Tottenham will be looking forward to their Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar next as they aim to win a piece of silverware under Ange Postecoglou in his second season.

Spurs’ season has been plagued by injury problems, with Postecoglou struggling for options both in defence and up front. However, the crisis has eased in recent weeks and they have a few names close to a return.

They face AZ on Thursday, kicking off at 5.45 pm, as they aim to start off the round of 16 tie well at the AFAS Stadium. But will they have players returning after an extended amount of time out of action?

Christian Romero

Defender Romero has been out injured since December when he suffered a hamstring injury during a game against Chelsea. He had to be taken off after just 15 minutes, and has been recovering since.

He is a possible candidate to return against AZ on Thursday, but Postecoglou will likely want to be cautious with him. The Spurs boss said about Romero and others last week: “They are all similar times, hopefully in the next seven to 10 days. A couple of them are already training, but over that period, we’ll start incorporating them back into matchday squads.”

Expected return date - Thursday 6 March vs AZ Alkmaar (A)

Micky Van de Ven

Centre-back Van de Ven has been out with a hamstring injury ever since he suffered a setback in January. He came back after initially suffering the issue in November but re-aggravated it - although the Dutchman could return soon.

He is back in training and could make his return on Thursday night against AZ, which would provide a huge boost for Spurs.

Expected return date - Thursday 6 March vs AZ Alkmaar (A)

Ben Davies

Yet another defender who is recovering from an injury, Davies is dealing with a knock that he picked up against Manchester United in mid-February.

He could return on Thursday and is currently being assessed ahead of the trip to the Netherlands.

Expected return date - Thursday 6 March vs AZ Alkmaar (A)

Richarlison

Brazil international Richarlison suffered an injury during Spurs’ 4-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at the start of February. He is getting closer to a return but looks like the Europa League game will come too soon.

Richarlison looks set to return at the weekend however in Spurs’ next Premier League match.

Expected return date - Sunday 9 March vs Bournemouth (H)

Dominic Solanke

Solanke will be working hard to return ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s first international break as England manager later in the month as he could be in line for selection.

The striker won’t be fit for the game against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night, but he could come back as early as the weekend as he is close to recovering completely from his knee injury.

Expected return date - Sunday 9 March vs Bournemouth (H)

Radu Dragusin

Dragusin suffered a season-ending ACL injury at the start of February, which required surgery. He has since begun the rehab process following his successful surgery.

The defender will likely miss the start of next season, with a return at the moment looking likely in December, which is a huge blow for him.

Expected return date - December 2025

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been sent fresh enticing transfer news on Tuesday with reports of a release clause to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.

The 21-year-old has plundered 17 goals in all competitions so far this season and turned the heads of Premier League suitors. Now, transfer specialist Florian Plettenberg, claims that an €80 million bid - approximately £66 million - would be enough to force through a transfer.

Plettenberg wrote on social media platform X: “Until now, there had only been talk of a verbal agreement, but Benjamin #Sesko has a formally fixed release clause in his contract until 2029. This clause can be activated starting this summer.

‘All top English clubs’ interested in Sesko

“It is tied to various parameters – such as games played, goals, and assists – and increases regularly. Currently, the clause stands at around €70m for the 21-y/o top striker, but by the end of the season, it is expected to reach approximately €80m. All top English clubs have expressed interest, including Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal. The only club not involved in the race is Manchester City.”

That comes after The Mirror last week named Chelsea as another suitor for Sesko. That report claimed that the German side’s crashing out of the Champions League with a 32nd place finish combined with a fight to play in the competition next season could point Sesko towards the exit door.

The outlet cited ‘damaging financial implications’ for Leipzig this summer with the club having just spent £66 million on Xavi Simons in January. That could play into the hands of Spurs and Chelsea, as well as Arsenal, with the Gunners said to have done ‘notable groundwork’ to sign the player.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal striker predicament

Arsenal are in desperate need of a talisman for the next campaign, as has been underlined by injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in recent months. Speaking after the January window, Mikel Arteta said: "He [Havertz] has been our main striker for a while now and he's producing some big numbers and his work-rate is unbelievable. Not only that but what we demand him to do in our model, his availability has been exceptional, so he's always there and we are very happy to have him.

