Frustration for Everton as Tottenham beat them to post-window signing

Everton have just seen one post-window transfer escape their grasp at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

The January transfer market is now wrapped up and Everton were only able to bring in one new player over the winter window.

Carlos Alcaraz signed for Everton in a late deal on deadline day as David Moyes was handed a fresh midfield option.

But there will be a feeling more could have been done.

The Friedkin Group wanted to sign two players at the very least, but Everton were hamstrung by their PSR concerns.

Although the summer may offer more hope on Merseyside, the Toffees have just been beaten to one extremely exciting young forward.

Tottenham beat Everton to Mason Melia signing

Everton and Tottenham were both targeting Tommy Watson last month with the Sunderland youngster looking set for a move away.

However, he was not the only young talent who the two clubs were battling for.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

According to BBC Sport, Everton also battled for the signing of the young Irishman Mason Melia, who has just joined Spurs.

Spurs announced the signing on Tuesday in a £1.6m deal with St Patrick’s Athletic, which could potentially double to £3.2m

Everton are claimed to have been in pole position to sign the 17-year-old striker for months.

A phone call from Ange Postecoglou helped convince him to make the move to north London.

Everton have loaned out Harrison Armstrong who is one of their brightest young talents on Merseyside.

But it seems as if there is still a focus on bringing in other young talents from other clubs.

Everton have missed out on a real star

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja both injured, the Everton frontline has been decimated to just Beto.

But there are some bigger issues with Everton’s attack given Calvert-Lewin’s future remains uncertain.

Despite Beto impressing Everton fans against Leicester City, there does not feel any real long-term plan in that position.

Melia could have been a player who Everton could have brought in for the future.

The youngster has really made a step up into men’s football over in Ireland where he has even played in the Europa Conference League Qualifiers.

Clearly, one for the future, but Everton have missed out on a renowned talent.

The chances of Everton signing Richarlison on loan from Tottenham before the deadline

Everton fans would dream of a potential return for Richarlison before the transfer deadline.

It has now been a number of years since the Brazilian made the £60m move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Richarlison has certainly endured his issues since making the move to north London with injuries hindering his game time.

However, he has finally made his return to the pitch and was even able to find the back of the net against Everton the other week.

With new owners at the helm, Everton fans have urged for a Richarlison return under the Friedkins.

And Alan Myers has now suggested what it would take to see him back on Merseyside before the deadline tonight.

Tottenham could approve Richarlison loan to Everton

Richarlison holds a great relationship with the Everton fans and that could be seen just the other week at Goodison.

The Brazilian striker applauded the home fans as his Spurs teammates apologised to a furious away end.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Hours out from the deadline, Myers has mooted what it would take to see Richarlison return with Tottenham nearing a blockbuster addition.

Spurs are set to secure Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel on loan until the end of the season, to which Myers discussed a possible loan for Richarlison.

‘Would mean Spurs agreeing, (Tel deal not done yet) could only see a loan if at all, and that would mean we have to lose either Broja or Harrison, a lot of work,’ he replied to a fan.

Richarlison also praised Everton fans earlier in the season after the defeat away to Tottenham in north London.

Clearly, this is an ambitious move which would require an awful lot to happen over the coming hours.

But let the fans dream for the remaining hours of the window.

Richarlison has shown fine form after injury return

Of course, this is a deal which would take a lot to go in their favour, but it could be a worthwhile one.

Richarlison has made a sensational return to the action following a serious injury which has seen him miss months of action.

Everton fans could have seen a goal against them coming a mile off, but the Brazilian looks really sharp after replacing Dominic Solanke.

And if Tel is to land at Spurs for the remainder of the season, perhaps Spurs could be open to a deal if Richarlison does not feel he is going to get enough minutes.

Everton are set to battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur for an exciting forward in the final hours of the window.

Ironically, Everton’s victory on Saturday saw the Toffees leapfrog Tottenham in the table.

