Frustration for Everton as Tottenham beat them to post-window signing

Everton have just seen one post-window transfer escape their grasp at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
The January transfer market is now wrapped up and Everton were only able to bring in one new player over the winter window.
Carlos Alcaraz signed for Everton in a late deal on deadline day as David Moyes was handed a fresh midfield option.
But there will be a feeling more could have been done.
The Friedkin Group wanted to sign two players at the very least, but Everton were hamstrung by their PSR concerns.
Although the summer may offer more hope on Merseyside, the Toffees have just been beaten to one extremely exciting young forward.
Tottenham beat Everton to Mason Melia signing
Everton and Tottenham were both targeting Tommy Watson last month with the Sunderland youngster looking set for a move away.
However, he was not the only young talent who the two clubs were battling for.

According to BBC Sport, Everton also battled for the signing of the young Irishman Mason Melia, who has just joined Spurs.
Spurs announced the signing on Tuesday in a £1.6m deal with St Patrick’s Athletic, which could potentially double to £3.2m
Everton are claimed to have been in pole position to sign the 17-year-old striker for months.
A phone call from Ange Postecoglou helped convince him to make the move to north London.
Everton have loaned out Harrison Armstrong who is one of their brightest young talents on Merseyside.
But it seems as if there is still a focus on bringing in other young talents from other clubs.
Everton have missed out on a real star
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja both injured, the Everton frontline has been decimated to just Beto.
But there are some bigger issues with Everton’s attack given Calvert-Lewin’s future remains uncertain.
Despite Beto impressing Everton fans against Leicester City, there does not feel any real long-term plan in that position.
Melia could have been a player who Everton could have brought in for the future.
The youngster has really made a step up into men’s football over in Ireland where he has even played in the Europa Conference League Qualifiers.
Clearly, one for the future, but Everton have missed out on a renowned talent.