"It doesn't depend on us [transfers]. We have the intention, purpose and ambition to try to help the team and support the squad to be better and to finish the season really strong, and we are actively trying to do that

"I’m very confident with the work that the club is doing and exploring every single opportunity that we believe can have an impact on the team. That’s certainly the case and if we can agree something we will. If not, we won’t. We are trying everything that we can, but I don’t want to give any reassurance or not. I don’t know, it doesn’t depend only on us, so our intention is clear but the possibilities are affected by three parties."

In other news, Arsenal have had a boost in pursuit of a ‘no brainer’ transfer.

Chelsea got back to winning ways in midweek as they beat relegation-threatened Southampton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. The win came after a run of three-straight defeats in all competitions as they were beaten by Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup and Premier League before throwing a 1-0 lead away to lose 2-1 against Aston Villa.

Up next for the Blues is a trip to Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League before they host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. Their second leg against Copenhagen comes on March 13. They then make the trip to Arsenal in the final fixture before the international break and then return in April with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur and a trip to Brentford.

Enzo Maresca has his eye on a Champions League spot and will be hoping to stay within the top five. A fifth spot is set to be enough for Champions League football due to England’s strong ranking with UEFA coefficient. Currently, the Blues are one point behind fourth-placed Man City.

Premier League suspension rules

Ahead of their next set of Premier League games, the Blues have one player who is facing a two-game ban after picking up an astonishing five yellow cards in his last six games.

Premier League rules state that any players who collect 10 yellow cards in their club’s first 32 games will be handed a two-match suspension. Will Hughes of Crystal Palace and Fulham’s Sasa Lukic are the first two players to hit the 10-caution mark this season but a clutch of players have been booked nine times so far.

One of those is Moises Caicedo, who has really racked the bookings up in recent games. The £115m signing from Brighton has been booked against Wolves, Man City, Brighton, Villa and Southampton. In his last six games they only match he wasn’t booked in was against West Ham. If he is booked against Leicester next weekend, he will be ineligible to face both Arsenal and Spurs. If he is booked in any of his next five matches he will be handed a two-match ban.

Caicedo’s importance to Maresca

Caicedo has been ever-present for Chelsea in the Premier League this season, starting all 27 games under Enzo Maresca. He has captained the side twice, doing so in a win over Bournemouth in September and a draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge back in November. He has one goal this season, which came in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Asked earlier in the season if Caicedo could compare with the likes of Rodri at Man City and Declan Rice at Arsenal, Maresca responded: “For sure, he’s now at that level, no doubt. Unfortunately now Rodri has an injury, but Declan is playing and I think Moi can sit at that table with that kind of midfielder.”

Further praise came for the midfielder just last month. Maresca said in early February: “Since we started he has been doing fantastic in all aspects. He’s improving a lot, he’s understanding the game, he’s going in different positions and he’s open-minded. He’s a good guy, he’s humble, he works hard, so for a coach he is the perfect player.

“He’s playing a lot of minutes, but I think if you compare to other players at Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City, there are many players that play more than Moi is playing for us. Moi is playing more or less one game a week and at 23 if you cannot play one game a week that means there is something wrong.”

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal cold ignite their North London rivalry off the pitch this summer with the two clubs said to be in a transfer race for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.

It’s set to be a summer of restructuring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after an underwhelming season under Ange Postecoglou with another injury farce a must-avoid for the 2025/26 campaign. That needs strength in depth and the former Manchester City man has emerged as an option.

Last month, TBR Football claimed that Spurs ‘could be ready’ to sell club stalwart Son Heung-min to fund new arrivals. Crystal Palace man Eberechi Eze had been touted and now Torres is another rumoured target.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal linked with former Man City man

Football Fan Cast cites reports in Spain claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘battling’ to sign Torres from Barcelona. The out-of-favour 25-year-old has been afforded just 651 minutes in La Liga this term and could be moved on for a touted £33 million fee.

Arsenal are said to be challenging Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer. Mikel Arteta has had his own injury woes this season with Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri missing large parts of the campaign on the flanks, along with problems for Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. Napoli and AC Milan are also said to be looking at a swoop for Torres.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha are providing plenty of competition for Torres in Catalunya and a move back to the Premier League could be a viable option for the player, who has history in the top flight. Torres won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2021 and has nine goals and three assists in the competition.

Pep Guardiola prise for ‘incredible’ winger

Torres can play across the front three, just like Son, but is a younger option at 25 years old compared to the South Korean’s 32 years of age. The winger would come with the backing of Pep Guardiola too.