Both sides are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements before Monday’s transfer deadline with injuries riddling their front lines.

Everton want to sign a new attacking player for David Moyes following the three injuries suffered to his strikers alone.

However, the Blues have had their struggles in the market with no deals officially over the line.

It now looks as if they are going to have battle the Europa League side, Tottenham, if they are to land one of their late targets.

Tottenham to battle Everton for Rayan Cherki

With attacking additions on the mind, Everton have shown interest in Rayan Cherki of Lyon alongside his teammate Ernest Nuamah.

Injuries have decimated Moyes’ options up front with this being perhaps the biggest area of need ahead of the deadline.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

But according to GiveMeSport, Everton are now set to face some serious competition for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Tottenham are now said to be eyeing Cherki after being recommended by their former director of football Fabio Paratici.

Lyon are said to be open to selling Cherki before Monday due to their financial struggles.

Cherki has an £18.6m release clause in his Lyon contract, which could prove a bargain move for such an exciting player.

The clock is ticking on Kevin Thelwell who really needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

What Kylian Mbappe once said about Rayan Cherki

After months of interest, Everton have missed out on Nuamah who is now set to remain at Lyon for the remainder of the campaign.

But all is not lost, with Everton potentially able to find an even more exciting player in Nuamah’s 21-year-old teammate.

It has been an ‘outrageous‘ season for Cherki who’s provided some encouraging returns for Lyon.

And that is not all, Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has already given his stamp of approval for the 21-year-old.

Replying to a post about Cherki’s talent at a young age, Mbappe said: “Don’t talk to him too much about age, huh.”

Striker has decided against joining Tottenham as Everton look to sign him

Everton remain in desperate need of a new striker before the end of the window.

Despite putting another three points on the board on Saturday, Everton’s celebrations will have been overshadowed by injury concerns.

As well as midfielder Orel Mangala, Moyes shared an update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hamstring injury.

Everton have had their struggles in finding the back of the net this season and their efforts haven’t been helped by injury issues.

The Friedkins are keen to sign a forward for Everton this month, but time is running out for the new owners to act in the market.

And the Toffees may have just been handed a boost in their pursuit of one player who is in high demand this month.

Everton target Evan Ferguson snubs Tottenham interest

There will be a number of players on the transfer shortlist on Merseyside with just over a week to go.

Everton are showing an interest in Evan Ferguson with the striker looking for a potential move away from Brighton & Hove Albion.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

It is not just Moyes’ side who are showing an interest, with The Telegraph claiming Ferguson has already snubbed a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The young striker is concerned his game time may not dramatically improve with a move to north London this month.

It is worth noting the Ireland international missed the game on the weekend with his own injury issue.

Ferguson would be open to a move to Everton this month if he is to leave Brighton.

But the Toffees are going to be up against it with West Ham also keen to sign Ferguson as they endure their own issues up top.

Ferguson could start for Everton under David Moyes

There is still a lot to figure out at Goodison Park with Everton weighing up Armando Broja’s future following his latest injury setback.

The injury to Calvert-Lewin has really stretched Moyes’ options up front with Beto now the only fit senior striker at the club.

And there is no certainty the Portuguese striker will remain at the club with Beto believed to be pushing for a move away before the end of the window.

The lack of fit options may have just opened up a great opportunity for Ferguson to land some regular first team football on Merseyside.

However, a potential loan move to Goodison would require the Friedkins to find a solution with Broja and the loan spot he is taking up.

Everton could now make a transfer move which banks Tottenham Hotspur millions

Everton are looking to recruit new players to help their efforts in fighting relegation this season, but one move could end up lining Tottenham Hotspur’s pockets in the process.

The Toffees have enjoyed something of a revival under David Moyes, with back-to-back wins over Spurs and Brighton in the last week.

Everton still need reinforcements if they are to stave off relegation, though, and there have been a number of targets mooted for the Merseyside club this month already.

