Tottenham star previously linked with an exit sees move blocked

Tottenham have been busy in the summer transfer window but Ange Postecoglou has made another bold call.

After three loan spells away from the club since he signed in 2022, Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Djed Spence will be part of his Tottenham squad this summer and will not be sold or sent out on loan. Spurs signed Spence from Middlesbrough for £20 million.

Since then, he has been forced to play at Rennes, Leeds, and Genoa, where he impressed and continued to develop. He’s been linked with a move to a Championship team this summer, but manager Postecoglou says he will be part of the squad this season, having impressed in pre-season and started the last two pre-season games.

He told reporters ahead of the game against Leicester on Monday night: “I don’t think left-back is his obvious position—I think he’s more of a right full-back—but the fact that he can play out on the left again gives us some good options going into the season, where with European football, we’re going to have more challenges," said the Australian.

"It was quite obvious last year that whenever we had disruptions in terms of injuries or suspensions, our performance dropped a fair bit. We’re trying to narrow that gap.

"Hopefully, having Djed as part of our squad allows us to do that. He’s training well, he’s available for Monday, and I’ll make those decisions at the weekend."

Last time out, Tottenham started the campaign like a house on fire, winning eight of their first 10 games and were tipped to fight for the Premier League title, but injuries and suspensions meant they ended up fifth and missed out on the Champions League.

They have since strengthened with the additions of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, and Wilson Odobert, who arrived from Burnley this summer.

Timo Werner, who was on loan in the second half of the season, has also returned, as well as Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who was signed earlier but joined the team this summer.

Wright and Merson in full agreement over Tottenham transfer

Two Arsenal heroes have been speaking about Tottenham’s big-money deal to sign Dominic Solanke.

Pundits are well and truly in favour of Tottenham’s statement signing of Dominic Solanke this summer. Spurs splashed out as much as £65million to land the former Bournemouth striker, bolstering their front line amid uncertainty over Richarlison’s future at the club.

Solanke has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of year in particular, scoring 72 goals in 199 league games for the Cherries but also offering plenty more in the build-up. That combination could allow Ange Postecoglou to better replace Harry Kane a year on from the England striker’s departure.

Most are backing Solanke to have an immediate impact for Spurs, and in his predictions for the opening weekend of Premier League action, Arsenal legend Paul Merson was no different. He told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham are dark horses for the top four in the Premier League this season.

“They have brought really well in the transfer market and Dominic Solanke is a great signing. He’s got plenty of pace to burn and he will make runs – that will help James Maddison as well. Leicester have lost their manager this summer and have their work cut out for them this season. I am going to go for Tottenham to win this game (3-0).”

Merson is the only pundit to praise Tottenham’s signing of Solanke, with another Arsenal hero in Ian Wright expressing his surprise that the Gunners did not enter the race for the England frontman. “You know, I wouldn’t have been too… that wouldn’t have bothered me if they went for Solanke,” he told The Overlap. “With [Gabriel] Jesus and [Gabriel] Martinelli, they lost their place last season but we can probably get the goals from them if they get back to where we know they can be They’re better than they showed last season.”

Wright added: “Dominic Solanke could be the signing of the season at £65m. I like that move and I like the way he plays. I think, if he doesn’t get injured, then he will score lots of goals for them.”

What Solanke has said

Upon signing with Tottenham, Solanke told club media: “I feel delighted. Obviously it's a magnificent club, a huge club with ambitions that match mine, so I'm delighted to start, meet all the boys and I can't wait to get started. What excites me most about the club is how ambitious it is. Obviously a huge club with great ambitions that I want to be part of as well and it's a great manager, great players and I feel like it definitely suits my style of play as well so I can't wait to get started and do my stuff on the pitch.

"I'm familiar with James Maddison, we spent some time at England together. He's a top guy, a great player as well so that's one familiar face I already know and, like I said, I'm getting excited to meet the rest of the boys as well. I think the club has great depth throughout the whole squad, attacking options are great as well and that's what a top club needs. I'm really looking forward to playing with them, competing with them and hopefully we can achieve great things.

"I think me as a player I am ambitious on the pitch, I work hard for the team, score goals, leave it all out there and I love winning so hopefully we can win a few things together. That's what I'm going to bring that fighting spirit.”

Newcastle United to be boosted by £55m 'new signing' for Spurs fixture

Sandro Tonali could feature in Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham in the coming weeks.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is set to make his Premier League return against Tottenham Hotspur later this month after the Tyneside club provided an update on the player's ban.