Speaking about the forward after he bagged a hat-trick against Newcastle United during a 4-3 win in May 2021. Guardiola said: “I am delighted for the three goals but he has incredible numbers for first season in England. He didn’t play during a period of two months much. He came as a winger with incredible runs in behind, but he can play as a striker.

“Every time he plays in that position, he has a real sense of goal. The last one is a big example of that, the intuition to know where the ball comes and be there to score. He was fantastic all season. An incredible signing for us, a young player who can play in all three positions for us up front.”

In other news, Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a £49.5 million move for an attacker Jamie Redknapp has labelled an ‘absolute star’.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea transfer target Matheus Cunha has been banned for three games following a red card in the FA Cup fifth round clash against AFC Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a head-turning season at Molineux, despite the team’s struggle for form, with 14 goals in all competitions. Cunha was on target against the Cherries, levelling the score after 60 minutes with a strike from distance labelled as ‘magnificent’ by the BBC.

Bournemouth went on to win that match in penalties but the talking topic was not Cunha’s goal and rather a physical outburst after 120 minutes. The forward punched, kicked and headbutted Cherries man Milos Kerkez, and was given his marching orders by Chirs Kavanagh.

Wolves boss knows Cunha is ‘better’ than headbutt

Cunha will now miss the next three matches, Premier League meetings with Everton, Southampton and West Ham. That could be a huge blow for the Midlands outfit who teeter above the relegation zone in 17th place, just five points clear of the drop.

Speaking about the incident after the game, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira said: "When the situation happened I was looking for the ball.

"It means that I didn't see the situation, but football is emotional and the level was very high today. Not only inside the pitch, but outside [the pitch]. With a lot of pressure, and in the end these are things that can happen.

"You know now he is frustrated, he is better in my opinion. I never speak to the team when we are nervous or frustrated. It is better to wait one day and think about everything. After we can have a talk.

"Of course, he is an important player, but next game we play with 11 and start with 11. We had the capacity to equalise the game in the second half and after that the injury limitations."

Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs linked with £62.5m Wolves man

The news of Cunha’s sending off will be of particular interest to Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs, who have all shown interest in signing the player. The forward is known to have a £62.5 million release clause in his contract, signed at the start of February.

There is no doubting the Brazilian’s ability in front of goal but there have been questions raised over his temperament. The red card in the FA Cup is his first this season but speaking on Sky Sports, Paul Merson said: “Cunha’s been sent off for a full house. He’s called offside, they’re trying to get the ball off him, so he punches Kerkez.

“He goes down, kicks him, Kerkez gets up and [Cunha] headbutts him – full house, whole lot. The referee has a talk and gives him a red card, and he cannot believe it. It’s unbelievable. He can’t believe it, arguing with the ref and the linesman as well.”

Former Spurs defender Michael Dawson added: “That is absolutely ridiculous. It’s pathetic. Is he stupid? We talk about how talented he is, but doing that is just ridiculous.”

Earlier this week, Fichajes carried the latest report of transfer interest from the three London clubs, all supposedly tempted to trigger the player’s release clause this summer. Manchester United have also been linked with the player.

In other news, there was more FA Cup drama today with a Millwall man sent off for a tackle Piers Morgan labelled as a ‘shameful assault’.

QPR suffered a second defeat on the bounce in the Championship with promotion-chasing Sheffield United picking up three points for the fourth fixture in a row at Loftus Road.

Handed his second start since arriving on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, teenage winger Yang Min-hyeok had a few minutes of promise early on but his inexperience in the Championship was put under the spotlight when easily dispossessed in his own half. The cross that followed fell onto the head of Ben Brereton Diaz and into the back of the QPR goal.

A side with ever-growing character, the hosts weren’t to be deterred, although not helped by some crazy passes from the back by Jonathan Varane and Ronnie Edwards. Michael Frey had the ball in the back of the net shortly before half time but celebrations were cut short by the linesman’s flag.

QPR would have been level going in at half time should former Spurs youngster Kieran Morgan have slotted into the path of current Spurs teen Yang, but failed to do so, taking a shot into the body of Michael Cooper - an echo of groans ringing out from around Loftus Road.

Despite all the R’s promise, it was the Blades who struck again. A moment of defensive frailty allowed Tyrese Campbell to lash home a shot from distance - a ferocious finish that gave Paul Nardi little chance.