Moyes wants to sign two players before the transfer window shuts on February 3, with attacking talent apparently high up on the wishlist.

If Everton do push ahead with a move for one target, Marcus Edwards, though, they will end up handing millions of pounds to Spurs, who sit just one point and one league position above the Toffees now.

Everton’s move for Marcus Edwards would line Tottenham’s pocket thanks to sell-on clause

Everton are thought to be keen on Edwards, who has recently been left out Sporting Lisbon’s matchday squad amid speculation over his future.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most productive talents in Portugal over the last couple of years, but it seems he is now ready for a return to his native England, where he began his career with Spurs.

Sporting confirmed there is a €60m release clause in Edwards’ contract, though the winger is likely to cost far less than that now, with his contract set to expire in 18 months. We know Sporting are happy to let the player leave this month, too.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

One thing to consider, though, is that Sporting may well look to offset a sell-on clause included in Edwards’ contract that sees Tottenham gain 35% of any transfer fee received for the player (as per Football.London).

It is now thought an offer of as little as £8.5m could get the deal done for Edwards, which would mean close to £3m heading straight to Tottenham’s pockets.

Marcus Edwards can take Everton to the next level and guarantee safety

He may not be in favour as much as he once was in Portugal, but Edwards is still a top quality player who can bring a new dimension to Everton’s game.

Edwards is a flair player who can make things happen out of nowhere, using his pace, skill, and creativity to produce moments of magic. A player like that could well be the difference between Everton staying in the Premier League or heading to the Championship.

What David Moyes was heard shouting at Jesper Lindstrom during Everton’s victory over Tottenham

Everton were able to pick up three valuable points on the weekend in their game against Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes will have been delighted to get up and running on Merseyside after being appointed just over a week ago.

However, he may feel slightly disappointed to have seen two late goals conceded as Everton opened the door for Spurs.

There were some much improved performances out there at Goodison with Dominic Calvert-Lewin impressing the Everton fans.

The striker was able to score his first goal since September, but he was not the only player to have shown improved form.

David Moyes heard shouting at Everton’s Jesper Lindstrom

Leon Osman praised Jesper Lindstrom for his display against Spurs after earning a start under the 60-year-old manager.

It was a decision from Moyes which certainly paid off with the Danish midfielder putting in a real shift.

And he was being provided some real direction from Moyes on the sideline throughout the game.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

In Sky Sports’ highlights of the game, Moyes can be heard shouting: “Go on, Jesper! Go on, Jesper!”

This was during the first half as the Scotsman was pushing for Lindstrom to press a Spurs midfielder before he eventually got the ball back and took aim.

Moyes was spotted talking privately with Lindstrom following his appointment, which some fans may have looked into.

And it already looks as if Moyes has been able to extract the best performance from the on-loan winger since he arrived in the summer.

Jesper Lindstrom showed why Everton should sign him

Moyes is planning on playing Lindstrom more frequently than he was played under Sean Dyche.

His display against the Lilywhites may have all but secured him his spot in the starting XI for the game against Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend.

Although Lindstrom did impress against Spurs, he still has a long way to go before he has earned the right to become an Everton player permanently.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin finally got his goal on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old opened the scoring on Merseyside as David Moyes’ side ran riot against the struggling Spurs.

Three points for the first time in 2025 has allowed Everton to open up a small gap on the relegation zone, with results elsewhere going in their favour.

Moyes is still looking for January signings at Everton, but the performance showed a lot of improvement under the 60-year-old.

And perhaps one of the biggest improvements was Calvert-Lewin who got on the scoresheet for the first time since September.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin shares three-word Everton message

The striker was perhaps the biggest winner on Sunday with Calvert-Lewin receiving criticism after the Aston Villa defeat.

Many put the defeat down to the Englishman as his wasteful finishing saw the opportunity at a point drift away.