The Italy international has been out of action since receiving a ban from the sport last October from Italian authorities as a consequence of breaching betting regulations. That came just months after Newcastle United forked out £55 million to sign the player from AC Milan in a sizeable blow for the Magpies.

Tonali made just 12 appearances for the club before being sidelined, scoring one goal which came on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa. Newcastle United provided an update on the ban after last night's Carabao Cup draw.

There had been confusion as to whether Tonali's ban would end on August 27 and August 29 due to an unclear FA document but the club has confirmed that the player will be eligible to play Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on August 28 - as clarified by NewcastleWorld.

An official statement read: “Newcastle United can announce that Sandro Tonali will return to selection on Wednesday 28th August 2024 following the conclusion of his ten-month ban from competitive football.

“The club has received formal confirmation from the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) that the player’s sporting sanction will run up to and including Tuesday 27th August. The Magpies will travel to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round during the week commencing Monday 26th August (fixture date and time TBC), before hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at St. James’ Park on Sunday 1st September (kick-off 1:30 pm BST).”

That means that the visit of London outfit Tottenham Hotspur to Tyneside could be Tonali's first Premier League appearance in almost a year. The Magpies then travel to Fulham two Gameweeks later with a clash against Wolves between those fixtures.

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur netted nine goals between them in their two Premier League meetings last season, Eddie Howe’s men winning at home 4-0 in April after Spurs triumphed 4-1 last December. Fulham played the North East side three times in competitive action last term and failed to score a single time, losing on an aggregate score of 6-0.

Howe revealed in pre-season that Tonali is 'focused' and looking sharp ahead of his potential comeback. He told reporters: "He's come back really fit, focused - you can see a change in his demeanour because he feels closer to playing. It looks to me like he's ready to play and make a difference.

“It does feel like a new signing. He will no doubt feel like he has objectives to hit. He came here with clear motivations, and he is someone who wants to do very well."

The winger had been courted by several Premier League clubs but has elected to move to Germany.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been beaten in the transfer race for Club Brugge forward Antonio Nusa by German giants RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga outfit has confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old on a five-year deal. Nusa will wear the number seven shirt for the club, who forked out an impressive £18 million for the player, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Nusa said: “I’m just incredibly proud to be at RB Leipzig and in the Bundesliga now. The club has shown me a clear vision and a clear path, which has totally convinced me. “It’s obviously a big step for me — but I’m ready for it. RB Leipzig has developed into one of the top clubs in Europe and is also one of the top clubs for young players.

“When I played here with Bruges in 2021, I was very impressed by the training centre and the academy, and of course, I also saw the stadium. It’s simply an amazing feeling to be able to play there in front of over 45,000 fans in just a few days.”

That transfer confirmation will come as a blow to London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The Athletic reports that both the Premier League sides had 'held talks' over signing Nusa, who had become a hot target this summer.

The winger, who is already a Norway international, endured an injury-riddled season last time out but still managed three goals and three assists in just over 1,000 minutes of Juliper Pro League action. International teammate and Arsenal star Martin Odegaard hailed the player as 'dangerous' as he broke into the senior national team last year.

Brentford had agreed to a £31.5 million deal with Brugge for the player in January only to see that transfer fall at the final hurdle due to complications.

Tottenham have confirmed the latest transfer move ahead of a busy final few weeks of the window

Tottenham have confirmed that defender Emerson Royal has left the club to join AC Milan after it became clear that he wasn’t a primary part of Ange Postecoglou's plans going forward.

The 25-year-old's move marks the end of his three-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Signed in the summer of 2021 when Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge, Emerson featured regularly under both Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Emerson was a key member under Conte, but he has since become the second choice to Pedro Porro, who has been the preferred option under Postecoglou. Despite this, Emerson managed to make 24 appearances under the Australian manager, mostly as a makeshift centre-back.

A Tottenham statement confirmed his departure: “We have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Emerson Royal. The right-back joined the club in August 2021 from Barcelona and made his debut the following month in a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.

“Emerson made a total of 101 appearances in our colours, scoring four goals, and in May 2024, reached the century milestone for the club when he featured for us against Liverpool at Anfield. The 25-year-old has 10 caps for Brazil after making his senior debut in November 2019. We wish Emerson all the best for the future."

Tottenham are looking to move in a different direction, having shown ambition by signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke this summer, as well as Archie Gray from Leeds earlier in the summer.

Timo Werner, who was out on loan last season, will also get another chance to impress before the club decides on his future.

Tottenham’s manager had been keen on a striker, and the signing of Solanke signals that the club is backing him as they seek to re-establish Spurs as a top-four side. Solanke, who scored 22 goals last season, is expected to replace captain Harry Kane, who left the club last summer to join Bayern Munich.