Cifuentes soon turned to his bench with Paul Smyth coming on for Yang and earning a penalty thanks to his direct play, a cross hitting the hand of Harrison Burrows. Michael Frey made no mistake from the spot but QPR couldn’t find a second late on. Here’s how the QPR players rated.

QPR player ratings

GK - Paul Nardi, 6

A little big wobbly with the ball at feet at times but not at fault for the goals today. Would’ve been some save to stop the rocket of the second.

LB - Kenneth Paal, 5

Some decent deliveries from set plays but guilty of a lack of communication for the Blades’ opened. Subbed with just over 20 minutes left to play.

CB - Ronnie Edwards, 5

Adds so much to this side, carrying the ball forwards confidently. That can lead to questionable moments of positioning and over-eagerness, as ahead of the Sheffield United second.

CB - Steve Cook, 6

Still getting back up to pace post injury but pretty solid today.

RB - Jimmy Dunne, 6

A quieter day by his standards, seeing yellow for a misjudged challenge early in the second half.

CDM - Jack Colback, 4

Looked to be absolutely blowing in the second half and saw yellow for dangling a lazy foot in for a tackle as the Blades broke.

CDM - Jonathan Varane, 7

Couple half chances from distance early doors, Varane can hold his head high with a robust showing today.

Ex Tottenham Hotspur youngster has off day

LW - Ilias Chair, 7

Was pulling the strings to try and help QPR back into the game following the opener. Remains hugely influential for this side.

CAM - Kieran Morgan, 3

Not at his best today. Rarely looks like an 18-year-old playing in the Championship but did against Sheffield United. Often in the right place thanks to his enthusiasm but lacking his usual quality with the ball at his feet. Needed to square to Yang in the chance before the break to bring QPR level in a frustrating moment.

RW - Yang Min-hyeok, 8

The potential here is crazy. Bullied off the ball for the Sheffield United opener, but that goal was not solely his fault with unconvincing defending. Looked a threat every time the ball landed at his feet. Would have had his first QPR goal if found by Morgan.

ST - Michael Frey, 7

Always provides a physicality up front and gets his body to balls, even if the delivery isn’t primed for a decisive finish. Had the ball in the back of the net but was ruled off for offside. Took his penalty with aplomb.

SUB - Koki Saito, 8

Such a zippy little player, making an immediate impact to win a dangerous free kick. Pushed to full-back later on.

SUB - Alfie Lloyd, 7

Offers pace and physicality from the bench. A full-blooded cameo but couldn’t help find a leveller.

SUB - Paul Smyth, 8

His urgency lifted QPR when he came on, a cross hitting the hand of Burrows and earning the penalty.

SUB - Kader Dembele, 5

Struggled to carve space to make an impact. Felt he should have had a free kick on the edge of the box late on but ignored by the referee.

SUB - Morgan Fox,7

Only a short time on the pitch but gave away a silly free kick to end a QPR attacking move. Made up for that with a phenomenal tackle to pinch the ball away from the last man and keep the R’s in it as injury time ticked on.

Tottenham Hotspur are the 'most profitable club' in Premier League history according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, in an infuriating revelation for supporters of the North London club.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy faced what The Daily Mail claimed to be 'the biggest protest against his 24-year Tottenham reign' ahead of the Premier League fixture against Manchester United earlier this month. The club has been without a trophy for 17 years and hasn't finished in the top three of the top flight since 2018.

A lack of silverware has been cause for frustration with accusations that Levy is running the outfit as a business rather than a football club. Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on the former Manchester United man's podcast, Maguire admitted: "Spurs. They are the most profitable club in the history of the Premier League, by far. Best stadium in the league, lowest wages compared to the money coming in. As a business - if I take away my football hat - it's absolutely perfect. And also, they don't have to pay any bonuses for winning trophies."

Tottenham Hotspur fans protest against Daniel Levy

The Mail claimed that Spurs have a revenue of £615 million and the second most expensive adult season ticket in Europe at £856. Thousands took part in the protest against Levy earlier this month, making their way down High Road before congregating outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Former Spurs man Jamie Redknapp also gave his opinion on the club's ownership ahead of that match, which Ange Postecoglou's side did win 1-0 thanks to a James Maddison goal. That result came following back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Aston Villa, crashing out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: "There's never really been any rhyme or reason when he's got rid of managers. I think it's hard to second guess what someone like Levy will do.

"I feel normally when he comes under huge pressure that's when he normally tends to want to change the manager. But he's probably thinking right now "who else do I bring in". There are candidates out there that'd do a great job but I think that's the problem.