However, he made up for it on Sunday and the took to Instagram to celebrate the victory.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

It has been a while since Calvert-Lewin has posted anything Everton-related on his Instagram account, but he shared an image of him celebrating from Sunday’s win.

And the caption very simply ready: ‘Up the Toffees’.

Everton fans were impressed with Calvert-Lewin against Spurs as they finally saw the striker hit some form again.

It has been a long time since the 28-year-old has looked that sharp and he’ll be hoping this is the kickstart to his season he has needed.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract latest at Everton

The striker is just one of the Everton players who finds himself set to run out of contract on Merseyside in the summer.

Calvert-Lewin has received interest from abroad this month, with the 28-year-old able to sign a pre-contract agreement.

And he has shown very little sign of putting pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison.

However, Everton remain optimistic of signing Calvert-Lewin to a new contract before the end of the season.

Everton fans may well see his post on social media as a potential positive step towards that as he finally shows his love for the club again after some really difficult months.

Morgan Gibbs-White brands Everton star ‘so good’ after 3-2 win over Tottenham

Everton picked up a huge win in the Premier League on Sunday – and one Toffees star has been coming in for all kinds of praise.

David Moyes got his first win on the board of his second stint in charge, after narrowly losing to Aston Villa in midweek.

But it was always asking a lot to get a result against Villa, with Moyes having barely had any time with the players.

But against Spurs, Everton were fantastic against a Spurs side there for the taking. After the game, Jake O’Brien said Moyes wants Everton to start having more possession, with the team only finishing with 35%. But fans will not mind one bit how much of the ball the team has, so long as Moyes gets points on the board.

Everton were just really effective when they had it, racing into a 3-0 lead at half-time and it was just a top team performance. In the end, Everton did concede a couple of goals to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, which will have disappointed Moyes.

But it was a fantastic result nonetheless, and another great day at the office for Iliman Ndiaye.

Everton players and Morgan Gibbs-White responds to Iliman Ndiaye’s Instagram post

After the game on Sunday, Ndiaye posted on Instagram to mark his latest goal for the club.

It was a well-worked goal by Everton, with Ndiaye playing a neat one-two with Idrissa Gueye in midfield before charging forward to the Spurs box.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Ndiaye left Archie Gray trailing in his wake, and then beat Radu Dragusin with a stepover before producing an emphatic finish.

Ndiaye said on Instagram: “We keep going like this team +3 points 💪🏽🔵”

A number of Everton players responded to the post:

There was also a show of acknowledgment from Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who played with Ndiaye at Sheffield United and therefore knows all about how talented he is.

Gibbs-White left a comment that many Evertonians will fully agree with: “So good 🤌🏽”

Ndiaye can drag Everton to safety

Quite possibly, Ndiaye could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Dyche leaving Everton and Moyes coming in.

He was already one of the standout players in a team that was really struggling.

But on Sunday he was fantastic and it’s clear he’s a player who can provide those moments of magic.

Jamie Carragher compared Ndiaye to Steven Pienaar during Sunday’s game and certainly, there are similarities between the two in terms of technical ability, positions played and working hard.

It is so vital that he stays fit between now and the end of the season.

Because as well as the centre-backs and Jordan Pickford, both he and also Dominic Calvert-Lewin could play huge roles in helping Everton move away from the relegation zone.

Leon Osman insists Everton star had his best performance yet vs Tottenham thanks to David Moyes tweak

David Moyes recorded his first win since returning to Everton for a second stint on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees eased some of the pressure with a big performance and win at Goodison Park.

Everton raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye both scoring before Archie Gray put into his own net.

Everton had chances to increase their lead in the second-half, but allowed Spurs back in.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison set up a nervy finish. But Everton held out for three big points.

It was a much-improved performance from Everton, although Moyes will be frustrated about the two goals conceded towards the end.

But it was a day full of positives, and for Jesper Lindstrom there has been plenty of praise.