Chelsea have ‘interest’ in Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson and face competition from rivals Manchester United in pursuit of his signature, according to a report by the Daily Star. The 19-year-old is under contract at the AMEX Stadium until June 2029 so his current club are under no pressure to sell him in this window unless an offer that they can’t refuse comes in for his signature.

Ferguson, who is 19-years-old, has a bright future ahead of him in the game. He joined the Seagulls back in 2020 and has since broken into their first-team.

The attacker has made 65 appearances in all competitions and has scored 16 goals, six of which came in the last campaign. Prior to his move to England, he played for St Kevin’s Boy and Bohemians.

Chelsea could see him as someone to bolster their options at the top end of the pitch. They have until the deadline later this month to try and strike a deal ahead of the Red Devils.

Spurs full-back target latest

An exit from Southamton for Spurs-linked Kyle Walker-Peters is ‘still on the cards’ over the coming weeks, as detailed in a report by GiveMeSport. It was first reported back in May by TalkSPORT that a potential return to his former club was a possibility.

Walker-Peters rose up through the academy ranks at Spurs and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He played 24 times for their first-team before heading out the exit door in 2019.

The full-back has been a key player for the Saints since then and has featured on 157 occasions for them to date. He helped them gain promotion from the Championship last term under Russell Martin but it remains to be seen whether he will be staying put.

Spurs have snapped up striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth to bolster their striking options. He has said: "It's a magnificent club, a huge club with ambitions that match mine, so I'm delighted to start and meet all the boys and get started. What excites me most about the club is how ambitious it is. A great manager, great players and I feel like [Spurs] will definitely suit my style of play as well so I can't wait to get started and do my stuff on the pitch."

Solanke’s arrival comes almost exactly 12 months on from the departure of Spurs legend Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old arrives in north London on the back of a tremendous individual campaign which saw him score 19 goals in 38 appearances as he outscored the likes of Son Heung Min, Mohamed Salah and Jarrod Bowen.

The England international is a product of the highly esteemed Chelsea academy, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer shortly after winning the U17 European Championship for England in 2017. Solanke made just 21 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League before moving to Bournemouth for a figure of around £19m which raised many eyebrows at the time.

The youngster struggled to hit the ground running at the Vitality Stadium and only registered three league goals in his opening two seasons, but he was a man reborn after the club’s relegation to the second tier - firing in 44 goals in two seasons before returning to the top-flight.

In the 2022/23 season, Solanke showed his influence with six goals and seven assists as the Cherries beat the drop. However, last season he more than tripled this goal tally and was hugely unfortunate not to make Gareth Southgate’s final England Euro 2024 squad.

Solanke will be a key part of Tottenham’s push for Champions League football next season while Bournemouth are considering a swift move for ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham as a potential replacement, according to the Daily Mirror.

Juventus plot ambitious move for Chelsea star

Italian heavyweights Juventus are examining the feasibility of a deal to sign Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling this summer.

Sterling joined the Blues in a £47.5m deal from Manchester City two seasons ago, but has struggled to find his best form with just 14 goals and seven league assists in his opening 59 league matches. The 29-year-old’s dip in form has seen him fall out of the England set up and Sterling himself has admitted that he is missing international football.

Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio understands is someone that manager Thiago Motta is a huge fan of as he looks to build a team capable of winning the Serie A title.

Chelsea are closing in on their latest big money addition after they had an offer accepted for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto.

The Portugal international has reportedly been on the radar of the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United in recent months and speculation over a possible move away from Molineux was ramped up even further when Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil admitted he would not stand in Neto’s way if his club received a ‘massive bid’ for his services.

Speaking last month, he told the E&S podcast: “I know how good he is, and I know how well he would do at a big club. Obviously I want out team here to be unbelievably successful. So I’m hoping that he stays. I think so (there’s a chance he stays). There’s nothing going on at this moment from anybody. He’s in a good spot, I’ve spoke to him about how we’re going to play and how it suits him and what a big part he’ll play in it.

“But of course, we’re all grown-ups while you’re having them conversations. If a massive bid comes from a top club then no one is going to stand in Pedro’s way. I’m confident that he will be here. Because we haven’t had anything really, that makes the club think that he won’t be. But of course, a lot of business can be done late.”

Chelsea submitted a £54m offer for the Portugal star on Friday and will now undergo a medical in West London as he closes in on becoming the Blues’ tenth signing of an increasingly hectic summer transfer window. Journalist Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on the move via his X (formerly Twitter) account, posting: “Pedro Neto to Chelsea, here we go! Wolves accept bid worth €60m fixed fee plus €3m add-ons as almost matches initial price tag. Neto’s agent Mendes has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea. Medical tests booked for Pedro at Chelsea with Wolves keen on Ajax’s Carlos Forbes.”