Jamie Redknapp slams Spurs business model

"I've thought long and hard about this situation since they lost to Liverpool. I played for both clubs, I tried to figure out "why is it Tottenham have been underachieving for so long?" 'I think a lot of it comes down to culture, a winning culture, When I was at Liverpool, every season the culture and the environment was to try and win. You bought players to try and win. Around the ground there were pictures of people that have won great trophies.

"Here I think that as long as they've got the American Football and Beyonce in the summer, I think the owners are happy. It looks like a business model that everyone can be happy with and successful. Does that breed a winning environment? No it doesn't because something is fundamentally wrong."

In other news, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola labelled this Tottenham Hotspur player as 'unstoppable' following the Champions' midweek win.

Tottenham will be aiming to strengthen their squad depth in the summer after what has been a season full of injury problems under Ange Postecoglou.

With the likes of Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Heung-Min Son and Richarlison missing time, it means that Postecoglou has had a tough time picking his starting XI’s this season in attack.

They signed Mathys Tel in the January transfer window, but seeing as his deal is only a loan move, with an option to buy, he may not be around next season. So Spurs have begun to show interest in several attackers, including a Premier League attacker, who has become an England star.

Tottenham target Eberechi Eze open to move

Tottenham were previously linked with Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze in the last summer transfer window, alongside the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, but no clubs made a move for the 26-year-old.

Eze has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Palace this season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists for Oliver Glasner’s side. However, he could be on the move in the summer.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are the team most interested in Eze, as he reportedly likes the idea of leaving Palace but staying in London. The attacker was born in the capital and began his football career at QPR before moving to Selhurst Park.

Eze has a £68 million release clause much like last summer, but the report says that Spurs, alongside Man United and Napoli, are keen to sign the attacker, but at a value of £50 million.

There is a chance however that the attacker stays at Selhurst Park as his contract isn’t due to expire until June 2027. Furthermore, Glasner’s side are progressing well, and are now one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League, which could tempt Eze to stay.

Chelsea and Arsenal had previously been linked to signing Eze, but they’re both reportedly not interested in the 26-year-old any more, which puts Spurs into the driving seat for any potential deal for him.

Eze could replace 172-goal Spurs legend

Heung-Min Son’s contract at Tottenham is due to expire in June 2026, so the club will want to decide on the 32-year-old’s future this summer, as they won’t want him to leave for free.

Reports have suggested this week that instead of extending Son’s deal at Spurs, the club could sell him and sign Eze as his long-term replacement, a move that would make sense as they play similar roles.

Eze can play as a winger, or an attacking midfielder, which is much like Son’s role in the team. Furthermore, the England international will have experience playing with the likes of Dominic Solanke and James Maddison through the national team.

If Tottenham were to sell Son, they would likely have to find the extra funds to buy Eze to replace him. According to Transfermarkt, Son is valued at around £31 million, and with his contract expiring and age increasing, his value is only set to decline in the coming months.

Tottenham Hotspur have much more reason to be positive in recent weeks after they have won three Premier League games in a row.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are on the verge of the top half of the Premier League table, and won 4-1 against Ipswich in their last match over the weekend. However, it has still been a disappointing season under Postecoglou with their only hope of silverware coming in the Europa League.

They have just four contracts due to expire in June, with Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies and Alfie Whiteman set to leave the club as things stand. However, in 2026, key player Heung-Min Son’s contract is due to expire, meaning Spurs will have to make a decision on whether to extend his deal.

Tottenham tipped to extend Son’s contract

Despite his faltering form this season, it has been suggested that Spurs are set to keep Son around for next campaign at least. The South Korean attacker has been at the club since 2015, and has become a club legend, scoring 172 goals for Tottenham in the 10 years that he has spent in North London.

According to former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, the club wants to keep Son around, despite the fact that his form in the Premier League this season has declined. He told Football Insider: “I think they want to keep him and I expect them to stick with him.

“But there are certainly question marks about his level of performance. He doesn’t look like the Son we’ve seen in the past. So yes, I think they’ll stick with him because at the end of the day he’s their captain and he’s been an important player for them. But long-term I’m not convinced he’ll be so much of a key player in this side.”

Spurs could sign Mathys Tel as long-term Son replacement

Because Son is 32 years old, Tottenham won’t be expected to sign him to a long-term contract extension if they do sign a new deal with the attacker, and so will need to find a replacement for the future.