Leon Osman praises Jesper Lindstrom after Everton’s win over Tottenham

It hasn’t been an easy start for Lindstrom at Everton.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

He joined the club in the summer on loan from Napoli, but under Sean Dyche he struggled to make the impact expected.

He’s still yet to open his account for Everton, who can sign the player permanently via a buy option this summer, but his performance against Spurs was very encouraging and Leon Osman made a big claim about the Dane on Match of the Day 2.

He said: “Jesper Lindstrom was asked to do a bit of a hybrid role. He was asked to be a right winger in possession and right wing-back out of possession

“I thought it was his best game. It allowed him to press, it allowed him to get on the ball. It allowed him to be a real part in what Everton did positively.”

Some fans felt Lindstrom was actually Everton’s best performer against Spurs, despite not scoring or assisting.

After the win, it was reported that Moyes wanted to give Lindstrom more game time, and many Everton fans will certainly hope to see that moving forward.

Lindstrom stats vs Tottenham

Lindstrom didn’t start regularly under Dyche, with Jack Harrison often preferred on that right side.

Fans had been vocal about Harrison starting so much, with many unable to understand why he was picked over Lindstrom.

Moyes did pick Harrison against Aston Villa, but decided to give Lindstrom a chance to shine against Spurs in a hybrid role – and he really did thrive.

As per Sofascore data, Lindstrom completed 19/21 (90%) passes, and also contested a whopping 21 duels (winning seven).

His nine defensive actions were only beaten by the two centre-halves James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, and that tally was more than any Spurs player.

It’ll be interesting to see if Moyes looks to get Lindstrom playing that role again. On the basis of Sunday, he would perhaps be foolish not to, as it could be the making of him.

Everton fans are urging the Friedkin Group to make £45m attacker David Moyes’ first signing

Everton are in need of reinforcements this window.

Despite Sunday’s victory against Tottenham Hotspur, David Moyes was quick to demand signings in his post-match press conference.

The Scotsman is well aware that the squad is lacking attacking quality and so he is looking at signing a winger this month.

Galatasaray’s Baris Alper Yilmaz has been linked to Goodison Park after his sensational start to the season in Turkey.

Meanwhile, Everton’s deal to sign Ernest Nuamah is now on hold, so there are a lot of moving parts going on at the moment.

Everton fans have their own ideas on who they should sign and have urged the Friedkin Group to sign a Premier League attacker.

Everton fans want Richarlison back

Everton fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) after the Spurs clash and urged the club to resign Richarlison, who netted on his return.

“Sad thing is Richarlison is exactly the player Moyes would love gives it absolutely everything every time he put the blue jersey on for us lives and breathes us. Would love us bring him back,” @jimmytheblue88 explained.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

“Richarlison wants to come back so badly la he’s crying out for a transfer back here him, bring him home,” @M1878D_ said.

@Nath_1878 posted: “Take another PSR hit to bring Richarlison home. Evident he wants to come back. Loved the club and I bet he was buzzing we won today.”

@JayMagee6 added: “Richarlison slapping his chest and pointing to the Gwladys as well I don’t care, bring him home.”

“I’ve never longed for a specific player to come back before, but Richarlison hasn’t really left. Come on, let’s sort this out,” @SeanC_PT said.

“I miss Richarlison. I want him back so much and I honestly believe he would jump at the chance to come back,” @TheEvertonFan1 commented.

Richarlison price tag will be problematic

Richarlison left Everton in a £60m deal in 2022, so quite clearly, bringing him back to Goodison Park will require substantial finances.

Of course, his value has reduced since then considering his Spurs career hasn’t gone according to plan, but a £45m price tag has still been mooted for Richarlison.

Given the position Everton are in, with PSR issues still looming, it’s unlikely the Friedkin’s can sanction that deal.

Spurs would likely have to reduce their asking price by £10-15m, which isn’t realistic given Daniel Levy’s reputation.

So a lot would have to give to resign Richarlison.