Palace legend ‘wants return’ to Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace’s chances of landing a surprise deal for Eagles icon Wilfried Zaha may well have received a major boost on Friday.

Just under 12 months have passed since the forward departed Selhurst Park and agreed a deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray. Zaha scored ten goals and provided five assists as his new side became Super Lig champions - but there has been ongoing speculation suggesting the 31-year-old could return to the Premier League over the coming days. Zaha was not named in the Galatasaray squad for their first league game of the new season against Hatayspor on Friday and Romano has given an exciting update on his stance over a potential return to Palace.

He said: “Wilfried Zaha, not even on the bench for Galatasaray today as he’s close to joining Crystal Palace. Zaha wants to returns and talks over loan deal between clubs are now ongoing.”

AC Milan set to seal Spurs signing

Tottenham Hotspur are moving closer to the signing of Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke after they had a £65m offer accepted for the Cherries striker - but there could also be a departure from Spurs over the coming hours.

Adding competition within his forward ranks was always going to be one of the main aims for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and he should get his wish ahead of the first Premier League fixture of the season after major progress was made in the bid to sign Solanke on Friday. However, there will be one current member of the Spurs squad leaving the club in the near future after Romano revealed the finishing touches were being applied for a move to take Emerson Royal to Serie A giants in a deal believed to be worth more than £12m.

He posted: “AC Milan and Tottenham are now also exchanging all documents for Emerson Royal deal. All sealed.”

Tottenham have been sweating over the fitness of star man but he’s set to return in the coming days.

Tottenham Hotspur are nearly at full strength ahead of their first league game in 10 days. Argentina duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso returned to Hotspur Way on Tuesday after an extended holiday, following their participation in the Copa America.

Rodrigo Bentancur has also resumed training, but what will particularly delight fans is the news that electric left-back Destiny Udogie, who missed the final few games of last season, and Richarlison, who was absent for a large part of the preseason, are both back in training.

Udogie had a promising first season in North London, and manager Ange Postecoglou will hope to give him some minutes in the preseason game against Bayern Munich this weekend before the first league game away at Leicester.

Postecoglou told Tottenham’s official website: “We’ve still got two weeks until the first game of the season. We’ll get some players back this week – obviously, the internationals will be back, Destiny [Udogie] is back training with us. Richarlison should be back in the week – so we’ll get some of our top-end players back into the group, which I think will help. Once we get back, we’ve got 10 to 12 days before our first game, and we’ll make sure we are ready.”

On the transfer front, Tottenham have been strongly linked to Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, but they will need to be prepared to break their transfer record if they are to secure the striker, who scored 19 goals for the Cherries last season.

They have already signed Archie Gray from Leeds United, and highly-rated Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who was signed in January, is now with the team and will add some quality and intrigue to the midfield.

The Cherries talisman has tasted European football before and would have the chance to play in the Europa League with Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be closing in on the signing of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke in what would be a statement piece of transfer business this summer for the North London side.

The 26-year-old plundered 19 Premier League goals last season, his best ever top flight tally, and would add some serious firepower to Spurs' attacking options. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that the player has given the green light to Spurs, signalling his keenness for a move.

The Telegraph has slapped a £65 million price tag on the potential deal with the Cherries thought to be willing to part with their star man for such a high profit. Solanke signed for Bournemouth from Liverpool in January 2019 for £19 million.

The talisman has not spoken publicly about the rumours but did appear to drop a hint about where he wanted to be playing his football when appearing on the Rising Ballers podcast. Solanke was asked for his opinions on European football and gushed over his brief experience in the Champions League.

He said: "European football is a dream for everyone, I had the pleasure to play in it a few times. Especially that season with Liverpool when we got to the final but didn't quite manage to go all the way. Whenever I hear the song I get goosebumps. To experience that, especially at night time under the lights, it's unreal."

Solanke picked up a runners-up medal with the Reds in 2018 and, while a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium wouldn't reunite the striker with immediate Champions League football, Spurs are qualified for the Europa League next season and those magical nights under the lights would be back on the player's calendar.

Speaking about Solanke's future at the end of July, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola wasn't able to rule out a potential exit. He said: "Dom is happy. He has come back in very good shape, is training very well and the relationship he has with his team-mates is very good.

"But the market is open. You cannot say he is going to stay or that he is going to leave because we don't know. In the end, it is something you cannot control."