They signed Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel on loan in the January transfer window until the end of the season, but his deal has an option to buy permanently for a fee of £45 million.

So far, the 19-year-old has made four appearances for Spurs, scoring one goal. If he continues to develop into a top-class striker, Tel could become an option for a long-term replacement for Son in the coming years.

Tel can play in a similar role to Son, who has featured for Spurs both on the wings and as a striker. He is both someone who can score and assist, but will need to make sure he shows his worth in the remainder of the season if the Frenchman wants to make his move to Tottenham a permanent one.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jamie Donley has revealed Ange Postecoglou’s final message to him before his loan spell at Leyton Orient.

Donley, 20, is currently thriving in League One and has been one of the standout players in Richie Wellens’ play-off chasing side. The England Under-20 international, has scored six goals and assisted five times in 25 league appearances as a central attacking midfielder and also formed a key part of the team which went on a steady cup run to the FA Cup fourth round before falling short in a narrow 2-1 defeat to English champions Manchester City.

The youngster, who was born in Antrim, Northern Ireland has earned a reputation as a rising star this season and has been praised by the likes of Pep Guardiola, Martin Keown and Chris Sutton. But what does the future hold for him at Tottenham and is he likely to be a part of Postecoglou’s team next season?

Jamie Donley drops claim on Tottenham return

Jamie Donley has been on the books at Tottenham since he was eight years old and he has always been highly rated by coaches at the club. In January 2022 he signed his first professional contract with Tottenham after helping the young Lillywhites team to Under-17 and Under-18 Premier League Cup triumphs while representing both teams in the final.

A year later he extended his stay until 2027 before firing in 11 goals and registering 20 assists in 49 appearances at Under-21 level.

Donley made four appearances for the first team during Ange Postecoglou’s first season at the club and was sent out on loan to harness his potential this term. Leyton Orient, who helped nurture Harry Kane in his early years, took advantage of the situation and signed the player on a season-long loan deal over the summer.

The 20-year-old had previously been compared to Kane due to his ability to drop deep and play decisive passes while also having excellent ability in front of goal. The Belfast Telegraph made the comparisons and claimed that both Northern Ireland and England had been involved in a lengthy battle over getting him to commit allegiances.

"If I had even half the career that Harry's had I'd be absolutely delighted," said Donley via The Mirror. “The fact that Kane started [at Orient] just goes to show that if he can go on to do what he's done then anyone can.”

He added when discussing his Spurs future: "I've said before in an interview that Ange spoke to me and said when I come back in pre-season just make sure you're a better player when you come back in pre-season.I think I've definitely done that; I've learned off the experienced players that are here at Orient.I think time will tell, but obviously my focus is on the rest of this season. Then I'll have my time off and we'll see."

Jamie Donley earns big credit for stellar season

Jamie Donley has quickly established himself as a fan favourite in East London and has been a catalyst for Richie Wellens’ team in the second half of the season.Wellens tipped Donley for the top when he etched his name into FA Cup folklore with a moment of magic against Manchester City. Donley sent the fans into pandemonium after 16 minutes of their fourth-round tie when his 40-yard lob struck the crossbar and bounced in off City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

“Going forward Championship will be minimum for him,” Wellens acknowledged after a narrow 2-1 loss to City, via the Independent. “Unless we’re in the Championship, there’s no way we get him back next year.

”The plan for Jamie was one of two things. He comes to us, develops, grows into a man and then goes back to Tottenham and maybe gets into their first team. If not, then he goes to the Championship, so there is a clear development plan for him going forward. Spurs have been great with us, loaned us one of their best young players and we think we’ve developed him really well over the last six months. “And if he carries on with the same attitude, the same intensity, the same work ethic and mentality, then he might be playing against City week in, week out.”

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola also took time to heap praise on the youngster. He said in his post match press conference: "When you concede this goal, you just congratulate Donley. He's an incredible left-footed player and he made a fantastic goal.”

"It's an absolutely remarkable goal," said ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown on Match of the Day. "It's the strike of a lifetime. To even think about shooting from there - wow. “What a spot," enthused Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live. "What a story. It's absolutely sensational.

Leyton Orient, who will hope to retain Donley for longer by winning promotion, are currently sixth in the table and narrowly ahead of Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers on goal difference. They travel to Birmingham City in their next encounter in a match which Spurs fans are likely to keep an eye on.
