope to keep him around for a longer period of time.

It had previously been reported that Romero’s consideration of extending his contract would come down to the ambition at Tottenham, as it would be difficult to match the title-winning history of Real Madrid. The north London side are 11th in the Premier League table after eleven, matches so far this season, after struggling to string a consistent run of positive results together.

They are still reeling from a 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Ipswich Town last weekend - a side who had yet to record their first win of the season before their trip to Spurs. However, Postecoglou’s side remains competitive in the Premier League as they sit just three points off the Champions League places.

Furthermore, Spurs have already knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup in their pursuit of their first trophy since 2008 when they won the League Cup.

Tottenham lacking depth in defence

Suggestions that Spurs want to add to their defence in January come as no surprise, seeing as they are currently struggling for depth at the back - to make matters worse, centre-back Micky van de Ven is dealing with a hamstring injury which will keep him out until after the international break.

Radu Dragusin has been playing in place of the Dutchman alongside Romero, however, if they were to suffer another injury at the back, Postecoglou could find it difficult to line up in his normal four-at-the-back formation. It could be one of the reasons why Spurs appear unlikely to consider accepting if Real Madrid comes in for the defender.

Tottenham Hotspur are 'keen' on making a move for in-demand Villarreal winger Alex Baena in January but will have to fight off competition from Newcastle United and Aston Villa to bring the 23-year-old to London.

Spanish outlet Fichajes has linked Spurs with transfer interest in the forward. Villarreal are thought to be willing to allow Baena to leave but would demand around €65 million - around £54 million - from any suitor.

The Spanish international has picked up five assists so far in La Liga this season, along with one goal, having picked up a Euro 2024 winners medal with Spain this summer. It seems that Ange Postecoglou may view the star as a solution to the inconsistency that has plagued his side so far this season.

CaughtOffside name Newcastle United as potential rivals to any deal, along with Aston Villa. The Midlands club have the benefit of manager Unai Emery having worked with Baena while at Villarreal, which could put the Villains in an advantageous position should the player be offered contracts by rival Premier League clubs too.

A product of the Villarreal youth academy, Baena has broken into the first team in recent years after a loan spell with Girona during the 2021/22 campaign. The winger has earned plaudits this season with Spanish outlet Ser 100 praising him for a 'perfect game' against Mallorca in September - "Baena has become the difference maker, capable of deciding a game with a crucial assist" the report added.

Despite being just 23 years old, the player would arrive in the Premier League with pedigree. As well as his Euro 2024 winners medal, Baena won the Europa League under Emery at Villarreal in 2021 and picked up a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics with the Spanish under-23 side.

Baena also finished last season as the player with the most assists in La Liga as Villarreal placed eighth in the table. The winger laid on 14 league goals last term.
